Wish I could help you. I had a good rate with the VroomVroom code but it's questionable so I cancelled. So far nothing else is even coming close. I expect we'll see rate drops as we get closer, and if not, I will use Priceline.

My National reservation for $251 (midsized SUV, 8 days, August 23 - 31) is the best I have been able to secure so far. This is using the KLM Flying Blue code and a coupon from the entertainment book.

I am thinking their inventory must really be going down for that time period, as mid-size SUV's aren't even an option for new reservations (they have standard and full size SUV's and minivans, but no more mid-size). And current prices are horrible.....$500+ for the aforementioned :crazy2: . Glad I locked in when I did!!

Is the end of August very busy at WDW? I was under the impression that it was not as busy as earlier in the summer as the southern states are back to school. The fact that rental car inventory is going down is starting to worry me!!!

I think its getting to be a busier time than it used to be. The fact that they did not offer free dining to the general public during this period for the first time in a while is a good indication. I think there are many northerners (like us) who enjoy a last hurrah in Orlando before our kids return to school after Labour Day. ::yes::

I will not need a rental car until the the first of 2014, but I am trying to research as this will be my first time renting a vehicle at WDW. Could someone please explain what the KLM code is and what the Entertainment book is? All the prices I look at are like $500 for a week. :confused3

The KLM Flying Blue program is free to join, and code information for that specific discount is found here:

The Entertainment Book is a coupon book that you can purchase. The books are currently $15, but include a selection of coupons and discounts (including those for car rentals):

We've been this week at Disney every year for 4 years. It's gotten busier every year. It won't be unmanageable but its nowhere near as dead as it was 3 years ago. Free dining did what it needed to do and brought the people in. So much so they didn't offer it this year to the General public. Look for Labour Day weekend to be very busy. The rest of the week was moderate to somewhat busy last year IMO.

I think the lack of inventory at some places probably reflects nothing in that category being left for that particular discount, or because the price was discounted those categories being sold out. But I don't think there will be a lack of availability across the board. It isn't that busy. The only time I've seen sell outs in multiple categories was this last February when I was going on the tail end of Presidents Week which also happened to overlap the Daytona 500. It would have to be a very busy week to reduce the inventory everywhere and the last week of August isn't there.

As others have stated...definitely not as busy as earlier in the summer, but has been getting busier as compared to past end of August trips. We've been going at this same time period for approx. 5 years now.

I've had a mini-van reserved for our upcoming 8/22-9/2 trip with National via the KLM code & Visa coupon code at $449 for about 2 months now...still havent come across anything that beats that yet. The Alamo Vroom-Vroom came close, but couldnt quite beat it.

UPDATE: Just checked Alamo Vroom Vroom and Visa coupon code again a few minutes ago, and it now beats my previous National KLM ressie - $423 for the minivan, same time period.

We also had a rental set aside with the Vroom Vroom code, but after some recent reports on this board about the code being rejected at the time of vehicle pick up, I opted to cancel that reservation this morning. The worry wasn't worth the $17 it would save me. Because I'm the type that WOULD worry from now until August ::yes:: .

If you decide stick with the Vroom Vroom code with Alamo, you will have to let us know how it goes.

Interesting...when using Alamo I never go to the counter, I always use the kiosk. I'm curious if those who had difficulties with the code went to counter or used kiosk?

The kiosk can tell you that you need to check in at a counter if there is a questionable code. Never had it happen to me personally though.

We are now a few days less than 3 months from our August vacation, and this is the lowest I have found so far:

Dates : pickup 8/6 , drop off 8/19 at MCO (13 days)
Company: National (EC member)
Codes used: KLM 8572130 (joined via the site)
BJ's NDA2324BR $30 off (we are members)
Total $409.00

It's high, and more than I desire to pay, but is also a lot lower than using no codes, or other codes. We usually rent thru Alamo, but a standard is running around $900 for the same dates right now. That's simply outrageous, IMO.

The search continues ....daily:rolleyes:

For our previous rentals (this past Christmas excluded, when we went with Budget), we didn't find that Alamo's price dropped to a favourable level until 4-6 weeks out. Then it bounced around (a little up, a little down, a spike here, a decline there) for a while right up until about a week before, when rates went up again to stay.

So you may still be lucky and secure something from Alamo. In our experience, you're just a tad bit early to grab a good price.

Hi Gina,

We have rented from Alamo for the past 3 years, and the trend you described was on the money. Two years ago, I ended up with a small SUV (Ford Escape) for 7 days at $129, while last year we reserved a "standard" (but ended up with a Cadillac) for 9 days for $159.53. The latter ressie was made on 7/19/12 - so approx 3 weeks before our trip. Last year I used my Alamo insiders account to save 10%, and a code from American Airlines for an additional $35 off. This year I have $300 budgeted for the car rental since we will be using it for 13 days, but I hope to be able to secure something for no more than $250.:goodvibes

I would happily give up our 8-day SUV rental (currently at $251 incl. taxes and fees) for a full size car if I could grab a price of $150 or less. I will be right along with you, watching Alamo like a hawk. :thumbsup2

For 3 of our car rentals the lowest price I got was at or around 6 weeks out with Alamo. All of them except this last one when Alamo didn't really come down again. However, that was for our February trip that started at the end of Presidents Week and on the weekend of the Daytona 500. They didn't have to come down. In fact they were sold out in most categories which I had never seen before.
So I'm with all of you.. I think we're still going to see drops when we get closer:)
