Actually the one leaving today is a Western -- I have friends on the last Eastern before us (it goes to Tortola) and it leaves a week from now . . .

I know, believe me, I WISH that was the Eastern before ours! I was just hyperaware of which one it was because I had been talking today to the people I know who leave next Saturday on the last Eastern before ours

I went to JJ's HotDog truck on Bloomfield ave in Newark

"Amazing Hot Dog" in Verona NJ beats the pants off of any hot dog truck in Newark.

and re TX, hey - I'm not being mowed down by speeding cars every time I step out of my house. We lived in NYC for 8 years and loved it. But Texas really does have its charms. Like space. And birds.

- Are the taxis in St. Thomas similar to the taxis in St. Maarten where they pick up other travelers along the way to your destination?

- Does Meghan Bay have changing facilities and showers?

Bellelinus...I am so jealous that you get to go on the Europe Disney cruise next year..I'd love to go but would probably have to mortgage my house just to afford it.

I know . . . we did the Med in 2007 and it was the best vacation I ever had . . . so I can only imagine how great the Baltic will be. Maybe something surprising and wonderful will happen and you will be able to go!

As for your other questions, I think the decision of when to get to the port is a personal one - some like to get there right as it opens at 10 so that they feel a part of the cruise quickly and can get on the ship early, get Palo reservations, etc. (It doesn't look as though getting there early to get an upgrade is possible since our cruise seems to be full) Others would rather show up at lunch time and go more or less right on the ship. You have to decide what you would prefer.

When I was in St. Thomas the prices per person were listed and you might get a 4 passenger car or might get a van with more people in it, and it might make a few stops if there are several groups. Not sure about the changing facilities at Megan's bay - I hope someone can help you with that.

Somehow I missed the list of movies they are showing for our cruise! I will have to look for that.

The port doesn't open until at least 10 for the next set of cruisers, if you arrive before then you'll be held in your car and not even allowed to park. I'm planning on dropping our rental off at Budget around 10:30-11 hoping we'll be o.k. by then. The only reason to get to the port early is to get an early boarding number or snag an upgrade, but reports are that our ship is totally sold out. As long as I get onboard by 12:30, I"ll be good. They usually start boarding around 11:30 - 12.

- Are the taxis in St. Thomas similar to the taxis in St. Maarten where they pick up other travelers along the way to your destination? Ususally no, as they get filled up at the pier. If yours isn't filled, might happen. The taxis in St. Thomas are the safari taxis, with the bench seating located in the bed of the pick up back.

- Does Meghan Bay have changing facilities and showers? yes

It looks like there are 31 families participating 58 adults and 62 kids. We have a nice diverse group, moms, dads, grandparents, kids of all ages and even a 3mos old little guy! We also have several birthdays that I know of including a couple of special ones, 2 sweet 16 girls and a 40th bday! If anyone else is celebrating anything just let me know. We have grown quite a bit since I took the list over at the beginning of the year!

I found a picture of a safari taxi online. They're everywhere in St. Thomas. You can see how large they are. It's not like riding in the back of a pickup truck to the drive-in. I would not let children sit near the "doors". They should be seated between adults, just like the tram on CC.

That actually is a deluxe model. There are actually ones which are extended bed pickup truck with benches bolted to the floor with a similiar covering.

Good luck finding one!!! In all the times we've passed through St. Thomas going to/from the airport on our way to St. John, I've NEVER seen one like the one you posted. Only the ones like I've described.
