Avatar-Pandora demand

There wasn't a clamoring for a Harry Potter land, either. That worked out fine.

I think there was genuine excitement for it when it was being built. People wanted certain things in the land and wanted to see it because of their love of the franchise.

While there might be excitement for the avatar land and people want to see what they can do with it, not a lot of discussion about characters or love of the movie that is a draw. I am interested to see what they can do with it but not so sure I care about the movie aspect of what or who is in it.

Totally agree with those citing Cars. I HATE Cars and did not even bother to see the sequel. But what i've seen of Cars Land thrills me and I can't wait to go to DL.

I don't care about Avatar, but I am excited to see how amazing the land can be.

It's new. It will be unique. It's part of making Animal Kingdom, a park I really enjoy, an even better one. Frankly, I'm looking forward to it more than I am Star Wars and Toy Story at HS.

This!! DHS has always been at best a half-day park for me, and their new lands make it a NO DAY park for me now.

DAK, on the other hand, has been AT LEAST a full day park for me and now will likely be a two-day once Pandora is open.

Cars is my least favorite Pixar movie.

Cars Land... is amazing.

Edit: removed probably, it is my least favorite.
In 2013 my 1 year old son wouldn't eat. We took him to a speech therapist who told us to put him in front of the TV during meal times as a distraction. It worked. So twice per day (3 times on weekends) we fed him for an hour while he watched The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.

About 8 months into this we watched Cars on Dis jr and he loved it. So we bought the DVD and watched Cars 2 or 3 times per day during mealtime.

If you want to appreciate Cars I recommend watching Pooh 16 times per week for 8 months. When you finally put on Cars you will think it's the greatest movie since Titanic! I know I did.

I think they were better off just expanding Animal Kingdom and not calling it avatar land. The fact that it is based on Avatar will probably have very little appeal. But the expansion itself should be nice.

This. I'm sorry the movie did absolutely nothing for me. Saw it once, thought it was Ferngully but more for adults. No desire to see it again, not a fan. But I'm all for expanding AK! Trying to keep an open mind here.

Pandora brings a bunch of things together:
Somebody certainly watched the movie based on the box office numbers.
It won 3 oscars as well as a lot of other global awards
It has a huge overseas pull.
Allows Disney to highlight conservation
and gives them a place to do something extremely creative/imaginative in a place that on this board has been compared to a local zoo. (I dont agree but it has been characterized that way more than once here).
And it has the direct support and input of a legendary director who while may not have a home run with every movie, has a got a golden touch for movie making and in turn making money.
If James Cameron pulls off Avatar 2 you will see that land in AK with people clamoring to get in.

Oh and Zoe Saldana of blue chick guardian of the Galaxy fame is another actor that people should recognize. (type casting much)?

Say what? Potter fans were begging JKR for a Potter park or a Potter store or a Potter anything for them to go to for many years prior to her even considering it. It was one of the main reasons she OK'd the traveling exhibit when she was originally leery of even that. When the exhibit drew massive crowds time after time and more and more conventions and fan created events started happening she began to consider the theme park aspect more. There was a whole lot of clamoring for Potter.

If I remember correctly I belive there was rumours at the time tha Universal was going to get the Avatar license for an Avatar land. So maybe Disney knowing it needed to expand Animal Kingdom figured they could kill two birds with one stone and that's why they decided on Avatar. However, idc what movie franchise it is. It depends on the overall theming and the quality of attractions. No one thinKS of song of the South on splash, or even snow white on 7DMT. The average non hardcore disney fab could care less. They just want a fun ride

Ummm, no. Revisionist history happening here. There was no one screaming for a Harry Potter ride or park until after the discussions were announced. Then everyone began looking forward to it.

I could see WDW rebranding it sometime in the future. In many ways, I feel like Avatar-land will have more staying power than the movie and will probably be more innovative.

Sorry but I have to ask are you in the Potter fandom? I'm not talking about here on the DisBoards, I'm talking about in the worldwide Potter fandom. There was major want for a park or Potter "place" in the Potter fandom. Fans were actually creating their own in a way with the conventions and the like. If you read back on any JKR media from the park announcement she talks about the fans begging her for something like this for so many years. If you think the Potter theme park idea was not something the Potter fandom wanted and were excited about for years before the announcement, you are wrong on that. I'm talking within the Potter fandom, not the theme park fandom.

I don't care about the theme just make something amazing that has rides instead of shops bathrooms and restaurants.

Gamora (Zoe) is actually green in GotG. ;) The "blue chick" was Nebula played by Karen Gillan (Doctor Who). Between those and Star Trek though Zoe is a go-to for sci-fi roles it seems.

I really wish Disney would've gotten the right to do a Harry Potter land.

There was a huge demand for a Harry Potter park. Idk how anyone can say there wasnt. Way more so than Avatar, Toy Story, and even Star Wars. I'm excited for all the new Disney editions coming, but Harry Potter is the bees knees

From the first moment fans saw the amazing Hogwatrts on screen or the Boy Wizard rode a runaway mine cart deep into Gringotts bank, fans have been clamoring for a Potter park ride, anything. . . . I haven't yet been, but by all accounts, Uni really delivered! (But that doesn't mean an attraction has to be built on a movie franchise to be awesome)

Well, don't hold your breath on that....Actually, has there been any talk of new restaurants? Or is it still too early for that?

We haven't heard about any Avatar restaurants. There's bound to be something. They could serve those six-legged bull/bison things or a glow-in-the-dark salad.

LOL, thank you for saying this.

No one wanted a HP land--HAH! In your dreams. I've been a Potterhead for many moons and the Potter fandom had been SCREEEEEECHING for a park before there was ever an official announcement or an inkling of a park arrival. PP is clearly not in the fandom because they wouldn't have said that no one wanted it; that's literally absurd.
