august 2013 codes for rental cars?

I'm in 8/4 at 4:30P, out 8/11 1:00P, so I'm 7 days as opposed to your 10. Interesting mine are so high.

That's nice if you don't have to bother with the kiosk at all. Maybe just do the whole checkin the day before?

You are correct: Standard and fullsize are the same row at MCO, so don't pay for a full

Really? No need to book fullsize?
Which size do they actually put in that row the standard or the full?
I could save a whole whopping $8.xx :)

Yeah, I'm seeing the funkiness with your dates on Alamo. It seems like it's the Sunday pickup AND the Sunday dropoff and maybe the length of the rental all killing the low rate. If I move the the pickup to the 3rd, the rate stay high. If I keep the pickup on the 4th and move the drop off to the 12th, the rate stays high. Only if I move both do I see the lower rates. (Which are not as low as they were an hour ago!) Pickup on the 4th with drop off on the 13th goes low again. Even a 8/4 Noon to 8/12 6pm is low - so it seems like if you pick up on the 4th, you need a 9 day to get the lower prices.

Weird, weird, weird!

I did get $204 with National, KLM, and $30 BJ's coupon for a Mid-size, though. I'm not sure how you feel about that....

I'm not having any luck with Alamo. Our dates are 8/22 @9am - 9/2 @ 7:30pm. I'm looking to book an Alamo standard...if anyone wants to work their magic I won't complain. :thumbsup2

Weird is right! I know there's wackiness if you don't do a Saturday night stay, but I am at the end of the trip. Oh well, still some time for things to happen.

I appreciate your looking at National. Not bad...I'm in the mid $150's total with both Dollar and Enterprise now. I'll just keep looking...

The rates fluctuate by the hour. I booked Enterprise at 10:00am this morning and the same car is $44 more right now.

I have a fair rate with Budget; a good rate with Dollar and a better rate with Enterprise.......$233......$192.....$163. The reviews for all companies are mixed on Yelp.......you have to take reviews with a grain of salt.....people get pissed because the wait is too long and they write a poor review despite the fact both the car and price were OK. More people write bad reviews than good reviews.....just the nature of the beast.

Are there any reasons not to go with Enterprise or Dollar? Alamo is running $100 more than my lowest price and that makes no sense to me.

I'm getting $222.46 (was $245.62 5 minutes ago!) with Alamo and $30 Visa (AD2338FDF). The weekly rate is very good (within a couple of dollars of the weekly I got earlier today) and not a bad price for a 12 day rental.

However, earlier today, just before 2pm, I got $179.65 for a standard and now I'm getting $214.43, which is the 2nd bump up I've seen since then. So if that's the best rate you can find at the moment, I'd book it but keep checking every so often. So far today, I saw a bump down in the morning, another bump down sometime before 2pm and at least 2 bumps up since then, although nothing nearly as bad as the prices were a week ago.

If I recall correctly, there were good rates for late August into September a couple of weeks ago when early August was horrible. Things seem to have reversed this week.

OK I did get the $30 Visa code to work...I see what you mean the price is not broken out. But it still leaves me at $398 with Alamo. I will just keep checking as i am still 29 days out. I really want National or Alamo...I have never been anywhere else. I love that i pick my car...but not $100 love.....

You guys are the best...i would be so lost without this thread!

Dollar/Thrifty seems to have cut their prices by 50% today. August 14 to 22nd is coming up as 176.oo for a full size with tax through one of the more popular car rental web search tools, about 20 less than what Dollar has through their own website

My mid August, 8 day rental is now $175 for a standard size with taxes and fees through the Dollar website with a City Special. The standard car rates were cheaper than the compacts!

Ok here's my dilemma. I want to use DME as I'm a single mom and I just don't want to deal with the hassle of retrieving our checked bags OR driving to Disney from the airport. We are usually quite content to use WDW transportation, but we are staying in a Treehouse this trip, so I just think it will be better to have a car. And I'm really happy to be able to do my own grocery shopping as we will be cooking quite a bit.

So, we get in after 6PM on 8/3. I'm thinking just take DME and we have an ADR at Turf Club, so we can live without a car the first night. For pick-up on 8/4, I priced Dollar from the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista, returning a week later on the 11th after we check out. We have an evening flight and can spend the afternoon at DtD before going back to SSR for DME pick-up. Got a 15% discount, which worked out to roughly $210 for a mid-size for the week. I know I could probably get an airport rental for our full 8 day stay for a bit less, but again, I just don't want to do that.

For my situation, do you think the above scenario is our best option? Any other suggestions or ideas?

Thank you! Just saved me $50 from this mornings all time low 8/9-8/22. Fullsize $261 now. :thumbsup2

Dollar folks: City Specials are often the best prices but for Mid/Std/Full, try Promo Code 5C11M too. Sometimes it's less, sometimes more, sometimes the same.

Also, if you belong to AAA, you can look up your chapter's corporate code here http://www.dollar.com/Business/D4BMain/Corporate/AAA_CAA_CD_Numbers.aspx and manually enter it on the Corporate box. As far as I can tell, the City Special, 5C11M, and AAA Corporate code are mutually exclusive so to see City Specials, enter nothing, and then one or the other code to see the other rates separately.

I just picked up a Dollar rental for $287 for two weeks Aug 14-28 using the City Special. My Alamo rental is for $332. I just have to get over my preference for Alamo......for almost $50, I can do it!

Seems like my date of the 15th is part of the issue. If i enter the 14th my rate drops to $260 for a standard vs $300 for a mid-size.

Personally, I would just get the car at the airport and be done with the hassle. I never mind DME for going to the resort, but getting back to the airport ALWAYS seems to be a project. Just my experience though. I like having a car, it's a control thing!

Wow Alamo rates are up again for me. So glad I booked when it was $161 for a standard. Now the same car is $282.87. That's using the Insiders code and $30 Visa coupon. Dates are pick up at MCO 8/25 1 am and drop off at MCO 9/2 7 pm.

Seems reasonable. I would continue to look at the reservation you've already set up. Dollar prices have been very volatile the last few days, and your days are exactly the same as mine. I am about $60 less than you for the same days with Dollar, but I'm renting from MCO.

A few other things you could look at:
-Try Alamo (or National) from the Car Care Center (or possibly the Dolphin). If you do this, they will pick you up at your resort and take you to the CCC for your rental.
-I see that you don't want to drive from the airport, but do you have the same feelings about returning the car to the airport? If not, you could pickup at the Wyndham and return the car to MCO. Sometimes doing this messes up the prices, sometimes improves them and sometimes makes no difference.
- You might want to consider returning the car to the Wyndham the day before you leave, so you don't have to deal with it on getaway day. The catch I see here is that you would no longer have the car over a Saturday night, which can adversely affect your rate. If that's the case, price out picking it up Saturday night (although I'm not sure what the hours would be since its a remote location)

Modified my Dollar ressies again last night: For Aug 4-11, fullsize was $95.45 base/$148.96 total, midsize was base $89.64/total $142.16.

A friend of mine always uses Dollar from MCO and has never had any trouble with them at all.

The only concern is if you go through a fully automated (no cash/coin option) toll station and do not have the Sunpass.......Alamo charges $2 or so per occurrence to a max of $25 plus tolls, Dollar charges $15 per occurrence to a max of $105 plus tolls. Are there any fully automated toll stations near Orlando or between Orlando and Tampa? I am wondering if this would be a concern. I think last year the only fully automated toll stations were near Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Is this still the case?
