August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

once again, thanks mellers!! :flower3:
we won't be at the richmond cruise meet. dh's extended family will be taking us to the terminal, however we'll try to come to diversions. we can be referred to as the brainsurge family, lol.

wow, rain?? we signed up for an all day excursion at juneau.

i hear a lot of people bring ponchos but not umbrellas. i wonder if dcl will have umbrellas for passengers to borrow.

getting exciting!! a week today we will all be on the ship!!!

This time next week (current UK time is 11pm - so Vancouver time is 3pm) I shall hopefully be meeting up with some of you guys at Diversions:banana::banana::banana:

Packing update - NOTHING in cases, cases STILL in loft:scared1: DH vows he will get the out in the morning! I am not holding out as he has said that since sunday!! :rotfl2:

However I think the house is pretty much straight so just cosmetic tidying to be done for the rest of the week, and my:laundy: basket is empty :cool1: which just menas my ironing pile isn't:sad1:

I hope that you and your family are safe and not affected by the extra-curricular activities going on over there.

I second that! 10 years ago, we were staying in Tottenham--I'm truly sorry you are all facing these difficulties.

Seems like I've been slacking on the cruise side of things compared to the rest of you! :rolleyes1

I did managed to kick that cold I picked up in less than a week  but then my parents came for a visit from the other side of the country. They drove over 6000 miles in a 40 year old hippie wagon they have had since I was 6 years old. And to add, we just had brand new floors installed in the house last week so it's been in shambles.

My parents leave on Friday, so that's when I'll start packing and making sure all my last minute things are done. It's kind of been nice being really busy up to this point though because the time has gone by super fast! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to meet everyone!!

Aby

A friend of mine is in Vancouver right now with a conference. She took this photo of the Wonder docked today.

Love the photo - I hear the horn every day, as I have it as the 'notification' sound on my phone for when I get a text:rotfl:

i too feel like i've been slacking. :guilty: i have been keeping up with the board but not really had time to post.

glad your feeling better aby! :yay: DD7 and i seem to have picked up a summertime cold: stuffy nose, drainy cough  not looking forward to airplane rides if i'm gonna be feeling like this! :headache: YUK!

we packed a few weeks ago and sent our cruise luggage (including FEs) with DGM to new england. we will be reunited with it in a few days - now if only i could remember what the heck i put in there :confused3:rotfl2:

a couple of weeks ago we were at a family reunion in missouri, and last weekend DD7 had an irish step dance competition in georgia. we will leave today for a birthday in RI/MA and then a wedding in MD. by then i will be ready to chillax BIG TIME :cool2:

mildly worried about the weather: :worried: we have ponchos, jackets and waterproof spray....but i hope just being rained on doesnt make some of our excursions harder to enjoy. i don't mind rain, but i definitely dislike having to travel too far in wet clothes :headache::mad:

countin down... :dance3:

Just a week ago I set up the horn as my phone ringer sound. I rarely get to hear the entire ring though.

Elfinjojo -- I forgot you are in the UK. Please take care! Wishing you the best!

So how many of us are taking Amtrak Sunday morning from Seattle to Vancouver? Count my family in...we will be at the Amtrak station bright and early..ugh! But the upside is we get to spend almost a full day in Vancouver:cool1:

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

We're taking the early morning train Monday. May I ask how you plan to get to the Amtrak station? Taxi?

I spoke to the hotel I am staying at - The Mayflower Park - they said it's only a 5 minute cab ride from the hotel, so that's what we will be doing.

We are taking the train on Saturday. I did some research, and while there is light rail as an option, it seems the rail station is still 5 blocks or so from the train station. With all our luggage, we will be taking a cab for sure!

It is about 5 blocks, and you have to know where you're going, or you won't find the entrance. It isn't very obvious, with all of the construction going on, but the cabbies should get you where you need to go.

Also, if you have wheelies, know that you may have to find somebody to move a car or a van--I barely squeezed through when we took Amtrak to OIT. On the plus side, they have improved their wheelchair service since I last took Amtrak--on the minus side, they still made us wheel from car to car with our luggage before finding us a seat, and large groups may not be seated together if they have a wheelie.

I am very surprised and disappointed that Amtrak doesn't have a priority service for those with mobility challenges/personal vehicles. It would speed the process for everyone. That is a shame!
