August Crowds

I was thinking about going in Aug 2008 the dates will be aug 17-24 does anyone know how the crowds will be then from there own experience. The points drop starting the 16th of Aug and I think kids go back to school in some states in Aug. Please if anyone could help. Thanks

You should be OK--at least as far as Florida public schools are concerned.

Most public schools should start on or about August 18.

Aug 2007 was our 5th Aug in a row (we go the same weeks you are proposing) and crowds are typically not crazy but still heavy. 2006 was a stange year the parks were empty. It seems most of the crowd that time of year is international based and with the $$ remaining weak I suspect the Non US folks like that cheap Disney trip! Can you blame them.

Most of the popular rides have 40 min waits and hour or 2 after park openings.

My recomendation is get in at park opening leave at lunch and head back after dinner... long summer hours!

we went the last week of august for many years (went in june & oct instead this year).
we LOVED that time: it does get hot (think summer in fla ) ~ but you can work with it.......we liked going to the parks early, back to the resort to swim & relax around 1pm (the crowds, lines, & HEAT tend to build in the aftternoon), then back to the parks aroung 4-5PM.
there's norm a daily rain shower lasting about 30 minutes, which cools things off a bit. also, the shops are air-conditioned, & a nice reprieve from the sun sometimes.
be prepared that if they offer free dining for that time period again this year, the crowds increase substantially ~ just try to do the parks early & late.

We've been a few times in August, but not that late. Since we usually travel in the summer when the kids are out of school, we have noticed that the August crowds are considerably lighter than our June/July trips. Though hot and a daily rain (you can bet your first born that you will have a daily thunderstorm), we actually prefer to go in August based on the crowds.

Thats the exact we are going as well. We are going more for the cheaper point usage then the rest of the summer.
