I have a question, my trip is 8/31-9/8 should I watch the August or September thread? Or both?
I have a question, my trip is 8/31-9/8 should I watch the August or September thread? Or both?
If it were me, I would watch both. Just to be sure I didn't miss out on a great discount. Can't hurt!
Thanks! I got a ridiculous rate on our rental this past week ($85 for 8 days full size and they gave us mustang!) I don't think I am going to beat that but I would like low 100's if possible
Wow.......that's incredible! What company? And what discount code?
Dollar rates were down today. I rebooked my 2 day rental 8/22-8/24 picking up at MCO & dropping off at PC. Was $95 now it's $83 for a compact using AAA discount from their home page. My rate includes a $19 drop fee so if you were picking & dropping off in the same location you'd probably do even better then me.
So far we haven't found anything lower than national using the KLM code from Aug 19-30. We have a rate of $360 for a fullsize
Sorry full size??? Is that an SUV?
Having gone thru this a bunch of times, including several August rentals, we're probably not going to see many dramatic changes in rates until late July. The good news is, since August is definitely quieter than June/July in Orlando, there should be some good discounts to be had.
However, my advice is to find the best rate you can get now and make a non-binding reservation. Do not prepay (Hotwire/Priceline, etc.). In general, and I've seen it happen time and time again, the rates really drop about 7-14 days before your trip starts. Of course, between now and then, keep looking and grab what you can...but cancel anything you're not going to use.
The big rate drops I mentioned seem to happen mostly to the common car classes (Compact, midsize, etc.). If you're doing anything specialty (including minivans), the rules don't always apply, so really stay vigilant.
I agree on all points. The only thing I would add is that my rental for late August last year (pretty much the same dates we're going this year) went it's lowest on the 4th of July. It only stayed that low for one day, and it dropped several times throughout the day. Even the week leading up to us leaving I checked every day and it was never that low again.
So I'd say now is the time to start checking a few times every day ,depending on when people are leaving. I don't know that a big drop will happen again at 6 weeks out but it's worth watching.
Agreed. Keep checking pretty much every day. My main point was when you get in that 7-14 day window, check several times a day. Car rentals change faster than airline fares.
Also, you can play a little game to see what your rate might go to. Since summer is relatively constant, pretend renting a car with your codes for a week or two out from now, keeping your days the same, not the dates. (By that I mean, if you're renting a car from Wednesday morning to Tuesday afternoon, simulate that, not the day of the month). Pretend your trip is in that 7-14 day range. You should see better rates than you're seeing for your actual trip. No guarantee you'll see the same rates when its really time to book, but you might get a better idea of what you'll see.
Best I have so far $165.47 Alamo midsize July 29 to Aug 4th MCO pick-up WDW car ctr drop off. Using Visa and $15 off coupon...found this by going to the Visa site as last poster recommended and when it linked to the Alamo site it had the $15 coupon on the page.
Don't know if I will find anything cheaper! Thanks!
