autograph book & pen questions

i'm trying to get ready for our jan. trip...i bought a disney note pad filled w/ thin, white paper & i have a fat, Disney ball-point pen. can this work as an autograph book & pen OR do i need thicker paper & a sharpie marker? if i should buy a Disney autograph book, can i get one at POP or do i have to wait until i go to the parks - are there any sold in local stores, i.e. Walmart? thanks.

You can use what you bought or wait till you get there and buy an official Disney autograph book. Its totally up to you.

We bought ours in the hotel gift shop and bought a big Disney pen for the charactors to us. Its easier for them with the costumes and all. Buzz & Wood have stamps they use for autographs as their hands are huge and plastic.

Its all a matter of preference.

Stay away from Sharpies. The characters dont like to use them since they can stain the costumes! Plus with paper, the ink will run through to other sheets. If they will be singing fabric items, then thats about the best thing to use.

I looked for disney autograph books elsewhere while I was home and decided to go with our cheap memory starter set at Michaels. It was like $3.99 I think with around 10 pages, plus, you could buy additional refills. Go with what you want to. We used sheets of 6X6 cardstock to put right into memory book sleeves after they were signed. I've got DS's picture on the page facing. So, its a photo album mostly with the autographs. There were kids with lined spiral books (thin pages) and the official books. The characters seemed to do best with big pens, but we used regular ball points on one day (misplaced a slightly thicker pen) and it worked out fine too.

The fun thing about our book (which you could do with your Disney note pad) is son and decorated the book cover together. It was a fun project and he treasures his book.

I'm not sure what you've been told about autograph getting, but we were told by several good friends in advance to forgo the whole thing becuase the lines can be horrible and they spent their whole days at the parks standing in line for autographs. So, our gameplan, which worked out GREAT was if the line was about 10 minutes, we'd wait, if not, we wouldn't. We got in to see Mickey at the fair immediately, for example. The line to see Minney at Camp Mickey Minney was HORRIBLE, but we got her's at Chef Mickey's. Also, the line for Jessie and Woody looked about an hour long....good ones for next time.

DS LOVED meeting the characters, but he didn't feel that he missed out if he didn't get some. We figure in a few years when we go back again, we'll get the ones we missed.

i have 2 character meals planned...chef mickey's for dinner & crystal palace for lunch. can i then plan to get autographs during those meals? if so, i'll skip the line for mickey in toon town. right?

We like the autograph books that you can get at Eckerd's or Walgreens near Disney World. They are made like a spiral notebook, so you can just fold them open to the page you want, and hand it to the character. We prefer these over the official Disney ones, that are bound like a book (can't fold them back).

With the pen, we love buying the fat pen that writes the four different colors (we found one somewhere that has pastel colors, but you can find the regular 4 color pens anywhere). That way, DD can choose what color the character uses (blue for Cinderella, pink for Aurora, etc).

YES YES YES . . . you will do GREAT at the character meals!! It helped with our dd, she was ok with not standing in line once she got her "must have" of Princess Aurora!! (from the breakfast at Norway!)

DD found a pen she had to have - it was a flashing light pen, it turned out to help with interaction with the characters, they saw it was different and mimed some fun things for DD, and I was nervous as I had read that the pen they sell with the books are more helpful for the characters, but it didnt seem to be a problem for us.

(and at a late night dd did not want to stand in line, but I did - lol)

i think i found what i'm looking for now...thanks to all of your suggestions. i liked the idea of a spiral bound notebook style & i really wanted heavy-duty paper so i bought Oxford spiral bound index cards - rainbow colors 4"x6" (office max - $2.50 50/pk). They rip out so i'll put them in the disney photo album (walmart-$9). the album has 2 sleeves per page..i'll put the signed index card on top w/ the photo of the moment below. there's also an area on the side to write notes. i also picked up 2 fat ballpoint pens w/ grips at walmart. i think we're all set. also, looking forward to getting those autographs & photo ops at the character meals instead of being restricted to lines in the parks. great!!!!!
