August W.I.S.H. Challenge - The Sunday of Summer

MONDAY MOTIVATION:

What is motivating your beautiful self this week?
Being back from vacation, I am going to jumpstart myself back into healthy eating using the 3 Day Refresh from Beachbody. It’s a mix of shakes as well as fruits, veggies and healthy fats. I have a grocery pickup at 9 with lots of healthy options for snacks and meals for the rest of the week. I’m also going to redo the workout program that I did before vacation (#mbf).

I thought when we returned home from vacation, the kitchen would’ve complete. But there was a delay in the countertops. So we still don’t have a functioning kitchen :(
That makes meal planning a little tough. But I’m hopeful we’ll have it early this week.

Monday Motivation:

I'm motivated to make my last 9 days of freedom count.

Even though I was working hard in the spring, I had more freedom. I could take my break whenever I wanted. I worked through lunch so that I could take a midday break and walk on the beach instead of eating. I was able to wake up without an alarm, and got everything done on my terms. All of my meetings and live class time were after 9am, so it was a lot nicer than waking up at 5:45am to a jarring alarm, having to eat, make lunch, shower, get dressed, makeup, etc., and drive the difficult roads to school. Once I had it all figured out, remote teaching from home was lovely. Now I will be returning to in-person instruction (OH. MY. GOD.) during the most difficult time of year under the most difficult circumstances with very little support.

I have always loved and appreciated summer for the rejuvenation that it usually gives me. In some ways it did that, but I didn't have the escape that I craved and needed because of the pandemic. For what it has been, being away from my school, I truly am grateful. I will remember it fondly when I'm back at the front lines without hazard pay.

Now that the weather has improved, I need to start walking longer again. Last week was awful and I did 20 minutes tops several days. Luckily when it’s that hot I don’t feel like eating much, so that probably saved me! So no excuses this week, back to two mile walks and healthy meals.

Thinking about all of you getting ready for another school year under these challenging conditions-PollyannaMom, has your son returned to college?

Yes, sending hugs to all you beautiful teachers facing such challenges as back-to-school looms... as if teaching isn't a big enough challenge in and of itself.

I continued to struggle with sugar last week, so my motivation this week is to make some small improvement, a couple little steps in the right direction to getting back on track. I've even pretty much dropped out of Noom, except to log my food and weight, so I'll include doing the lessons every day as a "small step".

Cleaning out my office last week has got me motivated to make my craft room into a proper office. I have decided I want an actual desk, an L shaped desk with more desktop space. Now I just need to clear out everything that's in here, including getting rid of a couple things. A couple things will get stored in the basement, but that means getting down there to clean stuff up. Arggg...

It is "cooling off" to the high 80's today, thank goodness. All I did yesterday was lay on the sofa in front of the fan, but it turns out this was good for my foot because it feels significantly better this morning.

The gal at the OC rescue was supposed to take a picture of the kittens Saturday, but I haven't heard back from her. The gal at the local rescue having the event this weekend emailed and sent an application, but mentioned that there were only a few slots open on Sunday before the post was even in the Blog, and they got a huge response to the post, so I'm thinking it's unlikely that I'll get one of them. Feeling very blocked right now, from finding a kitten. We are both so ready to have a little friend join us.

I haven't logged my food on Noom for a month because of the surgery/modified diet and the power outage. Today, I finally got back on. My only Noom activity has been messaging back and forth with my coach. He's pretty laid back especially when I have stuff going on, and he waits for me to get my act together. It has been a roller coaster, and fortunately he has been willing to ride it with me. I don't post to the group. You all are my support group. They are a bunch of posers.

Glad your foot feels better.:flower1:

You and your kittie will find each other when it's right. :cat:

The only interaction I have with a "coach" is when she posts to the group. Do you have an individual coach you work with?

TOPIC TUESDAY

I'm on a Miranda Hart kick this week, I absolutely adore her. Here's another quote to ponder:

Today my daily to do list includes (ever more important to have a list so we can adhere to my favorite phrase "relax within a structure") - play Lego. I vow that going forward my to do list will always include a time of play.

What are three things on your to do list today? One for exercise, one for healthy eating and one for fun. And as a bonus: what do you think about the idea of "relax within a structure"?

I like the idea of relaxed within a structure. Personally my planning style for most things has been "let's have a general idea of what to accomplish...a beginning and end with a few must accomplishes in the middle and sort of wing the rest."
I'm likely not making sense. My kids slept past six (yay) but I've been up since before five thanks to a thunderstorm.

I love “relax with structure”!!! That is so me! I thrive on having at least a loose schedule, even at home. And anticipation is a big part of any experience in my head. - Difficult things are worse if I have time to worry about them first, and good things are better if I have time to look forward to them.

Exercise: treadmill
Healthy eating: grocery shop appropriately
Fun: watch TV shows from my youth and color

I'm on a Miranda Hart kick this week...

Just Googled her, and so happy I did! - I was a fan without even knowing it! (I love her as Chummy in Call the Midwife, but didn’t connect the name.)

I listed to one of the “Chambles” and, I think, signed up for her newsletter (hard to tell if it went through on my phone.)

Thanks so much for the connection!

I tend to be a very structured planner. And this whole pandemic has thrown me for a loop. So I learned to adjust to more loose planning. But I think I basically wake up each day with a schedule and to do list in my head. Today’s TO DO list:
-workout(core today)
-follow 3 Day Refresh eating schedule
-pay bills
-look for online lesson inspiration
-visit car dealership
-watch son’s baseball game

Especially during this pandemic I have found it helpful to have something to accomplish every day so I didn’t end up sleeping til noon and staying in my pjs until dinner time.
Mornings are for tasks around the house and errands. Lunch is around 1:00 and then I relax. I have kept loosely to this schedule since I retired.

Today-
Drop bags off at Goodwill
Pick up a few things at drugstore
Weed front flower bedS
Walk around 3:00
Snack on watermelon
For fun I will read on the deck and check out Miranda Hart online!

I get the newsletter, it always seems to be a bright spot when I need to hear something positive. Love her IG feed as well. I think she hasn't done any Chambles lately, or I've missed them, need to take a look and see. She's the only celebrity that I've ever felt like I'd like to be BFFs with.

When I read "relax within a structure" I thought of a couple things... in gardening I like clearly defined clean lines around the edge of the garden then letting the plants grown wild and free. Same with haircuts, good structure cut in so that my hair can be loose and natural. Also with planning WDW trips, its months of planning, booking, re-booking, re-planning, then when I'm there it's "whatever". So I'd say I do well relaxing within structure.

For work I do to-do lists but I really don't do them for personal stuff, so when I was doing my morning "commute" drive around the beach I had to think of what to put on one.

Exercise... I will do 1000 steps more than I did yesterday
Food... I will not have a piece of cake for dinner tonight
Play... actually had to think on this the longest. I think I'm going to go up to the neighborhood book store after work. I certainly don't "need" any books, but everytime I drive by it looks so warm and inviting and bookstores are one of my guilty pleasures, so I know it will make me very happy. Other than that I think I'll do some silly dancing.

My motivation this week is the fact that DH is 3 pounds from his goal. Granted, he's been driving me crazy and the closer he gets to his goal the more he talks about it. It's just interesting how he severly cut his food intake and upped his running and poof--pounds melt. Men.

exercise: I did my usual yoga this morning
food: since i worked at home I had the treat of a bagel and peanut butter and tea. That wasn't necessarily healthy, but it was on my list today!
play: I took a "break" from work and did a 20 minute walk with a girlfriend. It was nice to catch up.

relax within a structure: hmmm I am a very structured person and pretty much need to know what I'm doing every minute of every day. That being said, I also love being a sloth. Sooo I suppose I am structuring time to do nothing within my days.

if you think about it, please let me know when the next ones arrives. Then if I haven’t received it as well, I’ll know it didn’t go through.

I love this concept. It is how I live every day of my life. I need structure. I feel secure when I make plans, even if they change, so I have plan A, B, C, etc. I also have learned to be somewhat flexible, but I prefer if I'm in control of that flexibility. I'm definitely not a "fly by the seat of my pants" kind of person. My job requires tremendous structure and flexibility. After 20 years, I am able to relax in that structure.

When on summer break, I have to have this relaxed structure so that I can make the most of my time. In March and April when I was reeling from the pandemic, I had days when I clung to structure and days that if I remembered to shower, it was a big deal.

Chores: Mopping floor, helping DD wash her car, laundry, cooking, and dishes.

Exercise: Walking 30 minutes in pool (5 feet deep).

Fun: Lying on a float in the pool.

Healthy eating: Eggs & coffee for breakfast; Smoothie (blueberries, raspberries, watermelon, spinach, Romaine lettuce, Iconic vanilla protein shake) for lunch; Fish and salad for dinner.
