August 2022 W.I.S.H. - Accountable August

Woohoo... again for how happy my body is with the yoga. Woohoo for losing a couple pounds, which my body is also happy about. And woohoo for three good sleep reports in a row - on work nights when I get up at 6:30am no less.

And Woohoo that the great yarn drama is over. I went back to the very first yarn I bought for the hat and tried knitting with that: really liked the way it knit up but still wasn't crazy about the colors (I had ordered it on-line and sometimes its just hard to tell). So I ordered more in different colors and now I'm really happy with it. Phew.

Looking back at August I did do a lot of things, but still it feels like just yesterday that I was looking forward to what an odd month it was going to be. A couple more days of truly hot weather, then the temps drop a bit. And it is always cooler in Port Townsend because its in a different micro-climate than Seattle, so next week should actually feel autumnal - looking forward to it!

Woowhoo yesterday was the DSs first day of school and both had a good day! 7 forgot his lunch bag there (why I always have an extra or 2 at home) and 10's bus was 20 minutes late coming home. But otherwise a good day. DD starts today.

Thankful for everyone they encounter at their schools. While we all have differences and issues their teachers, aides, drivers, specialists have been great overall. Hoping that continues.

I've been looking for an easy way (as in no cooking) to add protein to my diet. Protein powders all seem to have stuff in them that have lectin, so that's not a good option. Thankfully yesterday someone randomly posted on IG that one of their favorite snacks is sourdough toast with butter and nutritional yeast sprinkled on top, which prompted me to research nutritional yeast and it sounds like a really good option, so I'm going to give it a try.

I'm also thankful for the long holiday weekend and then spending most of next week up in Port Townsend. Haven't thought about what to do over the weekend yet, but want to come up with something to celebrate the end of summer.

I'll launch a thread for September and can take the first week.

@Oneanne I eat nutritional yeast everyday and highly recommend it!! I eat a serving mixed into 2 scrambled eggs with black beans and guacamole every morning. I’m so boring LOL. But seriously love nutritional yeast and it gives food a cheesy taste!!!
Good to hear... so when you mix it in to the eggs it doesn't alter the taste - in a bad way?

7 forgot his lunch bag there (why I always have an extra or 2 at home)
My son would forget his everyday along with water bottles. They never seemed to make it back home, unless DD got evolved at school and either reminded him at the end of the day or found the ones he lost. He is no longer allowed to take the reusable water bottles or lunch boxes. It was getting too expensive. He is 16 now and we got him a new half gallon water bottle for soccer. So far so good so maybe this is the turning point. And he is doing his homework and the extra credit. This may be a whole new son.

Still haven't come up with any brilliant ideas for fun things to do during the long weekend, but I am considering painting the bathroom. I've had the paint and a new mirror for about 6 months, so it seems like it might be time.

Recap for the week:
Down -2 pounds out of the -15 goal for pre-vacation: yoga every night since starting Sunday: good sleep reports since Sunday as well. I'm really on the fence about the ADHD meds, the headaches and tummy aches haven't subsided and I feel like I'm really not getting the thing on the top of my list from them - the ability to focus and concentrate. Today and tomorrow are going to be my days to not take it, then I'll see what happens Sunday.

I tried the nutritional yeast on toast last night and it was yummy. I mixed it into my oatmeal this morning but it wasn't quite so good... I think the butter on the toast was key.

Welcome to Labor Day weekend 2022!!!

I found some fun facts about Labor Day that I wanted to share for Social Saturday ☺️

  • Labor Day is one of the busiest travel days of the year, bested only by Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and the day before Thanksgiving.
  • According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, 818 hot dogs are eaten every second from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This amounts to 7 billion hot dogs: 7 billion in just three months!
  • Waffle House, a beloved American food chain, opened their first location on Labor Day in 1955.
  • Labor Day is actually said to be the third most popular day for grilling in the U.S.
I hope everyone here enjoys their Labor Day Saturday!!!

Had a nice late lie-in this morning, I think partly because it was raining outside. Perfect knitting weather - or painting the bathroom weather. I finally admitted that the reason I haven't painted is because I didn't like the color of paint I had chosen, so I bought a new color and am now ready to go. But of course starting also means a trip to Home Goods to get new towels, shower curtain and rug. And a stop at The Container Store to update bathroom organization. I think I have officially passed the threshold where I now have more things to put things in than I have things that need putting.

I don't remember Labor Day being much of a thing as a kid, I can't picture my Dad ever cooking outside unless we were camping. The State Fair starts right around Labor Day and we did go to it regularly. I've been thinking about going this year, since they are back to the full deal, but as an adult I would go with my Brother and his family and this would be the first time without him, so I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I don't remember anything big for Labor Day when I was a kid, except that school always started the Wednesday after. So I probably spent the weekend organizing all my new supplies and trying on outfits.

I think a few times as an adult, we had DH's family over to grill out and use the pool one last time before it got too cold.

Happy Sunday!!! I hope everyone had a good day yesterday!!

In honor of self care Sunday I found a few ideas for relaxing!!

  • Use smells to help you relax (light a scented candle, use your favorite body lotion or even sit outside and inhale that freshly mowed grass smell)
  • Relax through listening (think your favorite song, podcasts or even things like whale music)
  • Relax through looking (it’s Netflix time! But this can also include looking at art, reading a book, people watching or looking at nature)
  • Relax by being creative (if you’re a hobby person this is most likely where it comes in, but maybe you could do some adult coloring, paint your toenails, play a musical instrument, crafting or even decluttering and organizing)
  • Relax by learning (we don’t often think that learning something can be relaxing, but when we learn for fun, without the traditional learning deadlines we’re used – to like exams and coursework – learning can actually be an incredibly relaxing pastime.)
