It's one thing to build a single attraction. It's another to build an entire land based on something the average person knows or cares little about.
Thats just it you have no idea the size or scope of this project. Let it ply out then complain lol
Are they Avatar fans? Do they have any Avatar merchandise? The reason that I ask is that you rarely see anything Avatar in stores. Disney is all about merchandising. I just haven't seen anything that suggest that Avatar has lasting appeal to kids. Maybe the sequals will change that?
Of course they would know
Two movies this past year alone compared themselves to avatar....the croods and life of pi
Why would movies want to associate themselves to this movie
Do you really doubt Disney's ability to merchandise the life out of anything they get their hands on?![]()
The point isn't whether or not Avatar was a good movie. 2 of the 3 Star Wars prequels are generally loathed. The point is, does the story and do the characters have a place that will last in pop culture. Star Wars does. Avatar doesn't. You can go to any retail store and find some sort of toys or other merchandise associated with Star Wars and Harry Potter. Can the same be said for Avatar?
98% of the people who go to the parks are not going to say "hey the e ticket was great the themeing is incredible but the cultural relevance is not there"
Wheres the cultural relevance for mysterious island at disney sea? Or is it just a cool land
People are judging before they ve seen any model or concept art
I haven't seen either of those.
Movies don't compare themselves to other movies. Critics compare movies to other movies. I've also heard Avatar compared to the Smurfs.

I never said I hated Avatar. In fact, I stated that I liked the movie. Not sure why people insist on saying things that aren't true.
As to whether or not Avatar will stand the test of time, I think the answer is already No. I'm not a huge Star Wars or Harry Potter fan, but there's no denying the impact it's had on pop culture. We're talking films, books, toys that have been around for, in some cases, close to 40 years. We're talking about franchises that have conventions all over the place. We're talking about movies that are on TV constantly. Avatar was a huge hit, but that doesn't translate into pop culture phenomenon. Since it's release on DVD and Blu-ray, I haven't seen a single piece of merchandise in a store for it. People weren't lining up outside stores the night before it came out on DVD to buy a copy.
What defenders are saying is sort of my point. "We'll have to wait and see." Really? Disney is gambling with something of this size with a "Let's wait and see" attitude?
If I were a Disney shareholder I'd be begging for them to rethink this idea. Again, 1 attraction based on a movie is one thing. If interest wanes, the ride can always be rethemed. Building an entire area based on something as uncertain as Avatar is, in my opinion, a HUGE risk, one that doesn't seem to make a great deal of sense.

also set the all time high ratings on fx for its premiere
i agree on merchandising
It was. It has since been passed by The Dark Knight.
The highest rating ever for FX belongs to my username.
If we're going to use pop culture popularity Disney should be building a land based on Twilight.

....twilight is about vampires not sure you want that in a theme park setting...greatest movie franchise ever is the godfather but probably not a good idea to have that either
