DH and I are leaving for vacation two weeks from today. I'm thinking about getting one of those automatic cat feeders that I can put wet food in. Usually we just leave plenty of dry food and water out for them in bowls but they're used to having canned food twice a day when we're home. Has anyone had any luck in finding a good auto feeder? I'd really like to leave them wet food in the auto feeder and dry food in bowls.

I've never heard of a wet food dispenser. I'd think the food would go bad.

Wouldn't it be better to pay a responsible, reliable teen/parent combo to stop by, give the cats some personalized attention and give them their food then? :confused3

I'm not familiar with the automatic cat feeder so they might have something to prevent this but wouldn't the wet food turn bad if left in there for the cats to eat for a long period of time?

I don't know if the food would go bad. I mean the ones that I've seen are for dry and wet food. My DH was wondering the same thing about how the food is kept fresh in there. I wasn't sure if it was something to invest in or not. I did buy one of those things that has the big water bottle that sits on top of the bowl and the water flows into it. I just got that so I'm just waiting to see how that works out but I'm still stuck when it comes to the food.

Rhonda, if I lived closer I'd kitty-sit for ya. How long are you going to be gone for. If it's just a day or two they should be fine with just a couple of big bowls of dry food and water. Fill the bathroom sinks with water just for an extra supply incase the bowls get tipped.

We used them for DRY food and water and they work great! But wet food, no way, it would be hard and nasty after a day. I wouldn't even try it.

I had a petmate auto cat food for wet food. It had two dials & once they reached the time you set the top would pop up. It had room for an ice pak & sealed so food was kept fresh. However the top doesn't pop open if your cats FLIP IT OVER and shake the darn thing trying to get food out. it had a setting for anytime 0 hrs to 48 hrs. I have one of those dry food feeders, I usually fill it up & a big bowl of water. If its more than 3 days I hire a local pet sitter that charges $5 a day to come in check on the cats & scoop the litter box.

That's what I said too! I just reloated from NY to TX. In NY I couldn't find anyone under $20 per pet! When I first called & he told me $5 a day I was floored.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if the feeders that said they can hold wet food were any good or not. I'll probably end up getting someone to feed those cute little fur balls while we're gone.

We hire our neighbors son to come in and feed and scoop the litter when we are away. Thats a good alternative to a pet service, if you have a neighbor with kids. I pay about $5.00-$7.00 per day depending on how long we are gone for.
