Well, if I wasn't eternally devoted to the folks at Disney before, I am now singing their praises.

For those who are interested, an update on the surprise-the-wonderful-parents trip: I made reservations! Yes, really, I made a decision in a timely fashion. I have decided on four nights at the Polynesian (nostalgia) followed by five at the Beach Club (Mom loves it). I appreciate everyone's thoughts on switching hotels, but it came down to the fact that I'd always kinda wonder if I could have managed both if we didn't do it.

I spent a lot of time talking to the reservations folks trying to figure out the two rooms vs. suites and other details. (For the record, decided on two conceierge rooms at both resorts.) The girl I dealt with was awesome. Then came the tricky part -- I had to explain the details because I'm moving. I graduate in May but do not have my new address for the new appartment that will accomodate the new job, so I need all communications to go to my permanent address (my parent's house) and I don't want anything even remotely like a bill to get near my Dad. So, poor Disney girl has to listen to me explain the whole story.

She tells me to hold on. Suddenly I have a new voice, and the reservations people are helping me plan my surprise. I couldn't believe it - we're talking about special gifts and flowers and my head is spinning. Then, before I really know what's going on, I'm talking to people at the Polynesian.

The long and the short of it is that I will have a letter addressed to my dad to hand over on the day I graduate in May. It will go something like this:

Dear Mike,

It has come to my attention that you have missed your annual Disney cap purchase. According to our records, you have not purchased a hat at the Settlement Trading Post in Fort Wilderness since 2001. I feel strongly that this hat must be in need of replacement.

After discussing the problem with your children, the following has been decided. {Insert itinerary.} Both resorts have excellent gift shops, and I am certain you will find a hat to your liking.

Enjoy the graduation, and please give my best to Ann and the kids. I look forward to seeing you in March. Make sure you stop by the house when you get here; you know where it is.

See you real soon,
Mickey

They actually stayed on the phone and drafted the letter with me! I had no idea how to pull off the surprise, but Disney even took care of that. I've just finished writing letters to the appropriate people about the excellent service -- I wish I could do more.

I can't tell you how thrilled I am. It's times like this that I really pity non-Disney people. They don't know what they're missing.

And ya know, that seems to be the rule, not the exception with Disney. I know every so often there is a post regarding a less than accomodating CM, or just a problematic DW visit, but those are the the exception. While I haven't been to DW as often as some of you, (7 going on 8), not only have I never had any issues or problems, every encounter with CM's has been nothing less than pleasant, but more often than not, just fantastic. Allygirl, you're gonna have a blast.

That is a terrific story, and you are a wonderful daughter for arranging the trip. :earsboy:
