So we are going to Universal and will have some days of no parks while we are there.

I was thinking of heading to the Kennedy space station because we all really find it interesting. I don't care that its an hour drive...I am excited to do something non park related. Have you been there? Is it best to by tickets online? Is there lunch places there or do I need to pack?

Also..I know people go to Cocoa beach. We would like a beach day...or half a beach day. But Im not fond of crowded beaches. I come from South jersey and I hate towel to towel. Is Cocoa busy like delaware beaches or nj beaches if you have been? To me outer banks isn't very crowded ...nice beach.. I don't want to drive to the gulf just because it's a little far.

Any other suggestions ?

Thank you sooooooo much!

Went to Kennedy Space Center as a teenager and I LOVED it. I was the oldest child in the group and my cousins were really excited to be there. A few months later, IMAX put out a movie of the Shuttle Launching. It was great to be able to say "I stood there..."

Of course, our family are NASA geeks. We have been Space Center Houston and Mission Control so many times. We visited the Neutral Buoyancy Lab. DS19 did Aviation Challenge at Space Camp. This past Christmas, DS3 received an orange NASA jumpsuit and wore it on our visit to Huntsville Rocket Center (Space Camp campus). He loved seeing the rockets and watching the stars.

One attraction I am looking forward to is Gatorland. It gets mixed reviews, but I loved visiting the alligator sanctuary in Louisiana.

DDiL-to be wants to swim with dolphins. It is a pricey excursion, but I think a boat ride out to see them in their own waters would be phenomenal.

Enjoy your trip!

Right by the space center is a beach called Jetty Park at Port Canaveral. It is much nicer and not nearly as crowded as cocoa. It costs $10 a car to get into the park for the day. You can also see the cruise ships from the beach. Have a great trip!

Any other suggestions ?

Gatorland

Aquatica

An airboat ride (we loved Wild Willy's)

Mini golfing (Congo River, Pirates Cove, Hawaiian Rumble, etc.)

The Outta Control Dinner Show

The Titanic Experience

Showcase of Citrus monster truck tour

Go-Karting

We very much enjoyed Cocoa Beach. Not crowded, free parking, lots of waves and sand, and Ron Jons was a fun stop to add on.

I am a big fan of Groupon and Livingsocial for low, low prices on offsite activities. Its worth a look before you go.

I love going to Kennedy and they still have lunch as far as I know. For beaches, we always went over to the Tampa side and did beaches on the Gulf. The air boats are fun and there is a lot of stuff to do on International Drive in Orlando if you like shopping.

Not sure when you are going, but, contact your local Congressman's office to request Kennedy Space Center tickets. They have an allotment and you can receive up to 4 free tickets. I believe Congress is on recess now but there should be someone in the office who can process your request.

I could very well be wrong, but I seem to recall reading somewhere on the Dis, that Congress is no longer accepting ticket requests for Kennedy Space Center. I think it became too popular!

Thanks, that's good to know. I know they were still giving them out last summer.

**tickets still offered but must be requested 6 months in advance before the allotment runs out.**

Gator land gets my vote. Or Busch Gardens.
Our family had free tix to KSC this past May and we were not that impressed. 25% amazing. 75% dated IN OUR OPINIONS. YMMV. But Gatorland is a good time.

I'll second (or fourth/fifth?) Gatorland. It's a "half-day" attraction and priced accordingly, but if you like to take it easy and look around you could definitely spend the better part of the day there (we did in 2011).
