Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could speak to how long the battery of a laptop should last. I bought an Averatec C3500 about a year ago and the battery will not fully charge any more. The warrenty on it was for only 6 months. I just ordered a new one but since this is the first laptop that I have ever owned I wanted to get others experiance.

So does Averatec make a lousy battery or is this the norm for laptops.

A year doesn't seem long, but I just read something recently (maybe before buying my new Dell) that said how many chargings a battery should last for and it wasn't nearly as many as I thought it would be. I tend to unplug my laptop from the power source often and run it on the battery. I've stopped doing that as much with my new computer, hoping that the battery will last longer. But of course the point of a laptop (especially with Wi-Fi) is to be able to run it in various places off the battery.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered a new battery and for the time being I am just keeping it pluged in.

Anyone else have any opinions on how long a laptop battery should last?

Keeping it plugged in, with the battery being constantly charged, may reduce the life of the battery.

Thanks Dan. I did not know this. The battery life it not that long, about 3hrs when fully charged, so I figured I was doing the right thing by keeping it pluged in when I was at home.

According to what I read before buying my computer, it's more the unplugging and plugging back in that shortens the life of the battery. I suppose that the battery could be removed if it's going to be plugged to electricity all the time--wonder if that would increase the life of the battery.
