August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

so does it count, if i have started doing the laundry at least to pack? Even if it is only the babies ????

went and bought a new camera today, as DH took mine when he went flying, and managed to break it on the cyclic somehow.... grrrr!

oh well, i went the cheap route this time (again) so that if/when this one breaks, i won't be heartbroken again...

Your 'doing laundry' counts if my 'tossing things on the spare room bed' counts. I say it is progress no matter what! :thumbsup2

Well I am well on the way to being packed but as i leave in one week then I have to get a move on! Can't believe all of a sudden the cruise is so close!

Hi Gang -

Well I am packing the last suitcase tonight...for DH. I am running out of room so I hope he doesn't mind having no shoes :rotfl: I am starting to go through the motions..."Do I "really" need this?" I think I will have enough space overall but was hoping to have enough room to bring things back. It is a good feeling to be almost done, especially since work has exploded over the last week or so and I hate to be rushing around last minute doing anything.

For those of you who have used luggage scales in the past, how reliable are they? I was hoping to stay within 10lbs of the max, but I am slowly creeping up to 50lbs for our checked bag that will have all of our miscellaneous stuff. I have accomplished packing a carryon for each person with all of their clothes. So far everything is going according to plan :thumbsup2

Our new cameras arrived today. We will spend time this weekend trying them out! Have a great weekend everyone...it won't be long now that we will be hanging out at the Goofy Pool. It will be fun putting DISboards names with a face :)

Well, I just found out today that I'm pregnant! It's our first & we've been trying for over a year so needless to say we're excited. I'm just worried about what this will mean for our travels. Our trip is beginning the 1st of August with a visit to the in-laws in NJ before the cruise and then after we're off to Ireland before heading back home on the 31st of August. I found the medical waiver, but it says that it needs to be completed 14 days prior to cruising & there is an area for a physicians signature. I do have a Dr. appointment on Monday, but that's after the 14 day prior point. Do you think I need that if I'm only like 7/8 weeks at time of sailing? Should I just fax it tonight without the signature so it's there before the 14 day window? What would you do?
It's amazing just how much most stressful this preparation has gotten (but in a good way). ;)

Congratulations!!! How exciting!

I think Disney will understand that there are some things you just can't plan! I would give them a call and explain the situation and it can't hurt to fax it twice either.

I was so excited about Jaymie that I forgot to post what I logged on to post -
Has anyone heard of the Harry Potter walking tour in London? - or even better been on it? Its 2.5 hours walking, boating, bussing, undergrounding, and it is by a group called Celebrity Tours that are not at all associated with the book or movie or anything. It sounds fantastic - almost too good to be true. Kids 12 &U are free. I've tried emailing them but haven't gotten a response yet.

The scale we have has worked beautifully! I'm glad there are 2 of us....and glad Mike has the upper body strength to hold the suitcase up with the scale at such an odd angle....I could never do it! But it has worked very well. One of our best purchases for travel.

Done my 30 clock hours! Yeah, got paid for work last week - worked 47 hours as a fill in! I must have really wanted to drink on this trip since I volunteered for every hour no one wanted. Didn't realize it was so many. Good thing I didn't realize it while I was doing it.

I have a well used luggage scale and if I can pick it up it work great. I ussally have to hold it up with both hands.

Too busy working all weekend to pack until Monday but thats my day. My sister gave her kids lists today to start rounding up stuff. Good luck, Gin! She lurks on here but can't seem to log in.

I am with you there. The DD's and I have been going through that motion. Then, we gathered the list of items and things that we still need and starting purchasing them today at the Luggage Center, Old Navy, and Nordstrom Rack.

I was told by American Airlines and US Airways that it is best to use the type of scale at the airport which are the ones where luggage sit instead of the ones normally seen at the luggage and travel stores. The handheld ones do have an advantage, they have an option in kilograms. I saw one today at the store and thought about purchasing one. But decided not.

That's neat! Our DD7 wanted a digital camera:rotfl: Wow! What a request! So, I told her that I am going to do better than that. I am going to buy as many disposable cameras that she wanted in a Disney or Princess. This way, they won't be too expensive to replace.

Looking forward to the cruise!

Congratulations, Jaymie! You should be fine in getting the medical forms completed next week. FYI - I just FAXed all our medical forms today. Ours were not straightforward. So, they are very accommodating. Just follow-up with them after you FAX them the form.

Again! Congrats! Go on as many cruises before the baby is born. Enjoy those shore excursions.

Congratulations! Call DCL and explain that you just found out and that you will be seeing the doctor on Monday and would they like you to send it now without the signature or on Monday with it. Either way get it signed on Monday so you have a copy anyway.

Sorry I can't help with your questions, I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!
I would suggest calling DCL though.

Was laundry expensive? That was my luck is when I run into everyone at the laundry room at the same time.

I am hoping to mix and match and still keep everyone in our party to one carry-on and check in just the toiletries e.g. shampoo, conditioner, medicines, etc.

I'm thinking it was something like $4 total for a load. That was if you only needed one cycle on the dryers though, they aren't the greatest. Some one please correct me if i'm wrong on the price. It's has gotten a bit easier now though, you can use your KTTW card to pay instead of bringing tons of quarters.:thumbs up 2

I had to share this with all of you, because I have been worried about the detergent, fabric softener and anti-static sheets on board due to my allergies. In addition to having to do loads of laundry, I found a Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets (detergent+softener+anti-static) all in one. It's great! I bought it at Target today. Now, I don't have to add pounds to my checked in luggage.:yay:

I used those on our last cruise, be sure you already have the water going before you put the sheet on top of your clothes, they can leave marks.

Thanks for the advise. My dad showed up with those 3 in 1 sheetslast weekend when he visted. He has become so domestic since mom went into a home, it always surprises me.

Anyone have any ideas for celebrating my dad's 75th birthday on board? His actual 75th is Aug 5th but the ship is more exciting then just family in Barcelona.
