I was wondering if there were any Avon reps or former reps on here that could give me an idea as to how lucrative it would be to get into this. I know that obviously it is based largely on how big your clientele is, but what else factors into this? I am really looking to find something I can do from home, but that will put some extra money in the bank. TIA

Today's markets make these businesses difficult to earn bankable money in. I have done Avon, Tupperware ( I was a van driving 70K earning manager for five years), but it is different now than it was 10 years ago. With Avon I never made much , maybe $30 here or there. Tupperware was big and sold well and I was great at recruiting new reps. I loved it when I did it, I earned well, but those who remained in it found corporate changes they didn't like and lowered income when online shopping really took off. I would think that the internet has brought these businesses down a bit, but if you are willing to really push the product you would certainly earn something. I wouldn't count on earning the kind of money I once did if I reentered the Tupperware game, but for me--I had a problem pregnancy and to keep the baby I lost everything--I was put on bedrest and had to start from ground zero again after my DD was born. It was too much for me to know what I always used to get and have to start over from square one again. I was not in a good place with the whole standard commission when I was used to much much more.
You rarely find anyone at home now a days to do the "cold call selling" to , most people do not want to have people over when they have free time and most guests would rather not be there. Shipping and handling prices are crazy and for those prices customers would rather just shop the internet. If you have a lot of friends that are buying the products then maybe you can manage, but you have to hope for sales every two weeks from each customer to turn a profit from Avon.

I would also like to point out that you really have to have some "salesman" in you. By that I mean that you have to be able to push folks a little here and there and be outgoing enough to approach people to sell.

I just don't have the personality for it. I tried Avon and distributed about 50 books in my neighborhood and got one phone call. Not my cup of tea.

I do better "finding" money...through market research studies, survey's, couponing, mystery shopping etc. Plus there are no upfront costs in these.

Also, I think Avon has a certain demographic. I don't want to open a can of worms here. I live in a fairly nice neighborhood and love Avon but most of my neighbors don't. They would rather pay high prices and buy Este Lauder or Clinique and get the "bonus."

I was an Avon Presidents Club member (very high sales) and only made about $1000 in the year....well, after figuring my time and gas, I lost money.

Avon is great for someone who wants products at a discount (new products are 50% off), but to MAKE money...this economy is not a salesperson's economy, unfortunately.

We used to ALWAYS buy Avon through a good friend of my Mom, but now it's just easier to get it online. Once you make an initial purchase with Avon online, they email you free shipping codes all of the time (usually with only a $10 or $15 minimum ordedr). Plus, I get MyPoints when I purchase online.

I don't think Avon Ladies are what they used to be when I was younger.

My MIL did quite well with Avon about 10 years ago. She was an LPN at a nursing home, and many of the other nurses bought from her, as did many friends. Once she stopped selling, I stopped buying. If you work somewhere already where people would buy, and it's not against policy, I think you could make some money. I think online sales have hurt the individual sellers.

I am currently an Avon rep.. I mainly got into it for the discount and to make a few dollars here and there..

I dont do great but I do ok.. most of my customers are actually coworkers, so I dont know how I would ever have been able to do this if I wasnt working.. I have gotten one other customer by handing out books in my neighborhood, but again all other customers are coworkers, family or friends..
