august 2013 codes for rental cars?

After pricing a few scenarios to get the best price, here is what worked for me:

Alamo (our favorite)

Aug 3-10 Pick up at MCO, Drop off at the Dolphin
I used the Visa codes from Visa website, as that is the card we use.

$170.00 for a compact.

Picking up or dropping off at the Dolphin is almost half price than if we dropped off at MCO.

I usually find a better price closer to the time, so I will continue to look.:)

That sounds pretty good. I'm glad you have something reserved. Absolutely keep looking, but the pickup one place and drop another is one that can defy logic sometimes and doesn't necessarily follow the rules I posted a few posts up. At least what you have is already pretty reasonable.

Best I have so far $165.47 Alamo midsize July 29 to Aug 4th MCO pick-up WDW car ctr drop off. Using Visa and $15 off coupon...found this by going to the Visa site as last poster recommended and when it linked to the Alamo site it had the $15 coupon on the page.

Don't know if I will find anything cheaper! Thanks!

The visa offer gets me a quote from Alamo for $667 for a midsize for two weeks Aug 14-28th. This is no deal for me!

I'm seeing similarly low rates with National for 1-week rentals with a drop-off at Dolphin or Car Care center. Add one or more days and the price jumps up a lot. (As it does with Alamo, too.)

I usually like Alamo, but the prices for my trip (in/out of MCO) is $364 using the Visa code. Tried Disney Passholder too and not much better.

My dates Aug 1-6. A rate of $364 for a 5 day rental in an ECONOMY car is not good in my book. Right now, Budget and Dollar have them beat by $100 ! So sorry Alamo...lost my business......unless a better rate pops up. I have Budget reserved for $267---still high for an economy car for 5 days.

I think maybe the Visa discount worked better for GinCar because of the Dolphin leg of the rental ? I can't do that because I'd have no way back to the airport. I am staying with my daughter who lives close to WDW so I can't rely on ME.

So disappointed in Aug car rental rates :sad2:

UPDATE: YES....I just plugged in Dolphin hotel (using Visa rate) as drop off and my rental dropped from $364 to $162 !!!!!! And this is for a MIDSIZE not an ECONOMY !?? Wonder if I can find another way to get to airport now ???? Hmmm.....

Well....2nd update......
I did a test with Alamo using VISA discount. Pick up at MCO on Aug 1. Return to DOLPHIN on Aug 6. Re-rent a car at Dolphin to get me to MCO for return flight home. TOTAL all fees using VISA discount is $262. Significantly lower than $364 using VISA with an MCO to MCO. However, sticking with Budget Rental for now since they are $267 sans the hassle of drop off/re-rent at Dolphin on Aug 6. So interesting the amount of time I have spent with countless codes and combinations ! It's like a part-time job on top of my full-time job !

It looks like the $162 number you quoted above by dropping off at the Dolphin is better than $267 with Budget. Couldn't you take a cab to the airport for less than $100?

If you use the KLM Flying Blue code (a free program to join, open to everyone) found here:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2878667

and the Visa coupon code for a free weekend day found here:

http://www.carrentalsavers.com/visa.html

you can get a midsize with National that includes extra optional insurance coverages for $221.24 taxes included. And this is dropping off and picking up at MCO. Once National releases their new round of general public coupons (current ones expire at the end of July) then you could probably improve that rate even more, as the Visa coupon saves you about $15 where the general public coupons often go up to $30 off.

Note your rate might be slightly different depending on your pick up and drop off times....I used the 12 noon default for both, based on your August 1 - 6 dates. You will want to run your exact times for a more accurate rate.

Thanks for the replies Mickeyinthehouse and Gina Gina.
I tried using the KLM partners code---my grand total MCO to MCO Aug 1-6 (10:30 am to 10:30 am) was $350 (National did upgraded me to a Chrysler vs the Ford Focus at Budget). So, I will stick with Budget for now.

Mickey....will look in to the cab idea. Never thought of that.
Thank you both :goodvibes

It looks like the $162 number you quoted above by dropping off at the Dolphin is better than $267 with Budget. Couldn't you take a cab to the airport for less than $100?

Just checked it again...today MCO to Dolphin Aug 1-6 (10:30 am to 10:00 am) with Visa discount was $177 total for an economy & compact car.

I checked two different taxi cab fare estimator sites and a drive to MCO from the Dolphin would be about $60 (includes a tip). So I did the math and the total this way would be only about $30 cheaper. It's less steps/time just keeping my Budget rental. I've worked on this for hours........$267 is the absolute best rate I got for a 5 day rental. I'm sure I didn't try EVERY code and location but I did with dozens literally. Thanks for all the suggestions ---I actually got a better deal on my airfare than on my 5 day car rental !!!

Did you see my post above, where you can get a midsized with National for $221? Picking up and dropping off at MCO?

Hi Gina...
Nothing working and I think I'm doing something wrong? Is the KLM code coupon ID ? Membership ID? Contract ID? I was assuming the Visa was the contract ID? I'm getting way higher?
Sorry for all the questions :guilty:

I don't advise that you pay for anything or lock in your price just yet for anyone going in August. Just be patient. The prices haven't dropped yet and won't likely for at least a couple of weeks. Right now my August dates show 14 days at $670 for Alamo but last year, at 4 weeks in advance, I got a full size car for $293 at Alamo for 14 nights at the end of August. For now I am just waiting...... :surfweb:

Sorry for all the questions :guilty:

The contract ID is the KLM code 8572130 .

The coupon ID is NF5594ZDP (free weekend day if you pay with your Visa card).

That will bring you to the final total of $221 for a midsize. A compact would be $212. The coupon code is not valid for an economy size car.

What company is this?

I usually wait until it's a little closer to our trip, but I was bored this evening and went to Priceline. Wound up with a Full Size from Hertz for $13 per day. We now have a Full Size for 12 days for a final total of $275! May have been able to save a buck or two by waiting, but it's nice having this checked off.
