August 2010 anyone?

We are planning a blowout Disney trip.

We have been lucky enough to plan a trip about every other year (2001, 2004, 2006 & 2008). For 2010, our DD will be entering her junior year of HS. So, with college in 2 years, we are thinking that this might be our last family trip for some time to come. Finally, my DW and I will be celebrating 20 years of marriage, and my DD will be 16. (DS says we are also celebrating him in general. -- He's got a great sense of humor.)

Our exact dates are unknown because we, like so many others, are awaiting discounts.

Our past trips have all been for 1 week. But, for this special trip, we are planning 10 days and a split stay at Poly and Animal Kingdom! DW is beyond excited, as I have never agreed to a split stay before now. I sprung the idea on her during a walk around the neighborhood, and she has been a planning force since then.

The only problem is I don't think we can just buy 1 package for the whole trip. A split stay is like 2 trips, as far as Disney is concerned. It doesn't seem to make much sense to me, as we are just trying to give Disney more of our money. Hopefully, a solution will arise.

Keeping my fingers crossed for special rates and "reasonable" :lmao: airfares.

For us, planning (and economizing) our meals is the fun part now. More details to follow.

It's good to know others are already excited about August 2010 as well!

I am thinking about the same split trip thing. We were thinking of moving from one hotel to another but hate to have to give disney more money by buying 2 packages.

Already booked for August 23rd through Sept. 1st of 2010 on a free dining bounce back deal from this past years trip! :goodvibes We will be staying at AKL for the first time, and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Yup, we started a list of where we'd like to eat as well. When we went for our first trip in May we bought the Quick Service plan. We still planned out where we were eating but we're super excited about the regular DDP and have been checking out the menus at all of the restaurants. I already know a few must dos and I will be up and ready to book them as soon as I can. I know, I know, that's still a "few" months away. It will go by so fast.

Right there with ya! Were heading down next August. Wife and I have already outlined our basic itinerary, and listed where we want to eat each day. :lmao:

At 180 plus 10, we'll be making those reservations! I am SO happy they are going back to 180. For someone like myself, who is fanatical about planning, this was great news! I also like that even though our next trip is nearly a year away, we can start planning now. Then, in six months, actually start setting things up! It just feels like I'm somehow being involved with the Disney vacation process all year. (Yeah, weird I know, but it gets me through the weeks)! :goodvibes

I'm with you on the "year-long" celebration. I know from past trips that the planning process and the making of ADRs makes the actual trip really special.

How much do we plan? My DW already printed menus of likely meals, which we chose from, totalled, and compared to the cost of the DDP. Yeah...we got the Disney flu bad!

I just booked our stay at the THV! Still have a lot of time to plan but I am so excited.

I am so glad to find other folks planning for next year!! We were at POFQ at the end of Aug beginning of September. It was hot but the crowds were nonexistent! We had such a blast we booked the bounceback offer for free dining next year. We will be checking in to Caribbean Beach on Aug. 29th:banana: We have never stayed there and my husband wanted to try something different. We booked the "preferred" location so hopefully we will be close to the food court & bus stop.

Can't wait to go back!:woohoo:

Hi! I'm new here and am hoping to go to WDW next August. I have no idea when to begin planning or what is best to do first, if I am thinking about this too soon, etc. We got our free customized maps and DVD in the mail, so we are excited to start planning!

Anyone else going next August? I notice rates for lodging dropped this year on August 9 - is that similar from year to year?

I have a million questions! Experts - what advice do you have for where I should begin? I am not completely committed to August if June or July is better!

My husband and I, our son (who will be 5) and my parents will be going. I'm known for my couponing and internet savvy shopping with promo codes, etc. We don't want to be "cheap" on our Disney trip, but stretching our dollars is always a plus!

Also, our son has food allergies to nuts and eggs, and I understand that Disney is VERY accomodating with meals.

So... who's in for August, and where do we begin? :cool1: TIA!

First and foremost you are in the right place regarding idea's for planning. You will find many tips for planning your trip. To begin June, July, and August are very, very hot months at Disney. You'll want a resort with a nice pool. You will need to cool off at some point during the day. I would recomend a moderate if your son likes water and water slides. My opinion Port Orleans Riverside is nice but French Quarter would be more suited for a five year old.

The slide is just right and the price is reasonable. Connecting rooms available. Your family may like the boat ride to Downtown Disney especially at night when it's cooler. It is romantic if the parents would say sit for the night you and your husband could head to Scat Cats - Elliot Dyson is a wonderful free entertainer (most Wed-Sat). Take a carriage ride (leaves from riverside) but does travel to French Quarter.

There is also a free entertainer at Riverside. I heard he's (believe his name is Bob) fantastic with the children. Piano player. Again free and just a boat ride away.

You'll want to shoot for free dining if offered this will save you money. Plan your days, pick your parks, and skip the hoppers. This will also save you money. I used to feel restricted but as time passes it really is the smart move. The obvious if your driving bring water, you'll need it and it's expensive in the park.

They do their best to accomidate allergies but make sure you look at this site and allears for menus. Call or go on line for ADR's. Try to call as soon as possible for reservations. Especially character...

I'll warn you August is the beginning of Hurricane Season. In 2008 my wife and I were caught in a tropical storm that sat on top of Florida for several days. This year we had perfect weather for our stay at the Inn Keepers Club at the Boardwalk.

Hard to get away from August it's our wedding anniversary.

Goodluck!

We booked Aug 21 til Aug 31st, 2010 with a free dining as a bounce-back from this year. Staying at the POP. Love the POP - we stayed there this year and absolutely loved it. This will be our 6th trip to Disney World and I can't wait to start planning. My date for dinning reservations is Feb 22nd

August 22 through Sept 1,2010 :) First time staying at POP Century. 10 days with free dinning :cool1:
I've already planned every meal. Nice to know I'm not the only one who is excited about next year!!

Its great that eveyone is so excited about their next trip. I'm looking forward to August 2010 and I still have two Disney trips to go on. I get so excited everytime I think about my trips. :cheer2:

I'm not much of a planner. I like to outline, just a general idea of what parks I'll be going to and what days I'll be going there. Sometimes I like to plan the activities I want to do at each park.:thumbsup2

In the previous years I've taken a combination of nieces and nephews (I don't have kids). But the next few trips will be solo. Hoping to do see some of the resorts as well as the parks.

:woohoo:

We're hoping for Aug 2010 also. Gonna be a busy summer for us. We are booked into a house near Old Orchard Beach in Maine from July 24-31. Then home for 2 days, and off to the world from the 3rd to the 13th. The 3rd is our 25th wedding anniversary. Then (hopefully) we will drive my DS to college in North Carolina. We're trying to decide between 2 rooms at Pop, or a single at the Poly. I love the Poly, as do my kids. DW could care less where we stay, but she is the boss, and finances (re:rates) will dictate that. We should set up a Dis calendar to find out when we can all get together ! Have fun !!

We just came back from the world on Sept 1st. Bought into the DVC Kidani Village. :cheer2: Son and I are going back on May 2-8. So far 1 night at SSR, 3 at Kidani and 2 at WLV. Hoping to do the entire stay at Kidani but if not, who cares we will be at Disney.

Just booked another stay in August from the 29th until Sept 5. Booked a 2 BR Savannah View for Mother, Son, Daughter, Grandson, Sister, Girlfriend and Myself :woohoo: No free dining but we will still do the DDP.

Me too i booked a bounceback offer with free dining for August 15 to 22nd 2010 and staying at Wilderness Lodge. August we came back from staying at Contemporary REsort which we loved. My husband originally thought this would be a once in a lifetime trip. When we left Disney he said we could go back in about 3 years. Well not even a month from our trip and we were booked for next year:cool1: yeah he is hooked!!!!!

Last year i spent alot of time on these boards and learned ALOT over the year, thank god for these boards between the tips, dining boards, etc......it was the best information I could possibly get. My vacation worked out very well and i was happy about that. Next year will be much easier since i know much more and there are certain things I will and will not have to do this next time.

AS of now i am thinking of all of the places i want to eat next trip. We wont have to do a bunch of character meals (just Chef Mickey or Ohana breakfast and that will be it). Im just counting down the days until i can book my ADRs. Hopefully i wont have to play Russian Roulette like last time. lol

We booked a bounceback from our Aug 2009 trip too.

We are doing AKL 8/22 through 9/3 and bookending the trip with a night at Pop to start and finish the trip.

All said 14 nights! We can't wait.

I'll be at the Pop from August 17-24th! Me and DH will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary, as well as his birthday!

DH hasn't been to WDW since he was 8, but he expressed an interest in the Hidden mickeys there, so for a surprise, I bought him the Hidden Mickeys guidebook and will be bringing it out when we arrive!

I also plan to pay for his "drinking around the World" trip at Epcot as an anniversary gift. I'm so excited!

We will be there too! We are booked for Aug 14-27, in a Treehouse Villa at Saratoga Springs. We are DVC members and this will be our first time visting Disneyworld, we are Disneyland veterens. We may also add on another day to the end of the trip if there is still availabilty at the 7 month mark.

So far there is only 3 of us going, myself, DH and our DS who will be 14 then, we are both in our 30's. We have plenty of room in our treehouse so others may join us but that is still to be determined.

So we have figured out the where and when, now I am taking a look at all of the food choices and trying to decide what dining plan will fit best. I statred a notebook to keep track of all the restaurants and am making a list of must eat places.

We have already decided on 10 day park hoppers with the water park option. This should give us plenty of time in the parks plus some down time too.

I've looked a little bit at airfare but I think its just too far out to make any real plans.

We are all so excited to go and I am so happy to see other people planning this far out.

We're going in August 2010 too and I'm super DUPER excited!! Be the 1st trip for my boys (7 &4).
