We are considering taking a larger extended family trip to Disney this fall. My question is does it matter who sleeps in which room as far as the extra adult charges? Can we spread the adults out over the rooms and actually let the teenagers sleep in one room, etc to avoid all these extra adult charges? Is this against Disney's rules per se if we don't exceed occupancy in any of the rooms?

I think you will have issues with your MBs. As an example...the two adults assigned to a room, but sleeping in another room...their MBs will not open the room they are actually staying in. Same for the two teens not actually sleeping in the room they are assigned to. If you just trade MBs, then you potentially have credit cards tied to MBs that you aren't actually wearing. Making sense? At least I think this will be an issue.

Disney does not allow a room to not have an adult in it. So if the teenagers are all under 18 they cannot sleep in a room without an adult.

If you try it and are found out, Disney is well within it's rights to tell you to leave and not refund your money.

What is the makeup of your party? Maybe we can come up with a suggestion on where to stay comfortably that still follows the rules.

.

The large Cheerleader/ Pop Warner/ School Band groups DEFINITELY do not have an adult per room. Most chaperoned trips the adult stays in a room alone.

The tour groups are a different thing entirely. They have their own agreements with Disney. The rules for regular guests are different.

You will not be able to use magic bands to open the doors, but you can get room keys from the front desk to get into each other's rooms. My SIL and I had to do that last month because our request for connecting rooms was not granted. We were given rooms right next to each other. I went to the front desk and the gave me a RFID room key with her name on it.

Yup- we had a family group too, since we all needed access to both rooms whenever, and not sure of who would be with whom or when, we asked for an extra key card for the rooms in adition to MB's to allow access easily. To Op, if you are within the limits, they don't care who sleeps where as long as you all have your other details correct, like Mb and ticket stuff etc you are fine. Just be aware that they require the person named on res for checkin, etc.

That just does not make any sense. What is the difference?
I wanna know the answer to that one too! Makes no sense to me.

So four 17 year olds wouldnt be allowed to sleep in one room but the cheerleading group can? How would disney know who is sleeping in which room? Mousekeeping would snoop their luggage looking for ID? How would they know? Its just silly. I think i'd be pretty comfortable taking my chances. But thats just me.

Do those cheerleading and band groups actually stay onsite? When I was in band (2000), we stayed offsite because it was much cheaper and bussed in.

Yes they do, mostly at the values. You'll find lots of threads of people trying to avoid them.

All it would take would be for housekeeping to notice. Or one complaint about unsupervized kids.

Also with a large group there is no guarantee the rooms would even be near each other.

Unsupervised kids? theyre not small kids. Theyre teenagers. Anything is possible, but I highly doubt they'll have issues.

At least with a family group a parent is on the property if there is an issue. With these other groups all they usually have is 1 adult chaperon with 12 or so kids. And people complain all the time about unsupervised groups of cheerleaders etc. Disney does absolutely nothing ...but invite the groups back next year.

Exactly! 1 adult to 12 kids is a huge problem! Yet disney does nothing. Why? Because of $$$! How is it ok to have only 1 adult for 12 kids, yet for a family of teens to stay in the same room its wrong?

Unless you are with a youth group, and special arrangements have been made for them, you cannot book reservations without having at least one adult age 18 or over registered in EACH room.

It's not that they wouldn't be allowed to sleep in different rooms. It's that the My Magic Plus system makes it more difficult for a guest to get access to a room in which he or she is not registered. One's magic band will work only on their registered room. (Has anyone tried asking at the desk for access to multiple rooms? If they will give you cards for the other rooms, then you are home free.)

A 10 year old is an "adult" for park tickets (at any rate there are no longer children's prices for annual passes; they all cost the same now) and dining, but not for resorts. For the purpose of booking resorts, a child is age 3-17.

Just to be facetious:bitelip: According to Disney, my 10 year old DD is an adult. I know because I had to pay the adult rate for her AP. I have to pay an adult rate at Character meals for her etc.
I know, it's ridiculous isn't it!!! :sad2:

I may agree with you. But what you and I think is not what matters. Disney sets the rules. Not us. If someone doesn't like them, they are free to stay elsewhere. They are not free to make their own rules. It never fails to amaze me the number of adults who seem to think it is ok to do so.

If someone is so sure it isn't a big deal, call and ask. But I'm betting no one will, because they already know the answer. Disney requires and adult sleeps in each room. That is their rule for us regular guests.

I'm sort of surprised this thread is still open, as it is against the rules of the Dis to discuss ways around Disney's rules.
