I'm in again guys! I think that joining the July thread had a positive effect on my spending habits, so I'm hoping this will continue and I think I'll do better this month without any gymbucks to spend or Target sales I need to stop!

My goal for last month was 12, and I wound up with 17 no spend days! For August, I'm setting a goal of 14 no spend days. I'm off to a good start, and calling today early since there are no plans for shopping (will amend if I actually spend anything).

ok, I'm in....I did really well in June but I don't know what happened to July. I'm going to aim for 12 no spend days. Hopefully, this will put me back on track for saving for our Spetember 2011 trip!

8/1 - $11 Gymboree; $50 Target; $4 DD; $11 Subway; $5.50 AA; $10 Wegmans
8/2 - $0

I am happy to be back for the whole month after missing half of July! I am scaling back my goal since I want to do things (while inexpensive, not free) with the kids before they go back to school. I will try for 10 but won't be too upset if I don't reach it as long as I am good at keeping the costs down.

August 1-$0 :woohoo:
August 2-$0 :yay: I needed a break from the kids tonight and hubby said let's go out for a banana split (we have been talking about how I have had many ice creams in my life but never a banana split.) So we were going to go but then I remembered I had my coupon from Coldstone for my free b-day ice cream, plus it was raining out so we went for the free ice cream and will have a banana split later in the week on a nicer day.

Today was HORRIBLE! I had to go to the MVA to renew my tags and because my ex-husbands name was still on the title and he had an insurance violation on another car ... his insurance violation had to be taken care of before I could get my tags! He is a looser who does not even pay child support so I had no choice but to pay his $598 fine. Yes $598 I argued with EVERY supervisor in the place but no go. "He is still listed on the car so he cannot sign it over to you until he takes care of what he owes."

I was LIVID. Thank god I had the money or I would be without a vehicle right now. A single mom with no vehicle. Lovely.

Don't ya love our government???

Then on top of that I had to pay $180 for tag renewal and another $50 to get the title tranfered into just my name.

So today was a BUDGET BUSTER. But not my fault. So deep breath and keep going.

After lurking for a while, I am going to give this a try this month. We've paid a few things off this summer and trying to keep spending down so we can pay more off and hopefully go to WDW next fall.

I am going for 15 no buy days this month.]

8/1 $5-snacks
8/2 $0

We are going to give this a try this month - we're going to sit down and talk about our expectations tomorrow - so wish us luck! We really want to start putting more money in savings every month - to 'build up' our reserve fund. We can afford it - we just have to watch out wallets! :)

Today was a no spend, it was the first day I worked from home - yippeee!

I also refrained from buying the kiddo yet another pair of crocs. That right there is a miracle lol

August 1-$0 :woohoo: Good Start. Can I just share what a great day! We had a mom from my DD11's Girl Scout troop (which I have been the leader of since they were 5) offer to have the girls all over for a picnic and pool party. We just ended being an official troop though still plan on getting together here and there. Anyway, turned out to be a thank you party for me that the moms all organized! They presented me with an amazing scrapbook that they had made as a group one evening (my DH said he was taking DD to dinner, never thought anything of it cause he does that with them one on one often.) It had events all through the last 6 years and the girls wrote things about them and about me. It was so nice. I have been a leader for 11 years for 3 troops with no assistants so it was nice not only to be given such a nice gift but to see that the girls really appreciated it. Anyway, just got home but was smart and put dinner in the crock pot so I didn't have to think about that tonight either.

:goodvibes That was so sweet!

I tried this once before and was horrible at it! LOL!

OK so here goes again. I have been reading a Suze Orman book and I feel guilty about all the money I waste.

I am going to make this realistic for me for my first month and go for 10 no spend days.

As for budget I am just going to start by tracking everything I spend because right now I have no idea what I go through. (Shudder.)

I have found it takes about three months to calibrate your budget once you start tracking your spending. Even now I have some months that are horrible! (Like last month....Thank God for the emergency fund! :headache:)

Today was HORRIBLE! I had to go to the MVA to renew my tags and because my ex-husbands name was still on the title and he had an insurance violation on another car ... his insurance violation had to be taken care of before I could get my tags! I did not realize until I multi-quoted that you were the same poster!

That is the other thing I have noticed...whenever I decide to really buckle down and focus on controlling spending, all sorts of crazy things pop up! Murphy's Law. :headache:

I would also be LIVID! :furious: Is there any legal recourse you have with this, including the child support non-payment issue?

One thing you could do for this month, since it's starting off so rough, would be to track each week independently of each other, and compare them at the end of the month and total it up. At least you can get a mental fresh start each Sunday. I know week to week would not work for me every month, but if my month started like that I would sure do it for that month! I would try to beat the total from the prior week.

8/1 - Sunday Paper $2, Walgreens $3.79
8/2 - Post office 1.77, Thrift store $2, Teacher store $23.32

Goal 15 no buys
Groceries $3.79/$440

Goals- 10 no buys
$350 for groceries (only spent 153 last month so my fridge and freezer are BARE!)
$200 for household
$100 for eating out
and just for this month I am gonna give myself $400 for DD school clothes, etc.

8/1- Spent $.61 at CVS and $3.99 for a half gallon of milk for my DS (he drinks soy and CVS was closest but unfortunately the most expensive).
8/2- $0 :goodvibes

So...
$3.99/350 Groceries
$0.61/ 200 Household
$0/100 Eating out
$0/400 School Clothes
