august 2013 codes for rental cars?

I'm still here, too, until August 31st. I have a feeling I'll be turning off the lights and locking the door on this thread. Will definitely miss it - this is one of the BEST car rental thread EVAH!!! :grouphug:

I get excited every time the Alamo rate drops and matches what we have booked. Unfortunately, it hasn't gone lower. :sad2: We would love the minivan, but at $683 (for 15days, 2 hours), it just ain't gonna happen for us! I find it strange that our minvan price never changes. Never up or down - always the same old price ($$$). Still holding the std/full for $277 and am very happy with that price.

I'm still checking at least 2x a day and hoping for a drop, but as departure day approaches, I'm becoming more focused on prepping our house for our sitter, packing, and getting out of here!

We are heading to Orlando on the 31st as well, so I'll be here to the bitter end waiting to see if we can save a few more dollars. :thumbsup2

Hi Guys!!!

We have been here in Orlando since 8/7. We ended up going with National using the compass group code and entertainment book coupon. We got a minivan for 8/7-8/21 for 605 all in.

We are enjoying our family vacation. It is soooo hot here.

So far we've been to MK, AK, sea world, Legoland, and Discovery Cove(which was absolutely amazing by the way). Tomorrow we are going to Epcot.

We are staying at Hilton Grand Vacation Club at SeaWorld. Such a great resort with lots of activities for the kiddos.

We are headed down to the pool but I just wanted to drop in and say hello!!

Gina-Gina-Bo-Bina - I'll still be lurking here until the bitter end - 8/21. Thanks to everyone's posts I was able a few weeks ago to grab a standard at Alamo, 8/22 to 9/5 for $260. Not sure if I'll do any better than that. Since I check a couple times a day, I'm going to need a new hobby when I get back.

We leave tomorrow for Seattle and pick up the rental car in MCO on Saturday, so it looks like Alamo Insider with a VISA coupon was the best rate we could get. Midsize from Aug 17 to Aug 31 (two weeks) for $250 ($17.85/day, all in). I'm happy with that.

I'll be doing online check-in and adding my wife as an additional driver later today.

Thanks for all the advice and company in this thread!

I agree.....this thread has made the car rental quest rather entertaining :thumbsup2 .

I am so happy to hear that so many of you are still around for the next while, and travelling at the end of the month like we are. It just wouldn't be the same in here without y'all!

Ah, good! I thought I might be kind of lonely, waiting out the next week by myself!!!

I was *hoping* to get my SUV rental down to $275, but I'm guessing I will have to be satisfied with my $285. DH is just happy he is with Alamo and gets to pick his vehicle, and that he got a standard SUV instead of a midsize (as the midsize had been unavailable up until last week, and when it did appear it was more expensive than the standard  ) .

I am now anxiously watching the weather. This is about the time last year that Hurricane Isaac started brewing :headache: .

Issac never touched central FL except for a day of windy rain. Don't stress, we have not had a hurricane since 2004.

lol, I know it didn't actually hit Orlando, but my heavens, that was a lot of rain and a bad hair day or two for this gal :rotfl2:. Too many weather advisories for moi, who is an admitted nervous nelly at the very best of times!!

Blizzards? Ice storms? THOSE I know how to handle. But an approaching hurricane?!? (even ones that don't actually "hit" the area)....those scare the bejeezus out of this northern girl :crazy2: .

I have put in my order with Mother Nature: sunny skies for the duration of my vacation. Doesn't hurt to ask :rolleyes2 :rotfl:.

Gina - I'll still be hawking the rates until Wednesday noon of next week. As you said, rates are way up right now, but we'll keep trying!

Threw in the towel this morning, feel pretty confident I hit the lowest rate we could get at $139.40 Alamo standard/fullsize for 8 days using Insiders and VISA coupon (booked about 10 days out). We pick up tonight around 11pm. I already did online checkin and was able to add myself as an extra driver. So we will be heading right out to the car. It was fun taking the "hunt" with you all....can't wait to start planning the next trip, its my favorite part!

August folks still remaining...I apologize if this has already been posted, but I'm seeing a "Wendie's special" on the Budget page that works for rentals starting today (I think thru the end of the year). Economy/compact at $119/wk and better yet, Intermediate SUV at $139/wk. Haven't run any dates in for MCO, but you guys might want to take a peek. You can find the link at the bottom of the main Budget page and pick which one you want. There are also some daily rates. Hope it works!

I am from New England, I know about Ice storms and Blizzards and frigid weather, Hurricanes and tornados too.
This has been a great summer here in Orlando. HOT, almost daily rain storms (very violent ones sometimes) and lots of sun. I hope the sun continues for your vacation.
I really don't worry about the weather, can't do anything about it, so, why worry? Have a great day. :)

Well, I may have already hit most lowest price (but you know I'll keep checking cuz I'm addicted!). Alamo 8 day rental using visa code and insiders member, pick up Aug 21 at MCO, drop off Aug 27 at Dolphin for $154.67!! I'm way happy with that number but one can always hope for cheaper! BTW... love Alamo but throw me some pixie dust that the kiosk will work for me this year. Last year after fiddling around with it for what seemed like forever (maybe 15 min) I still had to get in line ...grrrrr.

Hi guys,

Left for Florida yesterday and checked my rate right up until departure but it was sky high...base rate of 409 plus taxes and fees where I had 274 all in for 2 weeks std with Alamo. I did not check in online but I did go over to the kiosk while hubby waited for luggage. I forgot to grab his license to add him as an additional driver, but was able to add him with the agent as I exited the garage. There were many Impalas, a couple of Camrys and an Altima. But I spied mini van parked in the full size row! We grabbed it! It was a Dodge Caravan. The kids were very impressed with the auto closing doors...snapped a pic as the van was right under the full size sign just in case it was questioned but agent at exit said if it was parked there, it was fine to take and my rate wouldn't change. Very easy to use the kiosk as the line had at least 5 families waiting. I will continue to use Alamo as we always have a good experience.
Thanks for all the help! This is a great friendly thread!

I feel your pain!! Last year I got through the Kiosk, all was well, Then OUT OF PAPER!! had to wait in line for 30 min just for a printout that took 60 seconds...

Yay for the rental vehicle pixie dust!!! pixiedust: Here's hoping the rest of your vacation is just as magical!

My Alamo rate right now is actually matching my lowest quoted price. I'm still hoping it sneaks down some more.

What codes did you use for your price?

Just came back Monday night from a magical trip. I don't want to re-open a debate about the KLM code, but we used it with no problems. Used the Emerald Aisle and at 11:30am on Friday August 2 it was full of Chevy 200's and another car that looked similar. No vans or bigger suv's. There was one jeep patriot (small suv) in the line- I checked how the A/C worked and noted it had only 372 miles on it and we loaded it up with our stuff!
