August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Thank you. It is true, the faculty advisors called everyone last night to tell us and they have counselors in school today. Apparently she lived with her grandmother, her father left and I don't know where her mother is. Well, our kids know they are loved and have someone to go to. I just reminded her that even if she feels she can't talk to me, she can go to a teacher or guidance person. Luckily we are pretty close and talk about all kinds of stuff including the pressures of being a good student.

Wow Cathy, thats terrible. The only positive thing is that it will hopefully encourage some good discussions between her classmates and their families. Sometimes it is not easy to recognize depression in a teenager. Some tend to get so moody and don't communicate like they used to and it is so easy to just think it's normal teenage behavior. My DS has been attending a weekly teen depression workshop since December when he told us he was still feeling depressed over loosing his Grandma in May 2003. He was really not showing obvious signs of depression other than his grades were dropping. When we sat down and discussed the grades a lot came out that we didn't even realize was going on (not sleeping well, lack of interest in his classes etc) and this workshop has really made a difference. I'm glad we have a good relationship and he felt comfortable talking about it with us. So many kids don't feel they can talk to anyone and carry it around inside until they can't take it anymore. My prayers go out to her family.

Sorry, Cathy.....and I'm so sorry for this girl and her family. It is almost incomprehensible......so sad, such a loss.

Vickie.....best wishes to your son. Thank goodness he talked to you!! Yea!!
That's something I am soooo grateful for...my kids yap way too much, but it's a great thing.
We are all very blessed, aren't we??

Happy windy, :cold: , Tuesday right back at ya.
We are having very weird weather right now. Yesterday it was 70 and today we've had rain, snow and now it is very windy with gusts over 40 mph. I can't wait to go to WDW in 16 days  .

Hi again all,

I'm sorry, too, for that girl, and it's hard to segue from that topic back to a cruise question. Have people been thinking more about excursions? After reading so many negative reports about the pool, I was thinking of booking a room at the El Cid resort in Mazatlan, since it seems to have such a nice pool. I got the idea from reading trip reports from people that have booked a day room, mainly in Nassau, I guess, so that they could use the pool area of the resort. I was just curious if anyone else was thinking along those lines.

I also wanted, belatedly, to Maddie'smom on this thread for allowing us to link our dining reservation with hers so that we could confirm an early dinner seating. Thanks again!

Carl

For Mazatlan, DCL has their "Beach Break". which is at the Los Sabalos resort....includes hotel amenities, meal and transportation.
Jay & the kids and I will probably take the water taxi to Stone Island on our own...it's close to the ship.

Cabo has a couple of resort get-aways with DCL. We will probably do the Chileno Bay Snorkeling.

And Puerto Vallarta also has a couple of resorts available with DCL. We might go with DCL on the Las Caletas Hideaway....former home of John Huston. I think it sounds interesting, and we can g some beach time in also.
As far as things like the pirate ships and dolphins, it looks like Puerto Vallarta has the best choices.
We usually go on our own with excursions, but neither of us is too crazy about taking off on our own in Mexico. So we'll pretty much stick with what Disney offers.

I've been to Puerto Vallarta before and did enjoy the Las Caletas experience. It was nice to get a massage on the beach. Even though the massage wasn't the best, it was relaxing when combined with the ocean breeze. I'll have to compare the El Cid resort to the one that Disney picked.

Let me know what you find out about El Cid......maybe that would be a better choice for us, too.

Okay, people.....we're getting closer!!
Let's get this party started!!!:cool1:  :rockband: :dancer: :boat: :jumping1:

When I called the resort and looked at the pictures on their web page (elcid.com) and Expedia's, it looks like you can get a room for $86 with Expedia at the Castillas building that gives you access to that large pool, which I guess is the one they say is the largest in Mazatlan. I have to research further to see if getting a room for just the day is an option. Frank also says some positive things about it in his Mazatlan threat.

Thank you all, sorry to bring things down a bit there.

Wow, I have got to look at the excursions to see what might be good for us. Everyone has good ideas here about a day room or going with DCL to a resort to get hotel amenities. Maybe this weekend I will look at my printouts of them.

Cathy :sunny:

Cathy, :grouphug: to your daughter and her friends, hope they are all coping during this tragic time.

Two weeks from right now we should be somewhere in North Carolina, as long as the traffic is not too bad. We are driving to WDW :mickeybar this time. Can't wait to get a way from this  weather and see ::MickeyMo and ::MinnieMo .

I really should look at the excursions again, but I think I will wait until after vacation. I have some time before they need to be booked.

Go right ahead....rub it in....we'll all sit here and keep eachother company while you are havng fun with the Mouse. Don't worry...nope...don't feel bad....we're okay....we don't need a vacation......:guilty:

I am much happier tonight than I was last night. I finished the personal taxes, so now I only need to do Jay's Dad's. Yea!!:cool1:

Maybe now I can just relax and countdown to vacation time. Yeah, right. Relax is not in my vocabulary.

Cathy....you could NEVER bring us down! I'm sorry if I made you feel like that. I'm glad you shared with us. It reminds us to talk to our kids, and we're here for prayers and good wishes.

Sure.....this coming from the ' princess: of the Vegas weekends'. I understand you don't count them as vacations, but the rest of us do. We aren't as lucky to live that close, although I wish I did. Wait.....that could get rather expensive; jewelry and artwork are not good purchases to make on a regular basis :teeth: .

Thanks, things are going better, tonight there is a dance they are excited about (fundraiser for their Washington, DC trip in May). It is snowing though so I hope they don't cancel it! :cold: :cold: :cold:

Kids rebound pretty quickly, if the adults will let them. When Megan was in high school, a young guy comitted suicide in one of Megan's friend's backyard. It was the he loved her/she didn't love him thing....it was so awful. The kids held a memorial out there and talked and cried all night. They eventually got over it, but the adults who kept pushing counseling on them and asking if they were okay didn't help.

My dearest jilljill...it is not my fault that you choose to live in that godforsakencoldstate, and nowhere near Vegas. You are right though, you couldn't afford it.....I followed you around the malls, remember???
Geesh, guys.....you should see her SHOP!! When we are in port, we can skip the talks they give on shopping, and just follow jilljill around!!!::yes::
Besides, when it gets hot this summer and you are at the beach, you can rub that in!

I don't like CT beaches very much. They are crowded and so rocky with seaweed all over. I guess there are some nicer ones, but the public ones I've been to aren't too good. Growing up my sister and I spent a week each summer at my Grandparent's in Greenwich. They had a nice resident's only beach and an island beach that you took a boat to. It was so much fun. They always took us to a play and out to dinner, the zoo, etc. Ah, memories.

That little banana guy dancing to the side while I'm trying to type is catching my eye. What is he so happy about?

They did have the dance tonight, I drove 3 noisy girls there. DD is sleeping over a friend's from there, but she didn't bring any bag with her so I don't know if she'll stop home or call to make me drive stuff over. :)

Cathy
 I think he's happy because he doesn't live where it gets cold and snows :rotfl: . That's the only thing I can come up with on this :cold: night.
Sorry to hear that you were getting snow today, they are calling for it here tonight. I hope they are wrong.

Stacey, Stacey...don't forget that I also followed you around the exact same malls and watched you shop. But I also admit that I 'helped' you do some of your shopping too :cheer2: . We made quite a pair at the malls. Good thing I'm not into the Mexican folk art, that would be a very bad thing.

Don't mean to be rude or anything but that little banana guy is dancing about the weather we've had this week  It was in the low 80's today and not a cloud in the sky. Although its supposed to drop to the 70's tomorrow it's still supposed to be :sunny:
Have a great weekend everyone, no matter what your weather is!
