Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

Here's the infamous Monte Cristo

ff54_1_sbl.JPG

Oh and the sprinkled white stuff, is castor sugar!

Agreed keptwoman. See, I look at that photo and there is absolutely nothing there that looks even slightly appealing. But to each their own :goodvibes

+ 1 on not wanting the Monte Cristo. It is the most appealing pic I've seen of one, but I don't think I could stomach it. Just something not right about it.

come on now, its a tradition thing:lmao:you gotta try it.

From a country where we eat this yeasty, black, sour spread on our toast! Who are we to say it will taste bad:lmao:

hahahahaha:rotfl2: Marvel too funny. I agree, it's tradition, it's gotta be tried and I'm trying it.

So I have to admit my DD and I love the Monte Christo. Although a very strange combination of sweet and savory it is for some reason appealing.
If served anywhere but DLR I would probably not even consider it. Yes it is deep fried, but then again so are alot of the things you get a DLR. Corn dogs to me are horrible yet many love them. (Something about processed meat dipped in batter and deep fried just doesn't work for me.)
The things on my list of must have to eat are:
Popcorn (This always tastes better at Disneyland)
Churro
Wetzel pretzel form DTD (no cheese dipping sauce)
(I had a pepperoni one last time with tomato dipping sauce.)
Dole Whip- haven't tried one but hear alot about them
Also chocolate fudge from the candy store on main street. I like to bring some of this home.

While on the east coast we will eat at the Cracker Barrel
My DD loves the hash brown casserole and their biscuits (savory) are usually very good. (Plus I love their gift shop)
I will also make my traditional stop at Tim Horton's while in Canada for a box of Tim Bits (doughnut holes) and a couple tins of their hot chocolate to bring home.

We want to book a private limo tour of the stars homes etc. A girlfriend of mine just got back from LA (hi Jackie, hehe) and she had a great tour, it was for 3 hours and cost $180. She gave me the brochure so I could contact the same company but the website doesn't work and when I tried the phone number, the man didn't seem to know what I was talking about, and when I said I wanted a price for a tour in early October, he hung up, haha, so needless to say even though my friend had a great experience, I cannot persevere with this company, which is disappointing.

I wish someone could recommend a company, I hate booking companies without a referral, ugh.

Argh I'm gonna cry, I just found out that Space Mountain will be closed when I get there. It is my favourite ride :sad2:

Storybook Land Canal Boats – closed August 31 – November 20 for refurbishment.
Mark Twain Riverboat – closed September 8 – 10 for refurbishment.

Nooooooo I didn't get to Minnies house last time :( I was determined to do it this time! And Pirates is closed for the whole time we are there too Waaaaaaah!!!!
Bit bummed about the Fantasyland rides because we also missed them last time but I'll live.

I read it as Minnies house as being closed only for the 9th September, so hopefully it will be open for you.

I didn't do storybook land canal boats and was looking forward to doing this ride :sad2:

The last time we were there IASWA was closed and so was Jungle river cruise, so at least I will be able to go on those this time.

Ah yay. I'm a dork LOL I was reading it as ongoing from 9 Sep.
We might get to ride Pirates if it opens on time as we will be spending most of 3 Oct there until we have to head to the airport.

whoa, that is bad. we just make it for space mountain, we finish up on the 27th so get a few days of it. it is a great ride. but it gives you another reason to back there !!

Looks like the only thing I will miss that I wanted to see is the Storybook canal boats, so that isn't too bad. I won't complain. Just happy that Peter Pan is going to be running, I can't wait to go on that.

Yeah the Monte Cristo is definitely a "when in Rome"... food experience

DH and I share one and that is more than enough - it's good in a battered- deep-fried-cheese-sprinkled-with-icing-sugar kinda way:rotfl:

In a similar vein, I have a priceless video taken at Rainforest Cafe of DS 6 encountering his first mozzarella fried cheese stick, the cheese just keeps stretching, and stretching......

On our trip in April we found a couple of relatively "real" food items when dining at DL: Bengal BBQ in Adventureland - beef or chicken kebabs, with different sauces, they were pretty good - there's even a vego option - asparagus spears.

Rancho de Zocalo in Frontierland - good ol' Mex, but you can get platters with salad and veges and it's a change from "everything deep-fried"

The best fast food burgers in the US (IMHO) however, are from In-n Out Burger - there are branches all over LA - they are only in CA. They are a family owned chain, - everything made fresh, to order, really small menu just burgers, fries and shakes. They even cut the fries by hand from real potatoes - you can see them doing it in the kitchen!

Check out their website http://www.in-n-out.com for locations, but the closest to DL is on Brookhurst.

The secret is to ask them to "animalise" your burger - or fries - this means they put a whole lot of melted cheese and fried onions on it - soooo good!
It's kind of a badly-kept locals secret - it's not on the menu but everyone asks for it. Try it!

mmmm dreaming of an in-n out burger right now.....

I'm excited about the In and Out Burger too. I can't wait to ask for a Protein burger, I'm so over getting a burger without the bun from McDs and having lettuce falling all over the place. In and Out wrap it in lettuce. Mmmm animalise sounds good!!

There is a fairly extensive "secret menu" for in n out burgers here's the link with details

thanks for the link to the terminology very handy. IF you can, have go to the In-N-Out near LAX. It is right in the flight path, and every 5 minutes planes fly past really really close, right over you. The kids really loved it.

I am definetly getting animal style:banana:

Oh yeah, good to the see the dollar back up over 80c! Was getting a bit worried when it dropped under 77c!!
