August 2015 Car Rental Rate Watch

Wow - my Dollar reservation from Aug 14 through Aug 26 went down $108 overnight! Was $326, now $218. Using AAA rate and booked LL&G car class. The rate hadn't moved at all for 3 weeks and now a massive reduction all at once. Still higher than last year, but much closer to where I want it to end up.

I was hopeful when I saw this, but I just checked and my Dollar rate for Aug12-21 more than doubled. I guess I'll stick with what I have.

Finally rates were down enough to get our rental car for 3 days Aug. 12-15. We like Alamo so are picking up and dropping off at the car care center. Used Alamo insider rate for full size $35.98 with collision insurance came to $219.

Finally! by knocking just 2 days off I got a price that was over $100 cheaper thru Alamo/Costco! AND a bigger car. I am happy and now don't need to stress over the bus!!

My rates for 8/20 - 9/1 are still much higher then when I booked. Hoping to see some movement soon, but glad I booked when they were lower.

I pretty much give up at this point, I have never seen rates this high at less than 3 weeks out.

Don't give up! Last year the best price I got was two days before we left.

Keep trying for my dates Aug 5 - 16 (2 weeks today!) and still am not getting anything close to what I already have with Alamo, Midsize SUV for $342. Lowest price now is an economy for $414

I sort of feel like it's my job to check rates every morning (& most evenings, too). I just can't accept that my rental is at it's lowest. I've paid this much for 2x rental length. I know not having a Saturday stay is killing my rate, but it's not my choice! I'm just tagging along with my sister and mom (& doing all the planning for them). Anyway, it just HAS to drop sooner or later!!! Well, I hope so anyway. But, if they don't, I'm "ok" with what I have booked. We'll still have a good time and my sis and mom will be MUCH more pleasant to be around by not having to deal with busses.

I'm going to keep checking the rates, I just can't give up... yet. Hopefully, one of us will catch a good early August price drop and we can all jump on it.

Alamo is not showing minivans anymore for my dates (aug 19-29)

My best so far is 341$ all-in with VroomVroom code and 30$ coupon. I was hoping to go below 300$ but I guess I'll just consider myself lucky that we even get a minivan!

I'm at $161, full size (standard, but ='s full at Alamo MCO) for 10 nights, so I should be happy. I can't stop looking, though!!!!

Same here. Rates are not going down at all. Getting tired of checking everyday. I have a conflicting situation with Alamo. I called a few weeks ago questioning the fee for additional drivers. I was quoted it would be $10 a day. I then had another question regarding another rental that I have. I had asked the same question a week later, and the rep told me that their is no charge for an additional driver if it's your spouse. I asked if it matter what state where the rental is. And she said no. OK, so what is correct???

I can't remember now if we booked directly with Alamo or via the Costco site but we have an additional driver for free. Maybe if you are an Alamo Insider that is a perk that they offer.

I would try and make a 'dummy' booking and it will show you what is included or look up your reservation online and check there.

Well I just called Alamo and moved my current reservation up 4 hours to 6pm, and it did not affect the rate. So, at least I still have my $229 rate, in case nothing goes down any further. It's not come anywhere close to that since I booked it.

My dates Aug 13-21 should a little inching down on Costco and Enterprise today. Double a day checks have begun lol

I know that the Costco rate includes a free additional driver, but I did not use that code. I asked if it was free because of being an Alamo Insider, but she told me that the spouse is always free regardless. I know that's true with Budget, but didn't think so with Alamo.

There were some drops at National today too. Of course not cheap, but lower than what it was. I am partial to National, so always willing to pay a little more to use them. Please it helps me keep my executive status one more year. My dates are August 1-8.

This probably doesn't help anyone renting for MCO, but I just found a rate via Costco that is about $100 cheaper than the corporate rate we get via work for a week long rental from BOS for the first week in August. I'm so thankful for this thread because it made me keep checking for lower rates, and finally, today, there they are! The Costco rate was previously much more expensive than my corporate rate, so this is a nice surprise.

Just checked the Alamo site and there is a charge for an extra driver, even your spouse. Not even free with insider any more. Only way is if its through a corporation (like Costco) that has an agreement with them. I know they are charging since I checked us in for our trip in 3 weeks and was charged $10/day plus tax. I am an Inside member and it did not make a difference.
