Which? Leaving him home, or having him watch the house?

Leaving him home! Hard for him to watch the house if he is with me. Of course, I am sure he will have a treip or 3 while I am gone. THen the neighbors can take over.

Have been busy with the Ticket Auction for the Marching Band this past week. Just got caught up with the last ten pages.

Our condolences to Bob, Mel and Family.

Marsha you don't have me on your unpaid list. I will get my stuff off this week.

We are also planning on dropping the luggage and DM and sons at port and returning the car to Budget.

Well, we are just coming to the end of our May Day bank holiday. We've had horrible weather, wet, thunderstorms and foggy. Tomorrow it will probably hot and sunny! Have a good week everyone.

Actually - I do leave my car unlocked a lot of the times- no keys in the igintion. I do bring the removeable faceplate for the radio in. I have whats referred to as a station car --- 1994 DODGE Shadow -- up to $ 44,000 miles on it! Got it last June with $ 39,000 miles on it - for $ 800 (Benita found it in the classied ads :flower: ). Runs great -

We do get a lot of walkers in our neighborhood -- since there is a nice flat mile loop around a couple of blocks.

We won't have an empty house when we go - My neice & nephew, 4 dogs & 3 cats will be there watching it. Plus the dog walker who will be coming at lunchtime will be keeping an eye on it,plus relatives will be stopping in to make sure its still standing.

We won't be leaving our house empty either. For the first time since my Mom moved out, we will be having a house and dog sitter staying there. Plus our neighbor is a hawk and doesn't miss anything.

You can walk down the main streets in our capital every day and see cars parked with keys still in the ignition and the doors unlocked.
Pam

It's a good thing the doors aren't locked if the keys are in the ignitions....that would give a whole 'nother reason to call the athorities.... ;)

Seriously though....that sounds like my parents house when I was growing up. We never locked our doors and stuff. Sadly though, it's not the case anymore (and definately not the case where I live now - we lock the door any time we leave the house).

I am leaving DH home to watch the house. Doesn't get better than that!

Something tells me that wouldn't go over too well here...."Honey, you can't go on the Ship of Fools. You have to stay home and watch the house." His anticipated response: "Screw you dear, I'M GOING!" :rotfl2:

:cat:

We are leaving the house in good paws/hands. Our DD will both be home and the Doberman and three cats will be on duty. Of course the Dobe will let anyone in, but those attack cats will get you every time.

Does anyone have any information on the concept of taking a bus along the canal while the ship is going thru? I seem to remember someone mentioning that some pages ago. :listen:

We're taking a cab from the airport to the HoJo and then the bus at 9:30 on the 20th. :cheer2:

Thanks for noticing. After you look at the spreadsheet for hours, things slip by.

You are referring to the excursion offered in the April Fools issue of the Newsletter. As of now, we are not stopping in the Panama Canal, so a bus trip like this wouldn't be possible. Sorry!

I think JGE is offering Panama Canal excursions. Here are 2 that do not require stopping...

Join us on the secret veranda on Deck 7 aft. Be sure to arrive early as we will be barricading the door so that those who have not pre-booked cannot interrupt our fun! Two exciting canal excursions will be offered:

1) Parasail the canal. We’ll strap you to our patented parasailing equipment and you will enjoy a bird’s eye view as we cruise the canal. Just remember to duck at the Centennial Bridge!

2) Ski the canal. Our tow rope will be anchored to the railing and all you need to do is step off (please watch that first step) and enjoy a thrilling descent to the canal waters. From there you will ski along as the Magic cruises through the canal.

Estelle...maybe I forgot to tell you...or you just forgot! The HoJo bus is a drive-it-yourself rental. Thats how we got the great rates. We needed one volunteer to drive it...they insisted we pick a mature driver. Anyway, since I'm organizing the trip, I told them you were next most mature and you will do the driving. Once you drop us off at the port, they ask that you return the bus as soon as possible to their bus yard. They promised me it wouldn't be too hard for you to catch a taxi from their yard back to the port

Speaking of the Panama Canal......

Adhering to Doctor's orders -- and the recommendations on the American Cancer Society for skin cancer (since I have had two bouts of it on my face and two surgeries) -- I bought one of those mega-size hats to wear in the sun both on deck during the PC day and on the beaches. I got this one at Strawbridges (a division of Hechts) and it covers my shoulders it is so big. And what attracted me to it was that the tag says "packable". It is made of a mesh-type woven cloth material (not straw) and it is bendable and collapsible. Now whether or not it will let too much sun in through the little bitty holes in the mesh, i don't know, but it will still protect me more than a bucket hat or cap. And since I took a straw one last year and had a heck of a time packing it without breaking it, this will definitely work better. :sunny:

Okay - I think I'm obessing over how much suntan lotion to bring (In addition to proper head covering).

Have one SPF 60, One SPF 30, Getting a couple of Spray on Sport - can't remember if 15 to 30, a SPF 30 Faces, lip balm etc....

How much is enough for two adults?

I will probably bring at least 3 bottles for the 3 of us. One will stay in a bag I will use to take off the ship, the other will stay in the cabin. The other is a spare in case I loose one of the other two. I'd rather bring my own than to have to buy it on the ship. I plan to buy it soon, as it seems to disapear here by July.

I also (if I can find it) plan to buy those little patch things you can put on that tell you when to reaply sunscreen. I need to do a little more research on them though. I think the ones you can buy here in the US, go based on the amount of sun, and don't know how much sunscreen is applied. Not sure though. They have some they sell in the UK that you apply the sunscreen to them, and they tell you when you're cooked. I'm really bad about remember to reapply and hoped maybe something like this would help. I thought I'd buy them and try them out during the summer, and if they seem to work well for us take them along. I don't want to be mistaken for a lobster and get eaten.

I think that all depends on the adults and as long as they are of legal age and consenting its up to them. :cool1:

Hello all...I usually lurk and just caught up from page 838 over the weekend.

We live in a small enclave west of Seattle, Washington. If any of you saw the Extreme Makeover Home Edition with the family from Kingston, Washington that is our town. It was the episode with the ferry boats crossing over from Seattle.

Anyway, we used to live in the fantasy that we lived somewhere safe and never really worried about locking anything or putting our bikes away or such. Last fall we were sound asleep at 3am and we heard the door onto our deck open. My husband groggily grabbed some pants and stepped into the kitchen and there was a man standing between our kitchen and living room. My husband yelled " Get the <insert the worst four letter expletive you can think of here> out of here!" and the person ran off.

When I think about it, I am grateful that the intruder didn't have a gun or didn't enter through the door downstairs where our sons sleep. What is really strange is that my husband sleeps through everything and we were both awake enough to hear this person come in. I have never heard my husband use that "tone" of voice before. That probably scared me more than anything else, since I never saw the intruder. Our sons slept through the whole episode including the police arriving, getting finger prints, etc. The intruder was never caught and he didn't take anything (he didn't have time to). We "hopefully" think that it was just a kid who had lost his way...not!

We now keep doors and accessible windows locked at night. We consciously do a door/window check every night before we go to bed. I guess we joined the millions of other Americans who do the same. It was nice while it lasted.

Looking forward to the cruise. Our itinerary if anyone cares:

SEA to LGB (Long Beach) August 13.
Renting van for myself, sister, four kids.
Staying near Carlsbad (North of San Diego) for 3 nights going to beach and Legoland.
Staying at Grand Californian for 3 nights.
Staying Friday night at Best Western.
Picking up husbands and returning van Friday at LGB. Taxi back.
Hotel provides shuttle to cruise ship (across street).
Cruise --- yeah!
Tiffany Van to Polynesian for two nights.
MCO to SEA on afternoon of September 5th (Labor Day).
May use Magical Express.
School begins September 7th.

I LOVE the sound of that new hat that is packable, it sounds very chic!

Hey Dcrazy - welcome! It sounds like your intruder was lost. Think the best, prepare for the worst! Glad everything turned out ok!

I'm thinking three bottles of sunscreen too - one will have to be a water baby waterproof one for us. Kathy gave me a sports one during our cruise exchange so I'll be bringing that one too, as sporty as I am these days. :smooth:

Marsha, I have to say - your marriage sounds like one I've fantasized about my whole life. Honest! Partnership with plenty of time alone - love it!

I think I got this skype thing now. Someone from work gave me her microphone. I haven't gotten a microphone with my last two computers but I remember them being standard a decade ago. I was thinking it might be nice for the kids to talk to each other? I know Victoria isn't so good at the kids thread or typing much. Feedback appreciated!
