August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

Ahoy fellow cruise member - me, my DW, and our DD will be on the cruise with you. Our DD is 14 and starts high school in the fall. We live north of the NYC in Westchester County. We frequently drive up to Boston and Salem. Our DD, loves to go to Boston once a year to the Boston AnimeCon. But her favorite spot is Salem  - she loves the shops and the comic book store in town. After she buys enough reading material, we walk over to the park by the water to spend some time reading and relaxing. Lina is a voracious reader - reads 3 to 5 books at a time. She aspires to be a writer and/or manga artist. She's not into sports but loves thrill rides.

Let us know if you think our daughters might be interested in meeting and hanging out. Our first cruise, she was shy just like the other little girl of the family we met at the first dinner. But after that, they talked as though they were sisters.

About the bus ride - I think they are pretty reliable so I wouldn't worry to much as long as you get an early start. Not sure if you considered renting a car for a day. We did that in Florida on our first cruise. Rented at the airport and dropped it off near the port where they shuttled us to the port. Something to check out.

Happy Cruising until then.

Hi,

Thank you for all the info. My DD is also not into sports and love to read, but she isn't into anime. She loves the Harry Potter series and just got into the Lord of the Rings, she was also a big fan of the Hunger Games. I would say she mostly likes Fantasy, but enjoys other genre's as well. She is also very pasionate about acting. She enjoys some thrill rides, but not all of them. She likes things that go fast and that make her dizzy, but doen't like roller coasters that go upside down or things like Tower of Terror. At times my dd will be at the Edge, the club for Tweens, but we can certainly have them email each other so they can hang out at other times. Does your daughter like arcades? Mine will sure to be visiting the acrade at times. I can send you a pm with my dd's email.

My DD will be 12-1/2 on the cruise and in the edge. It sounds like she and your DD have a lot in common - Potter, Hunger Games, reading, not into sports, doesn't like ToT even though it's her mom's favorite ride  I'm sure she would love to email and such - send me a pm and we'll get the two in touch.

She also does love drawing A LOT and does a lot of manga stuff and it's tough to get her off her computer, so if anyone else has a a tween/teen interested in email, just drop me a pm too.

Hi Teen parents
My DD is 15y. She hangs out most of the time in the kids club. She's been in Vibes on the Dream 3 times. This will be her first teen club on the Magic. last time we cruised on the Magic was 2008 when she was 11y in the tweens club. Send me a pm. My DD's not into email so much. She prefers Facebook.

Wow, this board is picking up! (And by saying that, I've probably just killed the conversation )

Welcome jg32268 and family:wave2:

Is it just me, but does there seem to be alot of tween/teen girls on this boat?

We are closing in on 120 days as well as the 4 month mark. Please concierge and plantinum level, just leave me a Palo brunch, I got to get me some more salmon mousse.

So it's almost here. Today our TA is making sure we are PIF and Thursday at midnight (technically Friday) we can start booking. Not all that much for us this time...we already have our time on the buses - just really need to book our cabana for castaway and perhaps the dessert party at EPCOT (so we can have good viewing for the fireworks) and Palo....Other than that...we're doing it on our own....It's actually the fewest amount of things we have booked ever on a DCL cruise.....good luck to everyone else booking...:cool1::cool1:

Hi again everyone - I'm a newbie on the DIS board but a long time veteran of WDW. I see some abbreviation and can easily decipher them (DH = Disney Husband, DW = Disney Wife, DD = Disney Daughter, etc) - is there somewhere around here with a list of all the abbreviations?

Also I need to post a couple more times before I can PM (private message) anyone. So please be patient - my DW and I want to find some friends for our 14 year old DD to hang out with. :dance3:

124 days to go - :woohoo:

Hi,

I'm new to posting, though not new to the boards as I often seek tips on my trips to WDW.

This August is our first Disney Cruise. It will be me, my DH, Grammy, and DD (4).

Was wondering if anyone else will be cruising with us with girls around her age and also a Princess enthusiast.

Also, does anyone have more information fish extenders and whether there is a group participating in such an activity? Sounds like fun but would like more details!

Thanks to all in advance and CANNOT wait to cruise it up!

xo

My daughter is 13 and even though they probably wouldn't be going to the same club (my dd will be in the Edge and your dd will be in the vibe), there is still a lot on the ship that they could do together. Once your able to pm, send me a pm and we can exchange our dd's email.

I've just finished booking all my excursions. Got a Palo brunch :dance3:(DCL only allows you one booking), a Palo dinner, a Cabana on Castaway Cay, the double jet ski, the teen Wild side adventure and the complimentary transportation to Magic Kingdom.
The buses leave from 6.30 am to 12.30 pm. BTW MK opens at 8am on August 30th for EMH. I suppose they'll treat as like the Disney resort guests and let us in early too.

I stayed awake to book cruise activities, and now I'm wide awake.

We booked Palo dinner. If we do brunch, it will be on our 5-night Canada in the cooler weather. Booked Wild Africa Trek @ AK, and a cabana we may or may not keep. Something told me to book it, but it it's just so much $$ for what you get. When we get a cabana on Half Moon Cay on Holland, the same cost covers lunch at their upcharge restaurant delivered right to your cabana instead of the island BBQ, and unlimited drinks, including alcohol. So on the fence still. Hmmmmmm.

So exciting that some of you are already booking activities, it makes the cruise seem much closer for me! :goodvibes

Exactly one month today until I'll be able to start booking as well, and then another eight days until booking opens for the second cruise.

AlexandNessa, it seems like we will do exactly the opposite from what you're doing Palo-wise: We only want the dinner once, but will try to get brunch on both. (Hopefully shouldn't be too difficult for this cruise, being that it has 4 sea days ...)

Totally understand about brunch. Mike and I are in the minority on that for sure. We may not even book it at all. We find it is just so much food and we overeat, putting ourselves out of commission for the day to the point we never eat dinner on a Palo brunch day.

Poor Mike knew that that Africa Trek would be early, but I have to warn him the bus leaves at 7am for that. I discovered a long time ago that "am" means AngryMike and "pm" means Pleasant Mike. After years of missing out on things that started before noon, I changed my tactic... If I see something I want to do that is in the Angry Mike hours, I slip it into a good-mood conversation very casually. Then act devastated once I "find out" it is so early.. Then he gives me a hug and says he can buck it up for a day..... Whoever said marriage was easy?!

Sadly we have had to re arrange our plans and have had to cancel our cruise. We have moved it to a dummy reservation and are now looking at cruising 2014. Hope you all have a fantastic cruise.
