August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

Ok, I am at work supposed to be doing work but I had to take a break to check-in. I finally finished reading thread 3 and 4. You have definitely been a chatty bunch. I had some posts multi-quoted but then my window closed unexpectedly so I am going off of memory now.

I remember someone asking about traffic on 95 South. Allowing 2.5 hours before your arrival time should be plenty of time barring any accidents. The only delays (sometimes) are approaching the toll for when entering DE and after crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge from MD into VA. They have been building new toll booths and sometimes traffic starts backing up for about 3 miles prior to the toll booths. There is some construction going on after you cross the bridge but it should not affect you. Also, traffic seems to slow down sometimes when the highway splits in MD at 95S and 495.

:welcome: to the new posters!

Kristin - I am sorry to read about the news regarding your mother. You and your family are in my prayers.

Jeff - Thank you for organizing the group photo and posting the email from the TA.

Jen - I love the magnets! Thank you for posting them.

Thank you!!

JUst something to think about from my experience re Dave's mum

Daves mum has had cancer of the bladder for 2 years - they said then that because of her heart she would not be able to have the bladder removed as the operation was to long. For the last two year every 3 months she was admitted and the tumor was cut away. Along with have chemo. Last june the tumor had grown so much and so fast they said the only option was to remove her bladder. That was why we were so concerned in July . Im so pleased she made it through, she is still having difficulty adjusting and eating but sh;e having good days along with the bad.

The surgeon said it was better to start treatment when she was relaxed and in a positive frame of mind as the treatment seems to work best that way.

If your mum wants to go and enjoy a vacation I think that is great and she will be better to recieve any treatment or news when she gets back.

Hope you dont mind me chipping in;):grouphug: The Dis has been a wonderful support (especially Laura who PM'd nearly every day) Over the years I have made some really good friends and am very thankful for that.:flower3:

Thank you, I will share your story with my parents!!

finally starting to think about getting ready to pack, need to print my packing list...kids are getting excited to see how close we are getting!

I've been jonesing for disney, so I'll be happy to be at my beloved AKL on the 12th!! (and the sad thing is we were just at disney last November)

anyone else NOT doing any tours in ports? we want to enjoy the ship as much as possible, though we did rent floats for Castaway Cay. our last cruise it was rainy on our CC day, so I'm hoping it will be a better experience this time! :)

Oh, and my daughter is making something for our door where it's a quiz and people can answer a new trivia question every day. we are in room 6084

We don't have anything really planned for any of the stops. We will spend time on CC but not sure if we will leave the ship in Nassau.
What a cute idea about the trivia!!

Did anyone watch the Dream pull out of port?? We just said Good-Bye to her!!

Thanks for posting this Randy! :donald:

We are renting from Avis and returning the car to PC Tuesday morning. So, if the first shuttle leaves for the port at 11am, what time should we plan on arriving at Avis (to make the 1st--or at least 2nd--shuttle)? Any idea how big the shuttle van/bus is? (We have 6 people--given that you can't drop people off at the port ahead of time, I guess we'll all be on the shuttle.)

I was told to be there no later than 10:45. They will load up everyone's luggage and then load passengers to leave at 11:00. I am guessing we will get to Avis around 10:30.

We still have the 1030-1100 arrival time, but since we are on the shuttle we will be arriving a little late.

I haven't had time to catch up with you chatty people yet this morning, but wanted to let you know that there are restaurant.com gift certificates available for Cocoa Beach restaurants and they are 50% off today. I just got one for Kelsey's. Also got one for Rusty's, but, you couldn't apply the discount to that one. If you are interested the discount code is FORK.

That is good to know, thanks!!

Hi, everyone I do not post much but really enjoy reading. I love evrything you guys are doing about the room tour, lanyards and the meeting before the cruise. I am just looking forward to all the fun on the cruise.

I wanted to pm some people but because I do not post much I was not able too.

I will be on the cruise with families and friends. A total of 30 people from New York. We have 11.

Happy cruising to all.

Welcome!! You need 10 posts to be able to send a PM. Looks like you only need 4 more!! So post away!!:goodvibes

Hey Jen,

I like this one, it kind of goes well with "Double-dippin' with the Duck" that I have posted in the past. Thanks for sharing these!

:donald:

Kinda reminds me of skinny dippin' with the duck!! I love that his little shorts have come off, I think I might have to have this one too. Thanks Jen for all the great new disigns that I haven't seen yet. The last time I really lurked in the disign thread was last year.

RE: David Doss artwork and where to find

I have purchased mine at the Art of Animation store in Downtown Disney and also the Art store at Epcot. He usually is on property once a month with even more artwork than the "stock" ones-sand pails, lunch boxes, M&M at Poly, Grand Floridian, M&M snowmen to name a few. He also has some Epcot ones and seasonal prints. The DCL prints are exclusive to the ships so I'm hoping to get both of them this trip, especially the newer one that I posted a few pages back. I've had the sand pail one for a while, actually have two of them. The older one has MGM Studios on the pail and the newer one has been updated with Hollywood Studios :)

HTH!

So...I'm traveling with 4 other families with 5 different arrival times (counting ours). Do we chance arriving all together for 11 am or have them hold off? It does sound like they started boarding earlier, since the first posts said onboard at 11:30 (but they could have been Platinum).

Our times are:
10:30-11
11-11:30
11:30-12
12-12:30
12:30-1

Talk about asking a silly question ... well here goes: anyone from the NYC area know if it is better to be on the left or the right side of the Magic when it departs from the port and passes the Statue of Liberty? I'm mulling over Kristin's bright idea of an adult getaway weekend cruising out to nowhere for 2 days next June.

Quite obviously, I'm procrastinating again with filling those packing cubes! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

We have family members that have different port arrival times, however, we are going to stick with every family's arrival time. I guess if everyone follows the new rules (even though we may not find them convenient), the boarding process may work efficiently...at least it seems things ran pretty smoothly today (Aug 2nd cruise) from what I have been reading.:thumbsup2

Ugh, tragedy!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, not really, but ugh anyway. I am ironing my stuff to pack, and found a stain in my khaki capris!! I don't really have any free time to go shopping (nor do I want to since I'm broke and don't care for the size I have to buy now LOL). Ok, sorry, back to the thread now, just had to share my disgust!!! LOL.

Does anyone have experience with the nursery hours. I booked my allotted 10 hrs. Are you usually able to get more hours at other times.
