August 2014 Car Rental Deal Watch!

I saw that Hertz rates were way down this morning on the rentalcarmomma site. $295 total (including all taxes/fees) for an intermediate for 10 days from MCO (Aug 23 to Sept 2).

Can anyone comment on how legit rentalcarmomma is? Their Hertz rates right now are half what is being quoted anywhere else for Hertz. For my Aug 16-27 trip, rentalcarmomma is quoting Hertz at $323 all in for intermediate which is basically the KLM rate from National that I'm currently sitting with. I'm actually not thrilled with either of those rates since I've typically gotten around $200 in past years for the same time period. Still, for those who like Hertz which is normally very expensive, that site seems to have quite a deal right now.

It is definitely legit. But i discovered late yesterday that you actually CAN get those same low rates directly from hertz by using a united airlines code. I don't have the code right now but if you google it you can find it.

I keep shaving my August rate down little by little ........ :cool1:

July 31st - August 11th , 11 days total at MCO
$200. including all fees and taxes for a midsize car with Firefly .
This is using a 5% off coupon code through Car rental Savers .
PC number is 199345

Firefly has been getting mixed reviews lately but I have seen the reviews getting better so I am going to give them a shot.
For $200. ALL-IN for 11 days ........cant find anything better than that right now ! At least they are located at the terminal , and they are owned by Hertz.
Hoping it goes O.K., but I have a back-up just incase (for more $$$) .

Finally making some progress....Full size from Hertz Aug 16-31 $325 all in. Still should be able to do better but I could live with it.

Thanks to Toeknail and wolf29 for bringing up Hertz. :thumbsup2
They're typically never the cheapest so I just ignore them. But sure enough right now, they are. AAA CDP with $30 weekly coupon added (PC198494) has me down to $288 all-in for Aug 16-27. Still not happy, but that's $35 off my National KLM rate so I'm getting there. For those who might be interested in Hertz, the AAA CDP also gives you a free additional driver and free use of car seat.

Does this include taxes & fees? My insider Alamo rate rate for 8 days in August is $338 including taxes & fees. I booked it in June, 2 wks later the price went up to $450 and now staying steady.

Anyone looking to rent out of TPA, try Hotwire today. I found a significant reduction today. After seeing that I could get a midsize SUV for $24 a day through Hotwire, I went to priceline and bid $20 per day for it. My offer was accepted and now I can stop stalking rates.

Final price is $240 all-in for a midsize SUV for 8 days through Hertz.

Some rates have come down yesterday and today. Dollar city special went way up. Here's my best thus far for 8/20 - 8/28 for midsize.

National using KLM still best at 206.89 all in including insurances. Of course, KLM code is no longer being accepted.

Hertz using $25 Off PC# 113761 and CAA discount code worth 12% CDP#282 is 210.15 all in. They also have a double upgrade which might help those looking for vans or suvs which is PC# 194810. Also, if you're not a CAA/AAA member but have a VISA they have 10% off using CDP# 1244810.

Alamo coupon code: AF5365ODH (free day) plus Contract code: 7014926 (up to 20% off) is 223.44 all in.

Dollar City Special is way up and not worth noting today. It was just over $200 a few days ago though so worth watching.

Continued good luck to all and here's hoping we still see some more drops.

Yesterday, I booked with Hertz using the USAA rate (includes all sorts of coverage and a second driver) and PC 199194 for a mid size from 8/9-8/19: $296 all in

Rebooked this morning with Budget fr a midsize. USAA rate and coupon mugz007 ($40 off 10 days or more: $274 all in

Thanks for the Alamo free day code - I was waiting for one that included my dates. Alamo fees are way up from when I booked, but it let me add the code to my existing reservation rate.:thumbsup2 Now I'm down to $330 for 14 days mid size. Not as low as other years, but neither is my airfare.;)

I'm going a few days before DH so I've booked two different rentals so I can add him as a driver to the 2nd reservation.

I joined Costco at lunch yesterday so I could book with them. I saved more than the membership cost on the mini van for the 2nd week.

Then I save a bit more on the first weeks car but upgraded from standard to premium for just $20 more. Figure with 5 of us we'll be more comfy in a premium car. Then I just rechecked today and that rental is down $38.:cool1:

Weird thing is minivan is about $90 more than premium first week pick up at MCO return to CCC but 2nd week with pickup at CCC return to MCO the premium is over $100 more than minivan.

I just checked Alamo site. For my first week I can get standard for $318 or premium for $363. With Costco the rates are $197 or $218. I had booked standard a few weeks ago at about $275.

Through Alamo using Costco ID 7014627 and Coupon AF4469SDU for free day a midisize (free upgrade to fullsize with Insiders - free) is $250 inc taxes.

Thank you for these codes! I just booked at Alamo full size for 8 days in August for $249!

I just booked a minivan MCO to MCO for seven days (8/8-8/15) through Under Cover Tourist for $344.40 for Alamo. I purchased it along with One day Blizzard Beach Tickets (3 Adults, 2 children) for a total of $591. I previously booked just the car from Costco Travel for $585.

Through Alamo using Costco ID 7014627 and Coupon AF4469SDU for free day a midisize (free upgrade to fullsize with Insiders - free) is $250 inc taxes.

No Costco here. I checked BJs, which I do have, and it's $300 all in...interesting that there is such a difference between the two!

There's always tomorrow!

I'm using the Alamo code 71426 found in this message board....does anyone know if that's a Costco code? Will I have to show a Costco membership card at the Alamo rental car desk?

Got our Hertz full size from Aug 16-31 down from $325 to $310 (Fees/taxes incl) this morning!

Thanks to Toeknail and wolf29 for bringing up Hertz. :thumbsup2

Will the free additional driver show on the reservation? I made a reservation, but don't see that anywhere.
