Hey folks! I somehow missed this thread, couldn't find it till now!!!

I am in again! July was my first month and I count it as a huge success!!! Only went over by about $20 and that was with a weekend in NYC and a week's vacation!

So this month I have our quarterly water bill due so my budget is smaller. Put $500 in savings already and hoping to keep my total spending under $700 for groceries, etc. Also hoping for 12 no buy days.

Good luck everyone!!

Hi lori! Nice to see you back. Sunnie, I see you are doing more tests. Hugs. Hoping for the all the best for you.

You are such a sweetheart to ask, thank you.:goodvibes Have an appointment with a surgeon on 8/25 and am facing major surgery. This would mean an 8 week recovery. Thank Gawd I opted for short and long term disability through my hospital insurance! Maybe the surgeon will have a good alternative!

Sorry to hear that, hope all goes well. I know from my surgeries that while knowing you need surgery is awful, one you have it and recover you feel a lot better. Hope that is the case for you.

And Tiggerish, hope your mom is doing better.

I am happy to be back for the whole month after missing half of July! I am scaling back my goal since I want to do things (while inexpensive, not free) with the kids before they go back to school. I will try for 10 but won't be too upset if I don't reach it as long as I am good at keeping the costs down.

August 1-$0 :woohoo:
August 2-$0 :yay: I needed a break from the kids tonight and hubby said let's go out for a banana split (we have been talking about how I have had many ice creams in my life but never a banana split.) So we were going to go but then I remembered I had my coupon from Coldstone for my free b-day ice cream, plus it was raining out so we went for the free ice cream and will have a banana split later in the week on a nicer day.
August 3- $157 Groceries :scared1: We had NOTHING in the house. Plus $15 at the bread outlet. $1 Redbox for the kids, it was so hot today I wanted to stay in. I know that is awful, but it is the truth. $15 Japanese snacks for DD15 and her friends for their anime convention this weekend. (Somehow I am the only mom who ever buys it. ) $35 Home Depot yard/driveway stuff. $7 DH and I went out and shared a banana split. It was yummy! TRYING for a $0 day tomorrow. We have plans with friends but I think I may be able to pull it off. We are going to the free kids movie then lunch at Chuck E Cheese but I have coupons for free pizza and tokens so I may be able to pull it off. Course their salad bar calls me, it is so good, but I am going to try to resist!

OK so still not so hot today. I will say that I am more aware of what I am spending and I am getting :scared1:. I got on the kids for not eating before we left the house and told them IF we get fast food again in a pinch they are getting the VALUE menu. ($17.15 Wendy's) I also have a teeny tiny little washer drier in our apt and have been using the fluff and fold service lately... had to pick that up today ($75.75) and I was like "Ok, we are keeping up on the laundry because this is ridiculous." I also bought laundry detergent ($10.53) and a compass/erasers for my son ($4.33) YIKES! :scared1:

I WILL have a no spend day tomorrow if it kills me!!!!

I have found it takes about three months to calibrate your budget once you start tracking your spending. Even now I have some months that are horrible! (Like last month....Thank God for the emergency fund! :headache:)

I would also be LIVID! :furious: Is there any legal recourse you have with this, including the child support non-payment issue?

One thing you could do for this month, since it's starting off so rough, would be to track each week independently of each other, and compare them at the end of the month and total it up. At least you can get a mental fresh start each Sunday. I know week to week would not work for me every month, but if my month started like that I would sure do it for that month! I would try to beat the total from the prior week.

Thanks! I figured I should just track to get an idea of what I spend. I am already scared and yesterday didn't help! LOL!

I am going into the courthouse this week because the issue is that the judge did not list our property agreement in our divorce decree it is only in the seperation agreement ... so if I can get them to correct that I may be able to get my money back ... and yes .. I need to file for support enforcement!

I figured I will just try to make next week better ... or make the 2nd half of the month beat the first ... thanks for the idea!!
