August 12, 2012 5 day Canada from NY

I see some of you have started exploring excursions, as have we! We are definitely planning on booking the Garden Tea Party w/ characters in NB. I am super excited about this one!!!!!

I booked car rentals for each port so I don't think we will do DCL excursions ( but I said that for last cruise and ended up doing all DCL ). Number 1 on my list is showing the girls the flower pots on the Bay of Fundy, and that appears further than I first thought so the DCL excursion may be the way to go.

Hi folks. We're on the August 12, 2012 trip on the Magic. First time on a Disney cruise! We're traveling with my parents and my sister and her family. Can someone give me a quick lesson on the acronyms? DH, DD, etc.?

We're from North Jersey and are going to celebrate my parent's 50th anniversary. Looking forward to meeting you all and finding out lots of secrets about the Magic!

Also, where do I get those cool graphics some of you have at the bottom of your posts?

We are also booked for August 12th Magic to Canada. 1st time cruise for us ALL (me, DH, DD's 10, 9, 5, DS, 7)! Been reading your posts- looking forward to meeting you all. I haven't been able to find the excursions yet- where are you finding them? We can't book until May 29th, right? Would love any/all info you pros have for the "rookies" :yay:

Hi tpan. I found some information at Disney Cruise's website. I tried to post the link but, because I haven't posted 10 times yet, I'm unable. Go to the Disney Cruise website. Click on "cruises and destinations", click on "Canada and New England", click on "Canada & New England Coast Ports of Call", click on the port name and then click on Port Adventures. Not sure when you can start registering for the excursions.

Thanks, allisue- found it! The excursions look great. Even more excited- if that's possible. Dh=dear husband, dd=dear daughter, ds=son etc...
as for the icons- the simple ones are on the side of my screen as I write this. The fancy ones, I couldn't say where they come from.:thumbsup2

My girls (DD 10 & DD 8) are sooooo excited about the fish extenders. My little one has donated her leftover Valentines Disney princess stickers to the cause. Seems the FEs on eBay are a little high ($30 or so) so we may try to make our own. I'm sure I'll send up spending more on supplies and time. Is it August yet?

Hi there! Welcome to the group. I don't think there is a fish extender group for this cruise yet. We can see who might be interested in doing one. I'm still debating if I would like to participate in one this time (if there even is one). Who out there is intersted in a fish extender exchange?

Cheryl - just wondering - why wouldn't you? Is it a hassle? We're first time Disney cruisers and are very interested.

I wouldn't say it is a hassle, I liked putting together gifts for everyone and passing them out. What I didn't like was that it made me feel wasteful since a lot of the things, especially for the kids, are trinkets like you get at birthday parties. Don't get me wrong the kids loved getting them but in the end I threw out a huge bag of the stuff and it felt so wasteful. However, my kids (and more so my husband) will probably be super upset if there is a fish extender group and I don't join. Still someone would have to head it up and keep track of who is participating so we'll have to wait and see if someone wants to do that. On the cruises less than 7 days the fish extenders are much less common.

I'd be interested doing the fish extender. If there are others interested, I'd be happy to gather the list & spreadsheet it all out for us.

I do agree with you though CherylA about the waste. We received a fair quantity of party-store type kids trinkets & penny candy that we had no use for and really weren't worth trying to find space to pack up and bring home. I felt terrible that people were nice enough to give them but, for us, they didn't have much useful purpose or meaning, so why haul them home? We bagged up all the candy & left it for the crew and tossed the trinkets out.

What we did make room for were items that had some meaning about our fellow cruisers hometowns (i.e.-we received some candy & liquor, etc. made in their locale with a note explaining the signficance and some postcards & magnets from their home cities, etc.) and things that were specific to the cruise itself (i.e.-some crafty folks gave magnets and photo holders with the cruise info on them).

So, I guess my thoughts on FE are that it's nice to participate and receive surprises, and they don't have to be expensive or elaborate item, but it's really nice when the items have some heart & meaning to them or are consumable while on the cruise.

The fish extender swap was fun on the Med Cruise. We actually used some of the things in the scrapbook for that trip. I'm not sure I would participate this time. We don't have little kids any more and I don't really have time. It's definitely a fun thing to do with kids.

I am also willing to keep the FE list. I am in chage of the list for our Fantasy cruise in April and already have a spreadsheet set up.

My kiddos are SO excited about the FE. Trinkets or not, it's just fun Disney magical Pixie Dust to find goodies, no matter what they are!

We are definitely interested in participating.

Also, is anyone interested in a FB group - I can set one up? We have one for our April cruise and it's SUPER active - over 100 people. We have already had some GTG's, people have linked reservations, lots of friendships being formed and tips being shared.

We will definately be interested in participating in the FE. Never did it before so some instructions would be helpful. Do we get a list of cabin numbers for participants? Do we give once or repeatedly?

VERY interested in a Facebook group. If one is created PLEASE let us know. Thanks!! Sooooooooo excited for our first Disney cruise!!!

I will try to set up a fb group this weekend and post a link here. With the FE, you get a list of participants, who is in the families, their stateroom... You leave little gifts in their holder and receive the same.

I assume no one in my April group will look here, but we are doing for women Minnie tissue holders, men nips with custom pirate label and a set of homemade coasters (sewn). Older kids get a Disney aluminum water bottle (Disney store clearance), younger kids Disney silly bands, and I made appliquéd shirts for the littlest ones... Just an idea of what to expect :o)

Wow, you are off the charts with your FE creativity...love your ideas; I'm sure your fellow cruisers will be blown away :thumbsup2

I'd be very much interested in a Facebook group! What a great idea!

FB group.... so far there is nothing but a blank group. I will try and add as we go along. Our group now has all sorts of pictures, chatting, planned meets, people have linked reservations etc. It's been a lot of fun and nice to "meet" people already! We have actually already met some people! I hope this link works!

Hi we booked a few weeks ago and I just found this message board. My husband, myself and my son age 12 will be on this cruise. We have three other college, graduate school aged children that may or may not be coming with us depending on their schedules. I have always wanted to do a disney cruise and I am so excited I cannot stand it. We cruised before with Carnival but I had heard Disney is so much better. We live in central NJ so it was a no brainer.

I would be interested in the fish extender program if someone explained it to me.

Hi Disney52303. I've sent a request to be added to the Facebook page. Can you add me? Thanks!!!!!
