Auto Train - Bedroom to Suite question

Hi!

I've reserved two adjoining bedrooms on the Auto Train for our trip this October. They definitely have a communicating door between them (bedrooms B and C). Will the attendant unlock that door for us even though we did not book the rooms as a "bedroom suite" but rather as just two bedrooms?

It would obviously be much more pleasant for us to have the rooms open to each other, and I need to know how to prepare the kids beforehand.

Thanks in advance! :)

We're on the train on aug. 2. I'll ask if you don't have any responses. I've also found the agents on the phone to be wonderful.

Not sure if it is still the same, but there was no door when we did the double bedroom set up. The partition was completely removed. But we booked it together and was set up that way before we boarded.

I'm not sure if the partition can be taken away as an on-board request. Maybe you could call and ask that a request be made to do so?

Thank you folks so much. Can you believe I was afraid to call because I thought it would be more expensive? :rolleyes1 Sometimes I wonder about myself...

At any rate, I called and a very helpful woman assured me that it was not more expensive, and she added a note to my reservation so that it will be all open when we board. Since I did not book an actual suite, if there is some emergency and they have to change equipment then we may not have rooms which will be able to be joined. Otherwise, we're home free.

Thank you folks so much for prodding me and thank you for your help!! :goodvibes

I used to be an Amtrak Conductor, and yes just ask your sleeping car attendant and they will unlock it.

If for some reason your attendant will not unlock it, ask to speak to the conductor. He or she is the boss of the train and that would probably resolve any issues.

Don't be pushy with the car attendant though. You have the same one the entire trip!

Wow! Talk about an expert opinion! Thank you so much for the insight. :goodvibes

Well my time there has got to account for something. Glad I could help.

They might close and lock it at night for safety reasons or something, just a heads up.
