August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

Mellers-
I was going over my FE list and checking the ship map post #1194. There seems to be marked 6532 as a Pluto group room, I do not see anyone listed in that room. Did someone change rooms since that post? I don't want to miss anyone in my group. Would you mind checking your map. Thanks for all you have done to organize these groups. :)

If they aren't on the list, I made a mistake.

We just got the news that Mellers Kidlet has an A in her second semester Algebra 2 class as her final grade! We now have something else to celebrate on the cruise!:woohoo:

I too cannot believe how little time is left before we leave, and how much more it feels like I need to do! I Fed Ex'ed the box with the FE gifts to the hotel today--hoping it gets there ok :scared:

I still need to print up some magnets and get them assembled...and the packing! Oy--I am really stressing about the packing. Trying to figure out what/how much to bring is giving me serious anxiety. I really don't want to bring too much (trying to have just 1 checked bag for each of us), but am afraid if I under pack we'll be missing something critical. Ugh. Guess this is truly a 'first world' problem though! :rotfl: The shoes have me most perplexed--I think we're going to need hiking shoes for excursions, tennis shoes for around the boat, dress shoes for dinner, and maybe flip-flops for the kids for the pool. That is 14 pairs of shoes!! :scared1:

Guess I will go re-consult the packing list that Mellers posted, and go check the weather channel again for extended forecasts. Good luck to everyone else in wrapping up the last minute details!

So glad we are all feeling this anxiety, as I thought I was the only one feeling this way:scared1::scared1::scared1: Trying to laugh about it though:rotfl2:, as I'm such a planner.

I'm done with work for this week, but work five days next week. Planning on doing alot of laundry this weekend:laundy: Working on the packing list and packing up the FEs, starting to get loopy

We are so excited to get on the ship and to meet everyone, too!:jumping1: Then we can relax and have a great timeparty:

I am feeling that way too! Part of me is thankful that we do not need to travel to get to the port because it gives me more time but the other part of me just wants to go. I am person who wants to get things done early but never does until the last min.

I'm chiming in as another "where did the time go"!! Hard to believe I've been looking forward to this trip for almost 2 years now and we leave for Vancouver in exactly a week! :) So much to do, so little time!

There has been some great packing list advice here on the DIS (thanks Mellers) but I also came across this site today which might be useful to some. (It's pretty comprehensive.)

Thank you so much! This exam had instant score results, and your good wishes must have done the trick because she passed the CLEP (College Level Examination Program) test!

This is the equivalent of College Algebra in the states, and she's just starting 10th grade next year! Mom is crazy with pride. :cheer2:

I am to lazy to look through the whole thread. where is mellers packing list???

From a Pacific Northwesterner, here is my packing list:

I'm planning to do laundry twice during the cruise

3 pairs fairly decent-looking slacks
3 short-sleeved polo shirts
1 sweater or polar fleece turtleneck
3-in-1 jackets (http://www.landsend.com/pp/SportSqu...=::IVO&CM_MERCH=search-_-3+in+1&origin=search is an example)
warm gloves
1 pair lightweight pajamas
1 pair flannel pajamas
1 swimsuit
4 pairs socks
(I'm wearing black tennis shoes--I can't wear dress shoes for very long)
Dress shoes for formal and semi-formal night
Pantsuit (for me), Dress (for DD), and DH is renting a tux for Formal and Semi-Formal night (sorry, we're going to be outre and wear the same thing both nights)
Nice shoes for formal and semi-formal night

My daughter is also packing exercise clothes

Here's the reasoning:

90 degrees (it does happen in Vancouver sometimes): Short sleeve shirts and slacks, the swimsuit for my water exercises.

50 degrees--I can wear the jacket with the liner zipped out, and the short sleeve shirt with the sweater or turtleneck

20 degrees--I can wear the flannel pajamas under the slacks and turtleneck (a Seattle trick a friend taught me), zip in the liner, wear the 3-in-1 and the gloves and be comfortable.

For babies and young children, you want polar fleece on top with lightweight clothes underneath.

Here it is! (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=40826974&postcount=447)
and here is a more recent (but very similar) version: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=41851604&postcount=1014

:banana::banana:Happy packing everyone!:banana::banana:

:woohoo::yay:We're almost there!:yay::woohoo:

Whoo hoo! :thumbsup2 Congrats again! :)

Congratulations! I have NO idea if it works the same way as it did in 1975 when I was starting college, but I took the CLEP tests then to test out of college courses. By doing it through the CLEP program, I got 12 college credits towards my degree without having to take the classes. That was a money saver and alllowed me to take other classes that I was more interested in. Can your daughter get college credit for her achievement?

As for the cruise, I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. I am unemployed but I'm still looking at the time line and thinking about how much I have left to do before we leave on the 12th for our trip to Seattle/cruise! Ack! I am on driving duty next week to take and get my niece from band camp each day (that's about 3 hours on the road each day). Also getting my mom ready to come home from rehab for her knee replacement so there are home visits, shopping for her, etc. before she comes home next Thursday. And I want to sneak in a day to the State Fair. I think we need to start thinking about what we are packing, too... I tend to overpack so this will be a huge challenge for me.

Well a little progress has been made now since my last post - My FE's are almost all packed up - just need to finish the labels and one last item for each gift bag to go in and then I can seal them up and they are ready to pack!

We shopped for Holly's sparkly silver shoes to go with her formal dress - she has her first set of heels:scared1: she is only 9, but I gave in as they are for special wear only. LOL she has been tottering around the house in them today to get used to them - they are only an inch or so high but from never having worn heels before, she is going to have to get used to them.

I stood and did a marathon Ironing session yesterday of the regular laundry and put aside the things I want to pack - the cases are coming out of the loft tomorrow as are the big coats and walking shoes that we bought especially!:woohoo:

I have made a list of all the chores I need to attend to this week, including a hair cut for both kids, as their back to school cuts - we get back from the trip the weekend before they go back and there will be enough for us to deal with without a trip to the salon/barbers too.

Well being here isn't getting all the other things on my list done - DS((Evan) needs to work on his scrapbook for school - he starts a new year group in September and has been asked by his teacher to keep a scrapbook of the fun things he does over the summer break - today he needs to write up about a trip to the seasdie that we had the other day - just a day trip with fun on the pier, playing on rides and with the slot machines and then fish and chips on the beach(don't know what you all may or may not know about british seaside resorts). I guess I best get off here and help him get on with it. We plan to being it along so that he can add to it with all the fab things he will experience whilst on the cruise!

Yes! It still works the same way--at two out of three of her top three colleges, she gets a required credit out of the way, and at the the third, it gives her elective credits. Thanks for the congratulations! (and thanks to all who sent good wishes.

At this time next week, I will be nestled in at the Vancouver hotel, waking up and considering what we will do that day. It will be only 2 more days before we sail! :boat:

Good Morning

At this time next week I will be getting ready to take Brooklyn to get her first pedi, then off to celebrate a friends birthday and to another party for my aunt. Hopefully there will be some packing that will get done as well.

Looking forward to meeting you all in 9 more days :cool1:

Nicole

Well I am packed with the exception of 1 pair of jeans which still needs to be worn and rewashed. Now there are only 4 other people in this house and 2 others in another house that need to pack. FE gifts are DONE!!! Just need everyone else to pack so I can see where they fit, LOL. This time next week, we will be on the train from Seattle to Vancouver!!!
