Much as I hate to think about it, I am sure within a couple of years it will only be DH and I on vacation. DS has his sights set on a career in the air force, so I am guessing he won't be available for Florida getaways once he enlists :( . I can't imagine how weird it will be to have a totally "grown up" holiday. At Disney.....now there's an oxymoron!

Dh and I did this three years ago and it was wonderful. Very easy and relaxing days.

lol, I know it will be great fun regardless, and nice to have that couples time again :thumbsup2 (let's face it, its been a while!!) yet I have to wonder.....once its just DH and I, who will go with me on Its A Small World? :rotfl: And the Car-o-Suess-el at Islands of Adventure? :rotfl2:

BUMMER! Super excited because had this not come up I would have to wait until next summer to get to there. You should really work on getting your own IATA card ;).

I've only been doing it for a little over a year. I'll get there! :thumbsup2

Hello team August!! I've decided to start a PTR for my families trip if anyone would like to tag along! the link is in my signature!

thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone!

Only 90 days to go for us now :cool1: - cannot wait for a summer vacation!

Had quite a few questions that I wondered if anyone here might know the answers to...

We have a breakfast at ADR on our first morning at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom at 8am, but the park doesn't open until 9am.. so my questions are..

1. What time does the parking lot open? (we're staying off site so will be driving in, and want to make sure we have plenty of time to pick up our APs from the ticket booths before breakfast!)

2. Will the Garden Gate Gifts store be open at that time in the morning so that we can rent a stroller?

Thank you! :goodvibes

Hello all! I am new to this thread. It has been stressful at my house lately, so DH asked me to book a surprise trip for the family. So, we are going Aug 22-26. It is a short trip but it will be a great way to get away right before school starts.

We will be staying at POFQ this time. I have stayed there before but the rest of the family hasn't.

Now time to go read the rest of this thread.

See you real soon!!!

All Star Music Aug 10 - 12
AKV Aug 12 - 18
Off site Aug 18-19

Count me in!

We are staying August 10th-17th with a split stay at AKV and BLT.

:cool1:

Oh boy...we've moved the trip up and are now going in August from our usual late September timeframe...going to made ADRs now...

Crowd levels at a 9 according to touringplans.com?!? :scared1:

We'll be there August 3 through August 10--maybe a couple days extra...then head to the beach for a few days.

Well I would like to join in and we are booked Aug24 to Sept 3 staying at POR. This will be my like 10th trip, DH 3rd DD1 3rd and DD2 1st trip. We are going to celebrate her 6th birthday. She is so excited and since I sew things I need to make her a different princess dress for every day we are there. lol Can't wait for it to get here!!

I guess I need to start posting in here more! 102 days to go until our next trip.
Everything about it is up in the air and that is so very different for me!:worried:

Two things came into play here. One is that we bought AP's. So a trip 3 months after the last one is cheaper than it would have been normally. Plus, it is getting much harder to book a week we can all go. So when we have 10 days open in all of our schedules I am hopping on it!!

The things yet to be determined about this trip...
Resort Choice: I have a deposit on Bonnet Creek, and free dining booked at a Lion King AoA suite. I am waffling back and forth between the two daily. And I am sure you wonderful people will get to hear alllllll about it:thumbsup2:rotfl:

Travel Method: Still haven't decided between flying or driving! That decision will make itself. If I see flights that I can live with soon.. we'll fly. If the car rental rates (because we need a van) come way down we'll drive.

Food: If we are at Bonnet Creek we'll eat in the unit much more, and offsite quite a bit. It's a change but I am looking forward to all of the new choices.

However if we stay at AoA we are locked into the CS dining plan. Not as excited about that one to be honest. I am imagining the food court will be mobbed because it's new and it's free dining. Plus we have 2 vegetarians in our party and finding adequate CS food for them requires more planning than I really want to do for this trip. The advantage of the CS plan is walking into whatever place we happen to be near. I can't do that with our two veggie members without subjecting them to veggie burgers over and over.

So thanks for reading my novel. I need to firm everything up ASAP and think it will be determined by staying on budget and what kind of flight or car rental price I can snag in the next few weeks.

I think Bonnet Creek is going to win because of the space and because there will be a lot of relaxing quiet down days on this trip. It's not going to be very park intensive.

Oh and we're spending 3 days at Universal too. At least that part is confirmed:rotfl:

Thank you!!! Those that don't think we're nuts because we're going in August think we're nuts because we're not doing any of the major theme parks. Glad to hear someone else has done a similar getaway with fond memories!!

My DH and DS are water babies. They can think of nothing better than spending an entire week zipping down a waterslide or floating down the lazy river.

Gina!! I think that kind of trip sounds perfect! We are Universal and Disney AP holders this year so we will be hitting the major parks but on a reduced schedule.
I want to explore! I see us going to offsite restaurants, deal hunting at the outlets, mini golfing, swimming all afternoon etc.
Disney is fabulous but sometimes you just need a different type of trip:)

Oh and I just looked at your ticker~!! Exactly the same as ours!!!
This will be our third trip during this week of August. Yes.. it's very hot but you plan for it and are fine. If you don't plan and choose an activity that has you walking the pavement all afternoon you'll regret it. It really is manageable though or we wouldn't keep going. And the crowds?? If you've ever been at holiday times, you are going to be amazed at the low crowds during the last week of August. Not empty, but so easy and much much quieter!

It'll be okay! I've gone many, many times in the summer. This year, we are going a little later in August and just before Free Dining starts so I'm hoping for crowds a little bit lower but really, it'll be okay!! I've gone over the 4th of July even. It's really not that bad. You just have to make sure you work the FP system well and get to the important things early. You might have to stand in a different spot when you watch the fireworks or hang back at the end of the night so you're not exiting with the masses but it really is not bad!

Well, I've changed my mind again. Maybe the 4th time is a charm:scratchin. We will be stayin at the BWI Deluxe CL from 8/12-8/18. Thanks for updating me:)

Hey there, pigletto! :wave2: I was hoping to see you over here.

That is too cool that our trips fall on the same dates! We leave home on the 25th of August.....spending a day in Syracuse (shopping and DH's coveted trip to Dinosaur BBQ), then flying out the 26th  . Wish I could snag you some good flight prices via Jetblue but they are disgustingly high now. We booked for $868 (rt/direct) and same flights are now $1900+ :faint:.

We love the offsite dining, and have found a few favourites along the way. Highly recommend Chili's and TGI Fridays ... and of course, Olive Garden is a family favourite. Much as we enjoyed our meals at Disney, they certainly weren't cheap.

We are very much looking forward to comparing the January crowds and experience (which were our last two trips) to the summer/late August experience. Just have our fingers crossed for no hurricanes :worship: .
