August horror stories?

oh, if you dont want to bring bottled water you can always find the COLDEST drinking fountain and you won't really taste the water. :)

It'll be hot, but the parks will be open late. Plus, FL kids should go back to school around then, probably the 7th. Enjoy!

we were at THE WORLD 7-31 thru 8-6 this past summer, and yes it was HOT and HUMID....but you know what not really any worse than here in southern Ohio at that time of year...Granted I didnt have small children to deal with, (DH, DS22, DS12 and myself), but we still had a WONDERFUL time...we were spending quality family time at one of the best places you could possibly be... My advice would be the same as many others on here...Plan your day (which with ADR's) you pretty much have to anyway...Arrive early...do the things that are MUST DO'S for your group...Take time to recharge while the day is at its hottest...Even my older kids were ready for some pool time, and maybe a nap before dinner....just made it seem more like a vacation...get ADRs for a nice meal at a seating (5-6pm) it will probably be raining then anyway and hit the parks again after dinner...Just remember....you probably already know this...there is absolutely NO WAY to do EVERYTHING there is to do at DISNEY....I dont even think if you stayed for a Whole Month at once you could do it all....just make wonderful memories with your family, they are something that no one can every take away..... :grouphug:

Well, vacation bidding is over at DH's company and we didn't get the week we wanted. We are booked for May 27-June 5, all ADR's secured, everything except airfare. BUT DH didn't get that week. I only slept 3 hours last night because I was so nervous about the bid. I had a feeling it wouldn't go well, and it didn't.

Bottom line is this:
We go August 4-12 or we don't go at all. I am absolutely sick over it. I wanted DS to go to Star Wars weekend, I wanted to miss the absolute blatantly brutal heat, I wanted to miss crowds of "9". DH is actually pleased. He is excited about having our dates set in stone. But I can NOT get excited about going in August.

Please share ALL of your August experiences - crowds, heat, Brazilian tour groups, whatever. I have to know if it is really worth bothering to go in August of 2006 or if we should just scrap it. We have never been when it is really crowded OR really hot. I can't imagine this being a good thing, but DH wants to try. So let me have it - tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly for August! :listen:

Those are the exact days we are going next year. We changed from November to August due to DS11 in middle school. Really hard this year when we pulled him for a week.

I have already renewed by subscription to TourGuideMIke.com and we plan to be at parks early, leave early afternoon and head to pools or waterparks.

Maybe we'll see you there!

We've gone 3 times in August, and it wasn't that bad. Yes, it's hot, but the thunderstorms are awesome! It's so much fun when it rains, and it stays warm. I'm one of those "weirdos" who LOVES the muggy Florida weather (it's so dry here in CA!). But sometimes that sun is blazing hot, so I always wear a hat. As far as crowds go, it didn't seem any more crowded to me in August than any other time we've gone (June, October).

So, pack an umbrella & some parkas, sunscreen & bottled water, and have a blast!! :umbrella:

Stayed at the Poly this past August (7/30 - 8/6) and had a wonderful time.

The heat effects different people in different ways, but I never found it unbearably hot. Only once did the heat really come into play when we sat in direct sunlight at Lights, Motors, Action! (it was cloudy when we picked our seats only to have the sun come out right before the show started).

Other than that, we drank plenty of fluids, ate a lot of ice cream, and ducked out of the parks during the hottest hours of the day.

We had so much fun that we're going again this July.
