August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

Just because I was curious, I went to check out availability for the Alaska cruises in August. All of the August cruises except Aug. 30th are sold out! I hope that means that DCL will be continuing the Alaska itineraries in the future. Although July still has a bunch of availability...

I hope we are just the first of many! :boat:

Me too! It is SOOO nice to have a Disney vacation within driving distance!

Hi Mellers ... it seems that the "Canadian lingo thing" may be more provincial thing. :confused3:goodvibes

In Ontario a Farmer's Market is definitely not a grocery store ... they are basically large "roadside stands" (sometimes located in a building) where local farmers can sell fresh produce, baking, etc. Also, in Ontario anyway, we use bacon for "crispy fried" and back bacon or Canadian bacon for the ham-like kind. So thanks for pointing out that this may not be typical across the country in Brititsh Columbia.

I guess a good rule of thumb is to always ask if you are not sure. Along with ice tea another food issue I sometimes face is with rye bread. I can't stand caraway seeds and since we can buy plain rye or caraway rye at our local grocery stores (supermarkets), I assume that when I see "rye bread" on a menu it means the "caraway-seed-free" kind - not always the case.

Huh--it must be a BC thing--in both Vancouver and Victoria (as well as the US), a "Farmer's Market" is just as you describe, but in Vancouver and Victoria, a "Farm Market" is a different thing altogether--it's a small grocery store--not as big as a supermarket, but totally dedicated to groceries and generally much larger than a convenience store. They usually have all sorts of groceries, including flour and baking supplies, unlike a farmer's market, which generally has farm produce and home baked goods.

Some places I've seen call Canadian bacon "back bacon",. but some I've eaten at call it "bacon". I noticed that when we eat at White Spot, they call crispy bacon "crispy side bacon"--it must be provincial, not Canada-wide.

Still--that's very good to know. I've only been to British Columbia in Canada, so I assumed (incorrectly, it seems) that this was true in the whole of Canada. Thank you for pointing it out (also, thank you for letting us know about the rye bread--my father loves rye bread, but he also loves caraway seeds!) :goodvibes

This would be long enough before the cruise that it would likely be to hard to do, but I thought I would post that the Experience Music Project and the Science Fiction Museum are offering two camps for 8-12th graders:

Rock Photography
and Science Fiction Writing

Don't know if they'd be of interest to anyone, but I thought I would throw them out there.

Also, while you cannot participate in the Teen Tix program if you don't live in King County, WA, it can give you an idea of local events for teens in Seattle:

The kids started a conversation about everyone's favorite Disney characters--I thought it might be fun if we adults (I use that term loosely, in my case :rotfl2: ) did the same:

My favorite charactes are:

Mulan, because she understands the importance of family, but also knows when it's time to break tradition because it is the wise thing to do. Also, she knows how important it is to be herself, even if it means "breaking the mold".

Meriwether, Flora and Fauna, for their loving devotion to a child, and their hard work in saving her from a terrible fate.

Mary Poppins, because she is practically perfect in every way! I also love Goofy, because he is so ernest. And Aurora and Belle. :) Actually I could keep listing...

The entire cast of The Lion King for me - although for some reason - I think I favor Scar - he's just so bad :goodvibes

My husband isn't sure who his favorite is. He isn't a huge Disney movie fan  but he really enjoyed our trip to Disney World so he is looking forward to cruising with them.

I really want him to figure out his favorite so I can decorate our door for the both of us. :lovestruc

My DH's favorite Disney character is the Walt Disney World Origami Paper-Folder--and he was wondering if there are any other paper folders out there?

Your hubby will likely get a kick out of part of my FE gift then...I won't say any more though or it will ruin the surprise! :goodvibes

Has anyone ever been kayaking in cold water areas?
We've kayaked several times before, but always in warm tropical places. I'm wondering if it's more difficult in cold water areas due to the layer of clothing and the skirt that go's over the kayak to keep you dry. :confused3
