August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

Good Evening Everyone...Back from a very loong school meeting...We had to have it tonight because of everyone on our executive board is leaving for vacation.

Rough afternoon here my mom got some upsetting news today....Eleven years ago she had breast cancer. She had her mammogram and ultrasound on Friday. They told her she was fine. As she was on the phone telling me this the place was beeping through. They wanted her back for more pictures today. Well her and my dad went back today. She has the same thing back on the other-side now. She has to wait for the surgeon to call her tomorrow to schedule the biopsy. This is excatlly what she went through before. It just stinks to get this kind of news 9 nights before we are all supposed to be leaving. Now we are not sure is the surgeon going to want/need to operate right away or start treatments before we all are supposed to go. My parents want to still go but who knows what will happen now!!:scared1::scared1:

Kristin-- I'm so sorry about this and the added stress it is adding to your lives right now. A lot of doctors I know would tell your Mother to go and have a good time. :grouphug:

hi everyone! wow, 4 threads for this cruise! we are cruising on it as well, but I haven't been around to chat with you all..was wondering if it's too late to get in on the fun? I have an 11yo dd and 13 yo ds, and it would be great if they could meet some kids to hang out with. Are you all doing a meet up on the first day?

I"m Laurie - second disney cruise, soo excited! DH is Mark, and we LOVE disney!!!! (dvc members as well)

Hi Laurie. :wave2: I had started posting awhile back and stopped. I just rejoined the group about a month ago. I have 2 DS - one is 11 and one is 15.

Hey Folks,

Eveybody is very chatty these last couple of days. Lots of last minute fun to be had. :thumbsup2

A couple of thoughts today. We don't yet have a location for our group photo for pirate night. I am waiting for suggestions from Shutters, hopefully hear something soon.

08/02 embarkation: I know we are all waiting to hear how this goes today, but the reality is cruise threads typically get quiet during the cruise. We may not have any good feedback until the trip reports kick in.

Kristin: Our thoughts are with you and your parents. :grouphug:

Have you thought about checking one of the navigators to see what characters are available at that time for pics? Everyone could meet up at a certain time???

Jen-- thanks for cleaning up the pic. I am going to work on my magnets in the next few days if someone would create the 36 hr day. :scared1: Too much to do and not enough time.

Question about the prints---- where have you guys bought these? I would love to get one for my home office. I work from home so I would see it all the time. :thumbsup2

Marsha-- thanks for posting the 2 week countdown!!!!:banana: It is getting so real!

Oh well-- break time is over. Back to work. :sad2:

Ok, I am at work supposed to be doing work but I had to take a break to check-in. I finally finished reading thread 3 and 4. You have definitely been a chatty bunch. I had some posts multi-quoted but then my window closed unexpectedly so I am going off of memory now.

I remember someone asking about traffic on 95 South. Allowing 2.5 hours before your arrival time should be plenty of time barring any accidents. The only delays (sometimes) are approaching the toll for when entering DE and after crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge from MD into VA. They have been building new toll booths and sometimes traffic starts backing up for about 3 miles prior to the toll booths. There is some construction going on after you cross the bridge but it should not affect you. Also, traffic seems to slow down sometimes when the highway splits in MD at 95S and 495.

:welcome: to the new posters!

Kristin - I am sorry to read about the news regarding your mother. You and your family are in my prayers.

Jeff - Thank you for organizing the group photo and posting the email from the TA.

Jen - I love the magnets! Thank you for posting them.

That was me!

Thanks! The regulars over on the Transportation board have been the voices of doom and gloom. Someone actually suggested we should leave at 4am to make sure we are there by 2pm (the ride is 3.5hrs) because the traffic is so bad.

I figure if we leave by 8am (we are just north of Philly), 3.5hrs is 11:30am which is 2.5 hours before the 2pm check in deadline.

Marsha, do you see any advantage taking 295 down to Lorton, VA instead of 95? Google Maps is saying there is a whopping 2 minute difference in driving time! ;)

Thanks for the traffic tips! I appreciate it!

I got a reply back from DCL about a private champagne tasting and they said no go because you have to reserve stuff a month in advance and our cruise is only 15 days away. Bummer! I think I'm going to go with the mixology instead of the champagne tasting because I really like mixed drinks and the class is a bit later so we can enjoy Nassau for a little longer. I really wanted to try Pink but I guess I can always go get a glass at the bar.

I think we'll be joining you at the mixology.

I just had a 'disney' meeting with Dh and I also put a question on the main DCL board asking what was involved in the mixology this was the reply I got

Yes, mixology is how to make some basic cocktails. We learned how to make a real margarita (no mix), mojito, basic martini (dirty, if you wish), tequila sunrise, and B52. No mixes were used for any of the drinks, they were from scratch. I loved testing the mojito with less simple syrup. And it was fun learning the proper way to muddle. It was also fun to learn how to layer a drink like the B52. Now remember that you are drinking full sizes of theses, and probably two of a many of them in less than 2 hours. On our cruise they did allow us to hang out for quite some time after and talk to the bartender.

I love mojitos and the B5s sound yummy (I googled them) I've also never tried a margatita so we both agreed that mixology would be the way to go:thumbsup2

Thanks, for telling me about your mom. Talking, to my mom right now and they want to go. My brother who is a PA wants them to cancel. My parents are going to visit with my brother on Thursday!!
JUst something to think about from my experience re Dave's mum

Daves mum has had cancer of the bladder for 2 years - they said then that because of her heart she would not be able to have the bladder removed as the operation was to long. For the last two year every 3 months she was admitted and the tumor was cut away. Along with have chemo. Last june the tumor had grown so much and so fast they said the only option was to remove her bladder. That was why we were so concerned in July . Im so pleased she made it through, she is still having difficulty adjusting and eating but sh;e having good days along with the bad.

The surgeon said it was better to start treatment when she was relaxed and in a positive frame of mind as the treatment seems to work best that way.

If your mum wants to go and enjoy a vacation I think that is great and she will be better to recieve any treatment or news when she gets back.

Hope you dont mind me chipping in;):grouphug: The Dis has been a wonderful support (especially Laura who PM'd nearly every day) Over the years I have made some really good friends and am very thankful for that.:flower3:

Here are a couple more magnets I am playing with. Just so everyone knows....I did not design any of these. They are all ones that I have found on various threads on the DIS and I just am able to do the personalizing on them. I don't have the patience to do the design work and have always appreciated all the work the designers do.

Here is the Donald one but I am playing with the words...

Just came back from shipping our boxes. We sent one down to the ship (FE gifts) and one to the resort (all the stuff for Phillip's birthday party). Hopefully, everything makes it in one piece and in plenty of time. :goodvibes

Ooh Jen-- me!! Do you want me to PM you my email address? (I can do the personalization on my end.) Thanks!!

I'm hoping to finish up the magnets tonight. :) (Most, so that I can put the magnet-maker away!)

YEAH! I am so glad that you responded! I have been in the middle of graphic work all morning and didn't go back to read everything from the conversations yesterday.

All you need to do is go to my photo sharing site and download it....

Helen - I hope that your MIL continues to do well.

Jen- thanks for posting the graphics. I can do some basic personalization using Photoshop.

Not a problem You can lose days hunting for graphics (and I often do :rotfl2:)!

I am using Photoshop as well and so it is really simple to do the personalization. I am not all that bad at editing photos a bit either but I prefer not to because it is another thing that just sucks tons of time away from the day.

Well we went and got our dollars and travellers cheques today - so I feel like we are getting closer to the holiday.
The rate wasn't too bad either £1 = $1.6 :thumbsup2

We will all be able to figure out which cabins have Dis members inside because they will all have the same magnets on them! :thumbsup2

Thanks Jen! I am downloading and Photoshopping as well! :)

Hey Jen,

I like this one, it kind of goes well with "Double-dippin' with the Duck" that I have posted in the past. Thanks for sharing these!

We are 30 mins. north & east of Philly and were planning on leaving around 7AM. Hopefully there won't be any traffic nightmares, but have a few alternate routes planned just in case. We want to get there early enough to pick up some groceries (snacks/drinks) for the trip.

I have finally stopped procrastinating and started to pack. I looked at the 5 day Navigators and now I'm confused. :confused3:confused3:confused3

Do I have it right that there is no Formal Night?

Tuesday (departure) cruise casual
Wednesday (CC) cruise casual
Thursday (At Sea) semi formal
Friday (Nassau) pirate night
Saturday (CC) cruise casual

Am I overdressing my girls to have them in dresses at dinner every night?

What is everyone doing on semi formal night? I think I might just make this our family formal night and dress everyone up a bit more. Do formal nights only happen on 7 day cruises? I seem to remember both a formal and a semi formal night on our Halloween cruise to the WC.
