august 2013 codes for rental cars?

The contract ID is the KLM code 8572130 .

The coupon ID is NF5594ZDP (free weekend day if you pay with your Visa card).

That will bring you to the final total of $221 for a midsize. A compact would be $212. The coupon code is not valid for an economy size car.

Let me know if you have any other issues with the reservation :) .

Oh yeah....and be sure to sign up to be an Emerald Club member, and add your membership # [/I]

OH wow Gina !!!! It worked !!! I got a Nissan Versa for $212.96!!!! I had the wrong Visa coupon code the whole time.....thank you ....thank you...you're the bestest !!!!.:worship:

PS: yes, I've been an Emerald member for years but I've rarely used National because Dollar and Budget and even Alamo usually beat their price.

I just tried to use these codes for a Sept 14th-22nd rental, but a red pop up appeared saying: Maximum rental length conflict with coupon NF5594ZDP

I thought that coupon was for a free weekend day. My rental would be for a Saturday 12N through the following Sunday 5:00PM (nine days), so includes the weekends.:confused3

I tried it too and got the same message. Our dates are 8/22 @ 9am - 9/2 @ 7:30pm.

Ok so I've been playing around this morning. The Hotwire rates are already coming down for my dates. I can get a 10 day full-size from Aug23rd to Sept 1 for 250. With Hotwire they guarantee you that your rental will be in the airport terminal (not an offsite location). However you don't get to see who it's with until you book, and you pay up front. The possible companies it can be are Alamo, Enterprise, Dollar, Hertz, National, Thrifty or SixT.

I am not a fan of prepaying a car rental this far out if I think I can get it lower, but I will go this route (or more likely Priceline "Name Your Own Price") if I get to a week out with nothing.

Just thought I would put it in here in case someone wants to get something now, or finds a great rate with their dates. Bottom line is, it's much cheaper than I am seeing anywhere else.. so there are options, and drops are coming IMO.:)

I got the coupon info from the link here:

Get a free weekend day on your next 3-5 day car rental by using National coupon code NF5594ZDP. Valid on compact thru fullsize. Expires 12/31/13. Applied at counter.

I am guessing maybe your rentals are too long to qualify.

The Entertainment Book has several different coupons that you could use, some which are $25 or $30 off. If you can get one cheap enough, it might be worth purchasing. Or, you can just hang in there until National releases its new batch of public coupons after the current ones expire at the end of July.

Thanks Gina. I think you're right.. National, Alamo and Dollar should release decent coupons in the next round that will apply to our dates. :)

wow just saved $50 ($163 for a 1 week rental) using Hotwire!! It was through Hertz. I'm stoked!

For those that have experience with Hotwire car rentals......do you find that their mini van or SUV prices are ever more favourable than booking direct? While some of the car prices definitely beat the car rental agency prices right now, my SUV rate with National is still beating Hotwire's quite significantly. I was curious as to whether Hotwire generally just gives great prices on cars as opposed to the specialty classes.

I've only done Priceline once so far and it was for a car. I think (though don't quote me on this) that when the rates get really low close to your trip date it's because they are trying to move the inventory they have left. So it's hard to predict what will still be available but for our dates I am sure there will be things in every category.
Now the trick is to see what Hotwire is offering it for at about a week out, and then do a "Name your Own Price" bid with Priceline because the blind bidding will be even cheaper than what Hotwire is offering (sometimes by a lot).

The good thing with Name Your Own Price is you can figure out your maximum price and not bid above it. So you won't go over what you want to pay.

When it gets close Gina I'd be happy to walk you through the process so you know the ins and outs. If you got something cheap that would be great and if you don't you still have your National ressie:)

Oooh, I may just take you up on that offer, pigletto :) . As you know, I love a great deal!!!

I've done a bunch of posts on why not to do Hotwire/Priceline far prior to your trip, as the rates will almost always come down. However, once you get into that 7-14 day out range, sometimes Hotwire/Priceline will beat out the other agencies, sometimes not.

That close to rental time, its fine to go with Hotwire/Priceline, but there is one risk (in addition to the inability to change anythng): convenience. While the major rental agencies are onsite at MCO, some of the Hotwire/Priceline "winners" are not. While this may not be a huge inconvenience for you, it means waiting for a van to pick you up, load your stuff, etc. And of course, you need to add time in returning the vehicle, since you'll be doing the reverse bringing it back.

Gosh.. grabbing that Standard car for the 10 days for 250 is tempting:rolleyes1.
I just don't want to lock in now and find out I could have gotten it for 200 or less, which is my "Yay! I got a good deal!" number:rolleyes1.

I'm holding out but I'm sure tempted.

The Priceline Name Your Own Price are guaranteed onsite rentals (for MCO). I just did a dummy bid. It's the same companies they gave as choices last time I rented, and they say "guaranteed onsite" and I've seen a desk for each in MCO. I wouldn't book them otherwise so I make sure.
The hotwire blind bid ones all say "onsite" and I can verify that all of them are with the exception of SixT.. last I knew, it had a shuttle. But it's listed as one of the possibilities onsite so I would be leary of that one. This is not to be confused with the regular hotwire rates where they show you the rate and the company upfront. Those are sometimes offsite companies but you will clearly see that.
Basically the strategy I've used, and seen recommended that has worked is to wait until about a week or two weeks out, see what they are going for on Hotwire and then go on Priceline with that number and start your bid at 40% less, increasing from there.
That way you are guaranteed an onsite company (the ones they just offered me were Avis, National, Alamo, Dollar, Hertz and Budget) and to pay a little less than the hotwire rate. Priceline shows you the list of companies it will come from before you bid, and guarantee them to be onsite.
