BA Seating help

Haven't flown BA for at least 10 years now. I opted not to pay for pre-chosen seats. We're going to get there regardless, although I do have preferences of where I would rather not sit.

Anyway, logged into my booking to prepay an extra bag on the return flight and when it was confirmed by email, it gave me an 'updated itinerary' reflecting the new baggage allowance and also showed seats 'confirmed'

While they are not where I would have chosen to sit, they are in a pretty good row so I'm not to worried if we can't change them at OLCI.

However, does the little 'confirmed' tick next to them mean that we can't change them if we find something we like more at OLCI?

I hadn't expected them to show pre assigned seats until 24 hours before departure so I'm a little confused as to whether this is normal.

I am also flying BA this October and it is my understanding that they will allocate you seats about 3 or 4 days before flying if you are with a child under the age of 12. They have perhaps done this slightly early. You are still able to change these at OLCI if you see better seats that you want.

I overlooked the under 12 notes. That makes sense then. I was aware of those with under 2's being able to select seats early but didn't realize they did that for those with under 12's

I didn't realize they did it so early

We may just do OLCI and keep the seats they have given us. It's a good row and they've put DD on the aisle which is good. With the early morning and long day before, followed by early morning of our departure, I am hoping we will both get some sleep so we'll hardly care where we are sitting. As long as I'm not near the toilets or stuck in the back of the plane, all is good

Yes, keep clear of those extra leg room seats since they are always near the toilets. On our flights a few weeks ago I felt so sorry for those people in the extra leg room seats. At one stage there must have been 10-15 people standing around in front of them. I would not have been happy especially if I'd paid extra to sit there!

Thank you for that. I'm a little apprehensive about flying with BA again as there was no love lost between us when I swore never again 10 years ago

Your comment about the extra legroom seats made me chuckle. It's so true and thankfully I learned from others' mistakes instead of making it myself. I have bought extra legroom before but ONLY if they can show me first where the seats are so I know they are not near the toilets.

A few years ago DD and I walked down the aisle to join the queue for the loo and there were folk eating their meal in the extra legroom seats right beside the cubicles with who knows how many people standing and leaning over them, some showing total disregard for them whatsoever. My DD, then about 7 or 8, asked "Are these the cheap seats?" Not much insight needed to figure they weren't worth the extra money
