 I hope it's not as bad as you expect.

The car needs a new engine. There's a hole blown in there now (my oldest DS, who has been apprenticing with our mechanic for almost a year, described for me what happened; basically it misfired, so a piston hit a valve cover and blew it open, I lost a bunch of oil, there was smoke.....it wasn't pretty..... :rolleyes1 ). The cheapest option is for us to buy a used engine, and then DH and DS will rent a lift and change it out themselves. To have the mechanic do the labor will cost as much as the engine!!! This engine just turned 200k miles, so if they can get something with around 150k, that'll buy me a few more years with this vehicle (I only do about 10k/year).

Ugh, just such rotten timing, right before the holidays!!!

Ouch! At least they can fix it without it costing too much. And from your description, it sounds just like when I blew the engine in the car I had in college. Scary stuff!

I feel your pain. My car is on it's last legs, and we're just keeping our fingers crossed that it will last into next year. I think my mechanic keeps it going on a wing and a prayer, and maybe a couple of bandaids! :rolleyes1

Put in the order for my new camera bag! And it was on sale to boot!:cool1:

I slept with my windows open last night. Oct. 14th...... In NH..... !!!! How crazy is that?! A week ago I was waking up to frost. Psycho weather we have up here.

At least my afternoons have been pleasant for riding my bike home from work!

.

Maybe we'll drive to Florida after the holidays... gas is coming down a little, and airfares just don't budge... It could either be a fun road trip with the 4 kids... or the worst experience of my life.... either way it will be memorable.... I don't know... sometimes I can't stand driving to the grocery store with the two boys... let alone 17 hours???

LM.. sorry about the car... we had our transmission go right around thanksgiving last year.. and I wasn't happy about it.. but,, the car needed to be fixed. it was too new to dump, and too old for warranty...

Woo hoo! :yay: What sort of camera do you use?
Sony A230 DSLR - old, but still takes some good photos when the photographer pays attention to what she's doing!

It's actually quite pleasant out right now, about 76. We're supposed to be having a cold snap, but I'm just not feeling it! :rotfl2:

17 hours in the car?:faint: (Sorry to hear about your car too!)

I should talk - we drove to Cape Cod last year to visit family, and that was almost 20 hours in the car, including pit stops. We did break it up into two days. It was only supposed to be about 17 hours, but thank you DC & Jersey turnpike construction it took longer! :scared:

Nice! My next purchase will be a DSLR. Not sure when that will be, but I'm ok with my standard digital for now. There are enough settings to get most of the shots I want.
