Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

Know what you mean I am starting to very excited only 20 days for us
See on the news today USA the coldest winter in years

Looking on the AccuWeather site it shows the next 15 days as having pretty good looking temps for Anaheim…..high teens to low 20’s…which for me seems just about right for traipsing round theme-parks…

If you fellow depressed Aussies who have just returned from the US need some therapy, go to Misty's Diner in Melbourne (High Street, Prahran), for an authentic USA style diner. She even serves Monte Cristo's!

I went there the other night due to satisfy my withdrawal symptoms and we all had a laugh.

Have been hanging around the WDW boards for ages, can't believe I only just found the Disneyland part! Can't wait to start planning my next trip and this thread is going to be a huge help!

Aussiegirls - Wouldn't that be a hoot if we are staying at HoJo's at the same time!!! We will be there from the 6th of December through to the 27th...............21 glorious Disney days!!! So, I get to go to visit the mouse house on Christmas Day AND my Birthday................I am soooooooo excited!!! I will be 43 on the 23rd ( but have the Peter Pan syndrome and will never really grow up!!! ).

Just wondering if ayone has to been to DL Christmas Day? Looking for any tips and I do believe there is some sort of Mickey's Christmas party............if anyone has any info I will be most grateful!!!

Oh, another thing I wanted to check, has anyone done the Fantasmic show with the dessert boxes and priority seating? I think we need to book when we get there if that is right???!!!

Luisa - glad you found the thread! I myself am only new, but look forward to reading the new posts every day and seeing what info is new! It makes such a difference to get tips and share our plans with fellow Aussies. It's really like being part of a big Disney family........:dance3:

And finally to ColB - excuse my ignoranace, but just what is a Monte Cristo and more to the point, will I like one!!!???

Til next time.................

LOL, a Monte Cristo is a meal served at the Blue Bayou restaurant overlooking the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. All I will say that if any food on earth guarantee's you a heart attack, this is the one.

And as for the Fantasmic with dessert, I did it on December 18 last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very expensive for what you really get, but being so far from home, I didn't mind spending the money.

Just get there early to reserve your seats so you can get the front right ones.

You need to book it the month before you go, if you want to go on December 18, book November 18 etc etc.

Then when you get to DL, you need to pick up your tickets at the Town Hall.

Then you need to reserve your seats where Fantasmic is shown one and a half hours before the show.

Finally then you can relax!!!!

Yes, I've been keenly watching the weather too. It's going to be around 21 for the days we are there. Which will be a good adjustment since we are coming from 40+ days recently and after Disneyland heading to NY, where the max temp I've seen is about 3-4 :scared1:

Hi ehsmum!!! Well, what a great time to have a birthday we have!!! I really don't mind this year that my birthday is so close to Christmas because I get to celebrate Christmas:santa: and my Birthday at the happiest place on earth! Are you off on a holiday this year too?!

Oh and thanks for the tips ColB! Sounds like this Monte Cristo is a one time thing?! I will be sure to check it out! We are definitely going to do the Fantasmic priority seating. It is the one thing that has stayed with me since we were there in 1998. Every time I hear the music it stll gives me goose bumps! If you have any more tips, I will be most eager to hear them.

StephAus...........I am so envious! Just a few days to go for you! I hope you have the best time ever and will share all your details when you get back!

We did the Fantasmic dessert package. It was great. My tips. Book BEFORE you go. Book the early session not the later one. If you are in the early session you can stay in your seats after and watch the fireworks and continue to enjoy your dessert and hot chocolate, its great. Check in for the event is early in the evening and we got there even earlier thanks to these boards and were second in line. It was a long wait but we got the BEST seats! We asked the Cast Member at the podium whilst we were waiting which were best and she showed us and the people in front of us, so we both grabbed that row. As ColB said, some pick their tickets up from Town Hall. As we were staying at a Disney hotel, they have a thing called Vacation Planning. As ours was a last minute trip I contacted them with everything that we wanted to do as well as some meal bookings and they did it all. When we checked into the hotel there was a folder from Vacation Planning and it has a letter with every day (even though we didnt have things booked every day) of our trip with what had been booked, times, confirmation numbers ) and it also had a cute little folder with our Fantasmic tickets. So if you stay end up staying at a Disney hotel, you can get them to make the bookings for you and they will get the tickets for you.

As for the Monte Cristo, YUK, GROSSE, EEWWWWEEE, is all I can say about that :rotfl2: (ColB, you were very diplomatic in your description of this meal) Really I was quite looking forward to it, I love Ham and cheese sandwiches so thought this would be yummy. It was just horrible I have to say, it is a ham and cheese sandwich, covered in a thick batter then deep fried then has icing sugar sprinkled on the top. OMG, to me it was just a deep fried lump of fat and the icing sugar :confused3 It was bad enough without adding that to the top :rotfl2: I tried so hard to like it, maybe I went with too higher expectations about this delicious sandwich, whatever it is. I kept having bites thinking it would get better, but after the 4th bite I just couldn't have any more. When they cleared the table and asked if there was something wrong, I said, oh no there was just too much :rolleyes1 It was not their fault that it was not to my taste. Everybodies tastes are different, many many people seem to absolutely LOVE those things, myself I would never have one again
So..... Will you like one? I am not sure, you may love it, you may hate it. I highly recommend trying the loaded potato soup at Carnation Cafe, it is SO good!

HoJo's bring out an entertainment rate also, if you have an entertainment book from here in Australia (which we do), the card from that can be used to get the discount. Very handy. I would not book through a travel agent in Australia though, the prices are just way to high. If you are booking a Disney hotel, the either book direct or through a disney specialist travel agent who don't charge commissions. We booked our accommodation at Grand Californian from 8/12 to 24/12 this year a week before we left and had absolutely no trouble getting a room and there was a buy 4 get 3 nights free deal. Whereever you book, make sure that you are able to cancel or change your hotel reservation should a better price or deal come out. With the number of nights that you are staying, you will kick yourself if you see the same room cheaper each night.

Another thing we did during the last Christmas season at Disneyland and I think they have it each year, was the Holiday Tour. It was really good and if you end up getting an annual pass you will get a discount on that tour. The tour just takes you around Disneyland Park talking about some of the holiday traditions, you get a front of the line ride on the Haunted Mansion and on It's a Small World (you virtually walk straight on to both of those), at the end of the tour, you get a hot chocolate in a souvenir mug that you keep (thats really cute) and a gingerbread man, then you take those over to a special spot to watch the parade, with roped off reserved seating. It was absolutely fantastic and we would do it again if we go back that time of year.

This is the Electrical Parade Dessert box but the Fantasmic one is exactly the same, only with a different sticker on the top.

aussietravellers, I am not surprised at your reaction to the Monte Cristo. Ever since I first saw a picture of it on the food thread it made me want to heave. I never understood all the people raving about it, even though I had never tasted it.

So now that I have heard your thoughts on it I am glad I trusted my instincts and steered well clear of it. I mean seriously, even a picture of it it disgusting so I can't imagine how gross it would be to see it on a plate in front of me :rotfl:

I second the loaded potato soup at the Carnation Cafe though. It was amazing and I could have even gone a second bowl.

We did the Fantasmic PS too. It was great. We actually didn't get there extremely early as getting through the park was a nightmare. So our seats were in the 2nd row. Just before it started the people in front of us arrived and they were 3 very huge people. As me and my girls are all quite small that meant we could not see a thing. A few minutes later the CM that was looking after us came and whispered to me. He said that there is no way that we should have to sit behind those people and that he would see what he could do for us. So, a few minutes later he called us over to the other side and he had set up 3 chairs off to the side of the PS area for us and it was awesome. We had nobody in front of us or behind us and we had a perfect view of the whole show. :yay:

We loooooooooved Disneyland.

Hi ehsmum!!! Well, what a great time to have a birthday we have!!! I really don't mind this year that my birthday is so close to Christmas because I get to celebrate Christmas:santa: and my Birthday at the happiest place on earth! Are you off on a holiday this year too?!

I don't really celebrate my birthday anymore, it's just too hard. Christmas is all about the kids and my birthday gets lost in that. It would be fun to have it at Disneyland though!

We are off to the US for 6 weeks in June and July :yay:. 3 nights Hollywood, 4 nights Anaheim, 10 nights NYC, 2 nights Washington DC, 8 nights WDW, 3 nights Universal Orlando, 3 nights North Carolina, 4 nights Las Vegas, 2 nights San Francisco, 1 night Santa Barbara - whew! Can't wait! :cool1:

Hi everybody, we got back from our first family Disney trip in November and this is the first time I have really been able to face the boards LOL
Disneyland withdrawals big time!!
Will be a long time before we go again (but we will).
Until then can I live viacariously through you all?? :sad1:

WOW! That is quite a trip, how exiting!!!!!!! We are off for a month in Sept/Oct but just to New York and WDW and can't wait. I had not even left Disneyland in December and I was already planning Sept, :rotfl: Our last ride on Toy Story and Sourin, I was saying, it's OK, we will do this at WDW in Sept. I am like you and don't celebrate birthdays anymore, but this year I am going to celebrate my 40th at WDW whilst we are there. Haven't worked out what we will do yet, am leaning towards a fireworks cruise of some sort with a cake from Grand Floridian bakery.

The first thing I want to do is say THANK YOU to aussistravellers!!! I got home from work, went straight to this thread and there was your wonderful post! I was very, very excited!!!
Seriously thinking about booking the whole holiday myself. I still have not heard back from the travel agent yet, so will be intersted to see what their quote is. We do have an entertainment book, so thanks for the tip on that one! There are so many specials happening all the time, I do want to make sure I get us a good deal. As you said, I would hate to book something and then find that it is cheaper elsewhere. The trick is convincing hubby to wait!!!

As for the Monte Cristo, the picture alone has determined that I will not be consuming one of those....................heart attack on a plate indeed!!!
:headache:
I have found a site that has loads of info on the behind the scenes tours available at DL and we have definitely added the Holiday one to our list! In fact, I am going to do that on my Birthday and that can be my present!!! The daughter will love it as she collects pins so will be thrilled that it comes with a special one!

I have received some maps that I won on an auction site recently, so will be pouring over those for a few weeks now I am sure. Have the DL, DCA, Unis Stud, Legoland and one for Ontario Mills. I am a bit of a shopper ( hubby will say that is the understatement of the year!!! ) and the Ontario place looks amazing. I think I will send him off that day for a game of golf!!!:rotfl:

becpee, would love to hear about your trip!:woohoo:

And ehsmum, I really think you need me to carry your bags!!!!:cool1:

Cheers

Have you been watching the weather reports for CA just as bad as what we get here. Knotts Berry Farm has been closed for 3 days now and Magic Mountain did not open on Monday for MLK Holiday and Disneyland/DCA closed 3 hours early.
Thursday the weather report is for the tail end of this rain to come and it is the worse one yet with strong winds mudsides and heavy snow our thoughts are with you and hope you all keep safe.
Next Wednesday is our turn to fly out for Disneyland and so far the weather is looking good it will be cold.

Hello all
One more day to go and off we go Disneyland
Thanks to everyone for your help
See you soon
