Hi there,
We will be travelling to WDW from the UK on the 9th August for two weeks.
I'm trying to understand what the weather might be like during this time. From what I have read we can expect rain most afternoons. Now, this isn't a problem but, when it rains in the UK it is freezing cold! I'm not sure whether to take extra clothing for throughout the day (I know a light jacket will be useful for air conditioned shops/restaurants etc).
Sorry if this seems a strange, or even obvious, question but, the last time we were in WDW it was in April and the weather was glorious.
Thanks.

Only 11 more days to go:wave:

It's going to be very HOT!!!!!! So I will not be packing too much warm clothing.......maybe one jacket a piece, that's it!! I believe even with the rain, it will still be extremely humid; not too cold!! Hopefully it will be refreshing!

The best tip I can give is buy lots of SUN BLOCK the best money can buy.I have seen folks from the UK get so sun burned that it ruined the whole vacation. If you are bringing small children try to keep a shirt on them when in the pool. The worst thing on vacation is a badly sunburned child.

Also from the UK and going on Saturday. This will be our third time going in August and all I can say is it will rain but it is nothing like the rain here in the UK. It is very heavy, warm and short lived not drizzling, cold and all day long. We never take any form of jacket etc as even in airconditioning it is about the same temperature as on a normal UK summer day.

Can I second the person who said about sunscreen it is very easy to get burnt and not realise it, the sun is far stronger than in the med at the same time of year, plus drink plenty of water.

Yep, got plenty of sun cream to pack.
My biggest problem will be my 16 year old DS who is incredibly fair skinned with ginger/red hair! The rest of us, including my 5 year old DD, are all dark skinned so don't usually run into problems :sunny:

Hi pbestford,

We go on the 9th as well, flying from Manchester with Virgin, are you on the same plane?

Hi Katies Dad,
Well, we're flying from Manchester but are travelling with Thomsons (Brittania airways I think). Our flight's at 10.30 to Sanford. What time do you fly?
Alison

We'll be the family where the small child is terrorising the big one :-)
Then again, isn't that the same in every family? ;-)
Enjoy your holiday.

We will be the ones were I am being dragged onto the plane
(Katies dad is at work) this is the other half), because of all the postings I have read about snakes in the waterparks.... not something I relish seeing... actually I live in fear of seeing one. But putting that aside until I get there.....its the final countdown now and I`m so unorganised bags and stuff everywhere, trying to get your life into a few cases, but it will all come together the night before I`m sure.

Have great holiday.

Helen

Hi Helen,

You've got bags and cases sorted........? Wow, that's organised ;)

I'm afraid I'm of the 'night before' mentality. I empty the whole summer wardrobe out into a pile then put it all away again, usually packing the old favourites - if they still fit :p . I'm trying to work out what size cases to take that will fit in the car!

Have fun.

Alison

Alison,

Too many bags too small a car. Dad takes us to the airport he only has a corsa!!!! DH will be the one running along the M6.

Just cos the cases are out, does not mean I have sorted anything else, was going to look on Sunday, but the weather forcast is meant to be quite nice so fancied getting a bit of sun on the white legs before I go.

We`ve only got a small car at the other end, this time I will have to run behind as I don`t fancy driving....

I have decided that if there is anything we havn`t already got in the cupboards or draws then its tuff!! we`ll have to go without or get it there.

Hope you get sorted and still have time to chill out and a nice glass of wine the night before.

Helen

Hi Helen,
Taxi to the airport so that shouldn't be a problem and 'Intermediate'?! car at the other end so I'm not sure how much space we'll have.
Unfortunately I don't get the choice about driving as DH has temporarily lost his license due to a medical condition:(
Wine the night before is compulsary I feel :)
The airport's the most stressful bit for me - DH sits chain smoking in the smoking area whilst I normally have to 'test' all the perfumes in the Duty Free with Eve. Saying that, she's almost 5 this time so reasonably civilised (most of the time:p )
We'll wave to you as our planes set off:sunny:
Alison

You will not need a jacket. It is HOT and humid. The afternoon rain may cool it off a little, but that just takes it from the low 90's to the high 80's.

Hi Alison,

We`ll most probably see you in Duty Free, Kaite age 6 loves it in there, she is adicted to collecting as many of the bits of cards sprayed with perfume she can. Shame we are not on the same flight...they could have played together.

Just been to the Opticians and managed to spend more £`s on bits and pieces, they nearly cost as much as the holiday.

Which terminal are you flying from, I think we are 2.

My first stop is normally strong coffee then I`m ready for anything, but don`t like it in 2 as you can`t sit and see the planes taking off as you drink.

Think I need to make a list or two tomorrow to try and decide how many pairs or short and tops and barbies Katie will actually be taking, at the moment she is sorting her crayons out so she can draw and colour in the `Castle`.

Have a nice day...

Helen

We're Terminal 2 too.
Probably see you there then :p
Got to get on with the 'Barbie' packing too. Bought new pens and activity pads today - 9 hours is a long time to keep occupied when you're little. I'll be pretty crazy by the time we land - and then I've got to drive!!!!!!
Where are you staying? We're down by Kissimme the first week and back up towards I Drive the second.
Alison

I'd just like to thank every one for their answers to my question about the weather.
Even though I was expecting rain most afternoons I was half expecting it to be cold like at home.
You've all saved me from packing numerous unneeded sweaters and jackets:p
Thanks again.

Hi --

We're going to be in WDW in two weeks which will make our fourth trip to Disney in August. My family really doesn't have a lot of options when to go so August is it. That said, here are my tips for August travel.

Yes, it is going to be hot. Count on it. Really hot. But that should not be a deterent to August travel. I've been very fortunate that when we travel in Aug. I've missed most of the rain. We always bring our ponchos just in case. If you work with the heat, it will not defeat you.

1 - Bring a Mister Fan. Those dearies are worth their weight in gold. We spray ourselves all day long. We even spray other people who don't have any spray bottles, and they are sooooo happy that they're standing next to us! Of course, I always ask their permission to spray them before I do. Not a single person I've asked has every said no!! Do not buy a spray fan bottle at Disney. Last trip they were $17.50, and I bought mine at a local store for about 6.99.

2 - Take a break! We always go back to our resort and take a dip in the pool and rest in our room. Especially if you're traveling with small kids, as I do. Boy, a rest during the day will make or break your trip!

3 - I carry water bottles with me besides the fans so that whenever anyone is parched, out comes the water bottle. I use the Brita bottles. They're a little heavier, but they have a filter so I can just fill up at the fountains.

4 - Wear light, comfortable clothing. If you're really susceptible to the sun, by all means wear a visor or hat of some kind. I've never brought a jacket with me to Disney in Aug., but if you get chilled in the restaurants, pack something light in your bag.

5 - We always plan lunch with priority seating, somewhere that we can sit down and relax at. We have our favorite places, one of which is Mexico in Epcot. There's nothing more tranquil than having lunch at San Angel after being in the sun all morning!

So, I know this was probably more long-winded than you wanted.
In sum. it will be hot, hot. Yes, indeedy! But if you work with it, the sun will not get the better of you.
I really believe those Mister Fans are key. They really are.
And don't forget to take a break!

Have a great trip!!!

Debbie
