August 20, 2005 - L.A. to Port Canaveral - Eastbound Repo Cruise - The SHIP OF FOOLS Part 2

I have a minivan reserved with Budget. We are picking it up at LAX and returning it to Long Beach. There is no one way charge. I checked the distance and it is about 6 miles from the Budget office to the cruise terminal. I am planning to call Budget directly and inquire on how to get to the terminal from their location. I would think at the least that there would be taxis available.

For a mini van from Vegas to Long Beach including drop off and taxes (No extra insurance as I have it on my own insurance plus my credit card) is approx $478 with Avis, Hertz and some other company I can't remember right now.
Thing is Invaderzim you are going to pretty well pay for 7 days anyway. Once you rent for over 3 or 4 days the weekly rate is cheaper. So if you have the vehicle you may as well use it. I like the ease of driving to my hotel and the port. Just me though.
We will be splitting that cost with my parents so it isn't too bad actually. With 5 of us in the vehicle shuttles start to get expensive.
More I look at it we'll more than likely go to Vegas.
If you see any deals on Vegas one ways let me know and I'll do the same Invaderzim.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Oh, oh, this sound good to me!!!! We need a minivan too!!! Now i gotta check the website out now. Let me know if there is a shuttle or anything...

bmwdsny- you need to first register on the site to view any pics, sorry. I posted it on Jason's site but he's not welcome on these boards any more and they are blocking links to his site. Is there somewhere I can e-mail you a link? You could pm me your e-mail if you want and I'll send you the link...Mark

I see you already sent him your info for our cruise, go to the link about the forums and join in...

bmwdsny- Yeah, not enough things to hang a pasty on for him.

I see you have kids about the same age as mine. My daughter will have just turned 13 on our cruise ( yea, another adult rate) would your daughter be interested in swapping e-mails or IM's with her?...Mark

Mark,
Your DD is more than welcome to join the Disney pals...My DD has about 6 girls on the Panama Cruise that writes to each other and getting to know one another. ages ranging 10-12...Look for my PM with my DD e mail address.

I see you are from NY!! WHY ARE WE STILL UP??? My DH is lying on the couch sleeping in the Family room while i am here in the home office on here!!! Guess, WE ARE OBSESSED!!! LOL!!!! Gotta hit the sack really soon since my DS(7) has a soccer game tomorrow morning.

NYGIANTRULE, got a ressie for a minivan from Budget...Thanks! Are you dropping off the van at the Ocean Blvd, Long beach?? there are 2 Long Beach Budget locations and i assume the Ocean Blvd is the closest to the port because of the name... Got a Minivan just under $400 including taxes for 10 days.

The only cheap rates I could find from Cleveland to LAX were on US Air. What happens if they aren't flying then and I already have tickets? This is new territory for me. We don't have any discount airlines here.

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY TO MY SWEET PRINCESS KALEIGH!!! princess:

Maybe tomorrow I can sit down with DH and make some ressies for this trip.

GRUMBO: You're right. After talking it over with my husband, we think we will keep the car until Saturday and just drive to or near the port. Maybe Budget will have a shuttle to take us to the port. I'm sure they would want to accommodate the cruise ships.
If it's $478 for a van, then it shouldn't be too bad for a car. I think I'll just budget that in and plan on the one-way rental.
BTW: Did you use a AAA discount for the rental car -- do they offer that?

BOB: Sorry, but I think I'll take our names off the list for the bus idea. If we have a car, we might as well use it.

So far, like I said earlier, the best one-way I have found by far for me is U.S. Air. A lot of people got good deals on Frontier, but we are leaving on Friday 8/12 and for some reason the prices go up. I have checked several different times that day, but it is all the same.

Have you tried doing a search on www.farechase.com? They will give you an overall picture of what several airlines have to offer.

Thanks again for all you info. It has really been helpful. I'll let you know if I see any other good deals

MAGIC UPDATE Just read on the "August 28, 2004 Who is going?" thread that the Magic docked last night at 10:30 p.m. at PC and transported all guests to WDW hotels. It is now departing from Port Everglades, but not until Monday. So those cruisers will only have a five-day cruise. The changed itineraries for both ships is as follows:

Unavoidable circumstances created by Hurricane Jeanne have brought about the need to make adjustments to our Disney Wonder and Disney Magic cruises.

Disney Wonder Three-Night Cruise, September 23, 2004
In order to avoid the effects of Hurricane Jeanne, we have extended this three-night cruise to a four-night cruise and modified the itinerary. We will now visit Cozumel, Mexico, on this voyage rather than the Bahamas. The ship will return on Monday, September 27, to Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades.

Disney Magic Seven-Night Cruise, September 25, 2004
Because Hurricane Jeanne is impacting Port Canaveral, the Disney Magic will now depart from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades on Monday, September 27, on a five-night voyage. The itinerary will be:

Monday: Depart from Port Everglades
Tuesday: Day at Sea
Wednesday: Cozumel, Mexico
Thursday: Costa Maya, Mexico
Friday: Day at Sea
Saturday: Return to Port Canaveral

Ground transportation will be provided to Fort Lauderdale from Walt Disney World and the Orlando International Airport. In addition, transportation will be provided back to Fort Lauderdale from Port Canaveral at the end of the cruise if your car is in Fort Lauderdale. Special incentives will be offered to those who choose to sail on this cruise.

Disney Wonder Four-Night Cruise, September 26, 2004
This cruise is being delayed by one day and will depart on Monday, September 27, on a three-night voyage rather than a four-night cruise, departing from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades. The cruise is still anticipated to sail to the Bahamas. However, depending on the path and impact of Hurricane Jeanne, it may be necessary to eliminate our calls to Castaway Cay and to Nassau. In this event, we will explore the potential to visit other ports or to have days at sea.

Morning All!

I was checking out the Karmel site and noticed that they offer a Tour of Hollywood, etc.

Anyone ever take such a thing? I don't want to rent a car but wouldn't mind someone else doing the driving while I look around!LOL

Any other suggestions?

bmwdsny- actually I was watching paint dry. We have new furniture coming for my sons room and I had to finish painting it before today. I was on between coats...Mark

Doing LV first then a few days in Hollywood before DL, and cruise. I plan to do Universal studios and pick up a road tour at Manns, I understand they deaprt form there regularly.

I am in two minds about driving, but currently am thinking about supershuttle to assist, any recommendations in the Burbank Hollywood area to DL?

I picked the office on Ocean Blvd. The other location was the Long Beach airport. I figure with all of us working together we will be better prepared long before others even start looking. If I wasn't so nervous about booking with US Airways I could get ready to book return flights.

Well...we're supposed to be cruising next Saturday to go to Antigua and St. Thomas. Hopefully, all the hurricanes will be gone so there aren't any problems. Those poor people down there and in the Bahamas, I don't know what they're going to do.

Reneé

I am leaving on my Disney Cruise 10/23/04:boat:. I just wonder what will be happening at that time!!!!!!!!!! I hope Castaway Cay is still there & I really hope I don't have to drive to Port Everglades.

I am going to Las Vegas in July, 2005, for my daughter's wedding :bride: :groom: so I won't be going there before the cruise but I am going to California 12/31/2004 until 01/09/2005 to visit my daughter.

I have a date with a cowboy tonight. He is picking me up at 5:30 P.M. to go to the rodeo. It should be interesting!

Hope you all have a good weekend. Back to work tomorrow. Toodles:wave2: :earsgirl: JEANNE (not the hurricane)
