Avoiding extra adult charge

We don't connect a credit card to the room or charge with magic bands. I'm mainly just trying to come up with comfortable sleeping arrangements for everyone and figure out if we can go for a moderate or if we have to stick with value suites. I would prefer real beds since we have some older adults and people with back issues in our party but don't want to pay an arm and a leg.

Disney does not allow a room to not have an adult in it. So if the teenagers are all under 18 they cannot sleep in a room without an adult.

If you try it and are found out, Disney is well within it's rights to tell you to leave and not refund your money.

What is the makeup of your party? Maybe we can come up with a suggestion on where to stay comfortably that still follows the rules.
My kids are now 31, 29, & 21 when they were 16, 14 and 6 I booked 2 rooms, one for me and 6 yr old and other room for 16 & 14...since I was the only adult pretty sure Disney knew their room was adult free. Anyone under 18 can't rent a room on their own but never heard of a rule where an adult has to stay in the room.

I should clarify a bit. As long as they connect, everything is fine. It is when you have 2 rooms that don't connect that there is an issue. If rooms don't connect than an adult must sleep in each room. Also if there is more than one adult on the trip they will insist an adult be listed on each room.

How many adults and almost adults will be on the trip? Do you have enough people splitting the bill that a Tree House would work?

We're all going next week, oldest and her family in 1 room, middle and youngest are sharing a room...I get my room all to myself..HEAVEN!! Oh and when I made reservation I put nearby not connecting....no "we're going to leave the connecting doors open listen for the grandkids, we'll be back soon" lol

You will not be able to use magic bands to open the doors, but you can get room keys from the front desk to get into each other's rooms. My SIL and I had to do that last month because our request for connecting rooms was not granted. We were given rooms right next to each other. I went to the front desk and the gave me a RFID room key with her name on it.

Right, your MB's won't work for the doors if your sleeping arrangements are different than who is on the reservations, but getting room keys will solve your issue. We had friends that just went to Disney with 3 teens and 1 tween, plus the parents. They changed sleeping arrangements each night depending on who was staying out late at parks versus who opted to go to bed. They had 2 rooms not connecting, but nearby.

When my sister and I were teenagers and under 18 my parents had two rooms so we could have separate beds and there was no problem. If they let cheerleader groups do it there is no way they can't let other people do it.

They didn't insist or make us when we had two rooms that weren't connecting when my sister and I were both under 18. We were listed on one room and my parents on the other and we never had a problem and they never asked or said one thing about it when we checked in and we were listed with our correct ages.

Do what you want to do - you have ZERO chance that you will be thrown out of a WDW resort for having your teens sleep in one room and adults in another. ZERO. Most of our friends travel to WDW this way and have for decades - often without connecting rooms. Disney does not care.

Yes they can. They can do whatever they want, as Disney sets the rules

Are you positive you were listed on separate reservations and not on one reservation with 2 rooms?

Also, we all know that the cheerleader groups have a different relationship with the Disney corporation that regular guests. Of course Disney can allow them to do things they don't allow other guests to do. Why couldn't they? Their parks and resorts, their rules.

If someone isn't sure, they should call and ask. I'm positive you will be told an adult has to be in each room if they don't connect. I'm also positive people sometimes get away with not doing so, but I don't think that is a great way to live life--doing what can be gotten away with instead of what is right.

I am not going to call and ask because it doesn't apply to me anymore as my kids grew up. But I did ask at one point when I had multiple kids under 18 with me and couldn't fit in one room. The 17 year old college student called to make the reservation and couldn't do so because of her age. So I had to call and book 2 rooms. Was told there has to be an adult in each party- not each room. And they did not give us connecting rooms. I don't think anyone is trying to break any Disney rules or cheat Disney in any way here. Why are people acting like the OP is a criminal ? Disney doesn't tell big families they can't stay on property just because the number of kids exceed the max room occupancy. They don't prevent single parents from traveling with all their kids. LOL. Can you imagine the uproar if a single parent with 5 big kids was told they couldn't book 2 rooms at Disney and had to stay at a different hotel?

Where did the OP indicate the minors outnumber the adults:confused3 ? All I see is a thread indicating they want to avoid the completely legitimate and industry norm additional adult charge.

As for any presumed uproar, well, Disney offers units that accommodate up to twelve people. The rates may not be what guests prefer to pay, but the options exist.

100% sure my sisters name was on the room cards since she was older then me. Also no Disney cannot make different rules for different people. I don't understand how you think they can that would set them up for a lawsuit since it would be making one group pay more and follow different rules then another group.

You are right, they aren't talking about kids outnumbering adults. I guess what I was pointing out is that Disney doesn't care if you have kids from a party in one room, and the adults in the family in a different and non-connecting room. Given that... I really don't interpret renting a room with the adults spread out over the number of rooms so there aren't extra adult charges as being a cheat on the system. Maybe it is because I travel with a bunch of "adult" kids... but isn't the OP talking about renting the correct number of rooms and saving money by having an adult assigned to room A, trade places with a teenager from room B, so the adults are together and the teens are together.

It isn't like they are cramming 5 adults into one room but only paying for 2 adults. Or having so many kids on air mattresses that the max occupancy is exceeded. For example... an extended family of 5 with 2 parents, their 18 year old child that is an adult, and a couple of 16 year old cousins. There is absolutely nothing wrong with booking 2 adults in one room and 1 adult and two kids in the other room. Then if the 18 year old actually sleeps in their parents' room instead of with the 16 year old cousins... that is cheating Disney somehow? Because they didn't pay the 15 bucks for the extra person? Come on, we aren't talking about cramming 12 people into one or 2 Value Resort rooms- of course that would be cheating. But just because there are units for 12 doesn't mean that an extended family has to stay in one instead of 2 or 3 value resort rooms.

Of course they can have different rules for different groups, provided they are not protected classes. They do it all the time- annual passholder discounts, DVc members allowed five in some rooms that if you paid cash for only allow four, negotiated rates and rules with corporate and other groups.

Umm, because they are trying to cheat Disney by avoiding the additional adult fee? That was the whole point, right? It really is no different that having extra guests, the purpose is to save money by cheating Disney.

Again, all someone who truly wants to know what the rules are, not what they could get away with doing, is call Disney or e-mail them.

Again, if someone wants to know what the rules are, not what they can get away with or possibly do if Disney is unaware, all they need to do is call and ask. Or even send off an e-mail.

It is so disappointing when someone posts a question and gets treated like a cheat. As long as the number of adults does not exceed two per room, the reservations are connected, an adult is listed on each room....Disney does not care where the family sleeps. They will provide room key cards when requested.

It is also really sad that all groups of kids on trips get a bad reputation. I have chaperoned 8 trips to Disney for my high school students. We have stayed at the Coronado and POFQ. My students are exceptionally behaved. They are polite and follow all rules or they know I will send them home. Eight trips and no problems what so ever. Yet on some of those trips adults attending conventions at our hotel have been horribly behaved, loud, and obnoxious.

When I travel with my students we put 3-4 teenagers in a room and each adult has two rooms we are responsible for supervising.

Just to be facetious:bitelip: According to Disney, my 10 year old DD is an adult. I know because I had to pay the adult rate for her AP. I have to pay an adult rate at Character meals for her etc.
In all fairness, I'm sure you paid the adult rate for your 5 year old too...since AP's no longer have a child priced ticket....I know we did for our 8 year old... :/
