August 22 2010 - WONDER

Excited to be joining you...

We are a blended family...will be myself and DD9 (our 3rd Disney Cruise...but first one on the wonder) and my boyfriend (is that a DB?) and his 2 kids...
DD16 and DS15 (their first ever cruise).

Don't have time to check out entire thread now...but is there a fish extender gift exchange going on yet...my daughter has been bugging me to ask and get involved if there is one!

Looking forward to getting to know you all better in the upcoming 5 months!

Welcome!!! I am not sure if there is a fish extender gift exchange. I don't think anyone has mentioned it on here.

Eeyore's Tailfinder (OP) had mentioned a fish extender exchange in the very first post and had begun to make a list. I haven't seen her on this thread in a while so hopefully everything is going O.K. and she will be back soon. :goodvibes If not, I guess someone else could get a list going; not sure of the proper etiquette in this situation.

Hi All! Welcome to the new cruisers joining us on the Wonder :teeth: I've updated you all on the first post now! If you want me to add any names, or your stateroom number, just let me know.

Sorry I've been AWOL for the past few months :( It's been a bit crazy with work and planning our wedding - I'm SO excited, I can't believe how close we are!

We will be in Nassau 5 months from today!

If anyone wants to go ahead and organise a Fish Extender, you are more than welcome to do so - not stepping on my toes in any way! I'll post any info you like in the first post :teeth:

How is everyone planning for their cruise?!

As everyone loves food porn, how about some Wonder food porn?! I haven't posted these anywhere yet, so really need to get them on the DCL thread too!

If there is a FE for Dummies, I definitely am going to need a copy!!

Hi all...we need to get this thread hopping! We are getting to the 3 month mark in 2 weeks!

In an effort to get to know one another better why don't we share a little more info about ourselves....hometown, occupations, number of cruises, cabin #, what excursions you are planning, if you are celebrating anything while on the cruise etc....last cruise I was on we cruised with families that were living within an hour of us! It was cool! I also cruised with a bunch of teachers (we last sailed on spring break).I will go first...below.

As far as the fish extenders go...here is a basic 411. There are metal fish mounted along side of each cabin door. I believe the original purpose of these metal fish were to have a spot for DCL to leave correspondence for the cabin. Anyway....people fashion some type of hanging bag, pocket etc...some store bought, some home-made; whatever floats your boat (pun intended!). Families/persons who are interested in doing an exchange agree to here on the board and provide cabin #s. Then it is up to each family/person involved to decide what they would like to "gift" the other families and leave as surprises in the fish extender hanging @ each involved cabin door. We have gotten tons of great stuff...magnets, christmas ornaments, candies, pens, notebooks, disney related stuff, stickers, hometown related stuff....it can be anonymous or you can sign your name...you can exchange one item on just one day or do several things spread throughout the cruise...it is whatever you decide to do! It is great fun to come back to your room and find a treat waiting for you and it is another souvenior of your trip!

So bottom line is...if seven people sign up to do it...then you become responsible for 7 sets of your "gift" and you deliver when you want to.
Who is interested? Name and cabin # is all that is needed...We are in...my
dd9 asks me periodically if the thread has organized one.

More info on me:
I am a Reading Specialist in a K-6 elementary school and my boyfriend works @ greenwich hospital in Greenwich Ct.
I live in Newburgh NY, 1 hr north of NYC, he lives in Hopewell Jct, NY
This is my 3rd disney cruise, but 1st one on the wonder. It is my boyfriend's family's 1st cruise
I am a DVC member and big WDW fan.
We are flying in the day before the cruise and staying at Country Inn and Suites the night before the cruise.
We are thinking of doing the atlantis waterpark in Nassau and parasailing in castaway cay.
I don't have my cabin number handy right now to share...but we are on the
2nd deck towards the back on the right side...sorry forget the technical nautical terms!
We are not celebrating anything special on our cruise..just VACATION!

OK...who is next?

What a small world. My husband and I as well as my mother in law and sister in law live in Washingtonville. We are not far from each other.

Here is our info:

DH and I planned this trip for our families and gave it to them as a surprise on Christmas day. They were so excited and didn't expect it at all. Our families have been through a lot the past couple years so we thought we are deserved a vacation. We will be spending some days in Disney World before the cruise at the Grand Floridian. We are looking into the Atlantis waterpark as well. I want to get a massage during the cruise. We are going to do the palo brunch. I think we are just going to relax and enjoy Castaway Cay. Our stateroom # is 8530 the Roy suite.

Me: Gina am a certified teacher Birth-6th looking for a teaching job. Not going so well in this economy. I work at a preschool right now. This will be my 3rd cruise.

DH: Jon works at Home Depot. This will be his 2nd cruise. His first one was when we went on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. He can't wait to go back.

SIL: Christine is a Vet tech. This will be her first trip to Disney World and the cruise. She is really excited. We have been planning everything together.

MIL: Peggy works at a bank. This is also her first trip to Disney World and the cruise.

My mom: Linda does medical transcription. She has been to Disney World many times and this will be her second time on the cruise.

My dad: Michael is a retired correction officer and does security on the side. Like my mother he has been to Disney World many times and this will be his second time on the cruise.

Hi everyone, I bought some material to make the FE, but the more I am thinking about it, it may be too difficult for us to do.

It will be the two of us (me and 13dd) traveling from Long Island N.Y.

We get into Orlando airport at midnight on August 2, and board the ship on the 3rd. We disembark on the 29th. We did a month on the Magic last year, and loved it.

My oldest (24dd) is joining us for one of the cruises. We have been to Disney too many times to count and we have cruised on Disney at least 15 times.

We are looking forward to shopping in Key West and I am looking forward to just relaxing.

I have to think through the whole FE thing as I would have to pack a suitcase for it. lol

I'll chime in. We live in a small town in MA. It is a little peninsula and has a great view of Boston. Our house is 5 houses from the beach/ocean which we love.

I am a special education teacher, currently working with students in grades 1 and 4. The school I teach at is less than 2 miles from our house and my 2 youngest go there as well.

DH is a 911 dispatcher. He loves it; I could never handle the crazy hours!

DS14 - My step-son is in 8th grade and after being a somewhat difficult child, has turned out to be an amazingly easy going teen. He plays hockey and runs track and loves all things sports. He also loves movies.

DS11 - In 5th grade. Loves playing and watching baseball, math and science. He is the shy one of the group and is a little nervous about the cruise. He loves to participate in activities, but doesn't like to make the first move when it comes to meeting new people. Hopefully, someone outgoing will approach him...

DD7 - In 1st grade. Loves ballet, swimming and just being a kid. The opposite of her brother, she makes friends very easily.

We are combining this cruise with our first trip to Universal. DS11 and I are huge Harry Potter fans and have read all the books and seen the movies. DS14 has seen all the movies. We can't wait!

We would love to participate in a FE exchange. But, there is a good chance that I will not have the $ to pay off this cruise until a couple weeks after it is due. So, we will probably be canceling and then rebooking. I don't mind organizing things, but don't want to commit until we know for sure that we are going. Currently, we have cabins, 6598 and 6599 I believe, but that may be changing.
