August W.I.S.H. Challenge - The Sunday of Summer

Really?!?! :sad2:
There will be no way to space the cots. With my accommodations of staying 6 feet away from everyone, setting up the cots, then putting them away will be impossible. I have no other choice.

The worst for me right now is trying how to deal with the first two weeks of tears without picking them up and comforting them, not to mention chasing the ones who try to make a run for it out the door. Parents normally come into the classroom to get an idea of what we do so they feel comfortable leaving their darlings with me. They sign their kids in and out inside the classroom. Some stay for breakfast to help. Parents are not allowed in the building. How the heck am I supposed to do arrivals and dismissals safely? The first 6 weeks of laying down routines and making them love school and their teachers is SO HARD under normal conditions. I just don't even know right now...

Wow. So glad that your FIL is healthy. Now hoping your DS feels better soon.

My fingers are crossed!

Thanks! He is feeling much better this morning. :goodvibes
It's just nerve-wracking nowadays, because your brain jumps to scary stuff instead of normal explanations.

Our favorite beach is in N. Truro, Cape Cod, MA, right on Cape Cod Bay.

I had relatives who lived there a long time ago!! (I remember seeing the town name in some family history stuff my aunt game me.) - Small world!

To the teachers here, huge virtual hugs!! It's going to be a very weird year.

I remember reading something about socially distant games. I will try to post it if I can find it again.

My family went to N. Truro every summer long before I was born, and when the Top Mast Motel owned by Nancy & Al Silva opened, we always stayed there. They are celebrating 50 years. We've been prioritizing Disney World, so we haven't been since DD was in high school. We would like to get back there in the next couple of years though.

Thanks for the hug! I'm going to need it.

Please know that wasn’t towards you. It seems like the district should find a way to help make the kids more comfortable. It sounds like while our classes might be similar, our districts are different. I can’t even get into my building yet (not that I would since I’m away). And the administration is having the custodians set up desks in classrooms to see the difference between 3 ft (our county regulations) and 6 ft (CDC regulations). I’m pretty sure I’ll be told how to set up my classroom. No matter what, we’ll just do the best we can and hopefully everyone stays safe and the kids feel comfortable.

I wasn’t taking it personally at all, so don’t worry about that. Our schools are open year-round providing 3 meals a day for the community, so if I wanted, I could have spent the summer in my room...not that I would want to LOL.

This is a small sampling of how my classroom is supposed to look. It will not be like this in 2020/2021. Instead, it will be an empty box with desks.

I'm so distraught over this.

Happy Friday everyone! Took today off (for back to school prep HA!) those backpacks will get lots of use virtually, maybe I'll start storing the laptops in them. So now I'll be hanging out with the kiddos...movie watching, playing in the sprinkler.

Do you all take of jewelry at night or while exercising? I never used to but now I am noticing I am getting painful calluses under my wedding and engagement rings. What do you all do typically? I had to go without either for a few days and had just my wedding band on for about a week while my finger healed. Couple days of both and I am in the same situation. First world problems I know.

Also any recommendations for good shorts for short people with larger thighs that dont ride up? I avoided shorts for YEAR and now finally feel comfortable wearing them again but having a hard time find a pair that stays put and doesn't dig in. Been wearing old maternity shorts because they are the only pair not doing an upcreep...my daughter will be two this weekend :confused3

Anywho have a good day all.

I just wear my gold band with diamonds my husband gave me (lost my engagement ring years ago) when I exercise or walk and I do notice my fingers swell up in this heat. Maybe taking it off and rubbing lotion in your hands before putting it back on? I don’t wear shorts anymore (my 60+ plus year old legs won’t allow it!) but my daughter likes to buy her nicer shorts from Ann Taylor and more casual from Old Navy or Target. And Land’s End-which is having a huge sale right now.

My Friday is not what I was planning-off to the dentist this afternoon. Felt a couple twangs last night, so luckily they can get me in today. Hoping it’s just a cavity. Haven’t had one in years so it figures I get one during a pandemic!

I hear you! My dentist discovered three tiny cavities at my cleaning! I fully blame the pandemic - my evening routine stayed intact, but my morning routine went completely out the window, and I was actually forgetting to brush at the beginning (plus baking more sugary treats).

Best of luck!

I've decided I did break my little toe... it's been over three weeks and is still sore. My Acupuncturist said it could be 6+ weeks before it heals... ggggrrrr. I was going to stop during my beach loop drive this morning and do a short walk anyway, but left without my phone and didn't feel comfortable being unreachable for that long, so skipped it.

I have an appointment for a badly needed massage tomorrow. The place I go to has outdoor seated massages available, and I felt comfortable with that... really looking forward to it and oh do my shoulders and lower back need it.

Have to go in to the office this afternoon and pack stuff up. I think I sorted thru my desk-crap the beginning of the year and cleared some stuff out, but can't remember for sure... I hope I did to make today easier. I need to bring home my docking station and have the pots of three dead plants, then some odds-and-ends. It is going to be very strange to be in the city and in the office. I know one other person from my extended team will be there at the same time, but we had to make appointments so they could control how many people were going in-and-out. Might be emotional.

Aside for the massage, no big plans for the weekend, temps are supposed to heat back up, I think to the 90's Sunday, yard work will need to happen early, then kick back and relax.

After 27 years, I have a permanent indentation on my finger. I had to have my rings removed when I was pregnant. Now I take a water pill, so I rarely have a problem with swelling unless I eat salty junk food. Since I started losing weight, my diamond ring does spin around on my finger, but I don't want to get it sized until I reach goal weight.

I wear yoga shorts that have spandex. They are the only ones that stay put and don't chafe when I walk. They aren't exactly a fashion statement, but when I need to look good, I just wear a sundress.

Started my day with a faculty meeting from the beach. Then listened to a 5.5 hour school board meeting from last night. The results are hybrid/virtual for first 4 weeks. Too many high school students wanted 100% live to be able to social distance properly. And the board thought this would be the best way for students and teachers to acclimate to this new environment. But it will be reviewed at each board meeting...meaning it could change at any point to all virtual or add back the option of 100% live. With my small class size, this means I’ll have 4-5 students live in the classroom at a time. Definitely a different kind of year. I’m hoping we’ll be able to do Google Meets or something so the virtual kids can be online interacting with the students in the classroom during morning meetings, calendar, read alouds, etc. just not sure the exact logistics of how to make that work. But time will tell...

When I was at school, I spoke with one of our Assistant Principals. She's thinking we will be going remote in November, not sure if beginning or end. Then we won't come back until March. Unfortunately, the big boss doesn't trust teachers to do their jobs from home, so we will have to report to our schools and teach to a camera in our classrooms. The hardest part of this is going to be the first 6 weeks, laying down routines, and not having the usual tricks up my sleeve. The beginning is always hard, but this will be unprecedented...like the virus.

DD didn't get the job at the salon. Someone with several years of experience as a receptionist got it. I'm not surprised, but we are disappointed because it would have been a nice, safe place for her to work, and it is close to home. Not meant to be. So. Now she is looking at online opportunities, but most require 6 weeks of training on site. She is trying to avoid people, not be in a room with a crowd all day long for over a month. I'm not trying to stress over it because she is productive in school and her YouTube channel. But, Daddy is being a nag...Ugh!!!

I'm open to suggestions...
