~Aug 2013~ Sew what~We've gotta find a way back-Part II- TR link posted - 8/31

Well, you have to admit that Cap'n Hook is a pretty scary looking guy! My younger ds, Andrew was terrified of Santa Claus and didn't ever want to have anything to do with him. I think I have one picture of him when he was either 1 or 2 sitting on his lap getting ready to burst out in tears. Never did that again. Maybe it was the stories we told about Santa bringing him (he was born on Christmas) and he thought Santa would take him back - lol

Hahaha....

We rented a locker just last week at Blizzard Beach. It is a daily rental so as long as you don't turn in the key when you leave for your afternoon break it will be yours. We were also told that if you keep your receipt after you turn in your key you can get a rental again for the same day anywhere in WDW without paying the $5.

This is good to know, I hadn't thought of keeping my receipt and reclaiming my locker upon return. :scratchin

Just found out that Kat is back at Walter Reed for the heart procedure. This is a good thing, but please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks.

She is always in my thoughs and prayers. Please continue to keep us updated.

I saw the pictures of Alli's bag on FB and they were amazing. The pictures here are so much more telling: the different fabrics, the modeling and the happy model herself!

Thank you Ruth... It was such a fun bag to make.

Up is one of DH & my teary movies. Aside from the meeting in childhood & kind of reverse the personalities, we have gone through a lot of the same things they did in their lives. I showed DH the pictures and I think his response was something along the lines of "WOW. She's got an amazing talent."

Oh Ruth - I understand... The beginning of that movie makes me cry, not so much anymore, but I know it makes Alli cry every single time. It addresses something so very serious and emotional. :lovestruc

We have never used a locker and I don't think we will. As long as we have belts and shoulders, that is.

Yah - I would ordinarily never use a locker either, but I just don't feel like lugging a backpack full of clothes around MK all day. LOL

I am completely in sinc with your planning. It just hit me, that it was July and we have just over two months before we go. I need to get cracking with just planning clothing! and budgeting!

Prayers as always to those who need them - even if they may not realize it.

Yes - you are right behind me, it really snuck up on me, and I've been watching my countdown like a hawk.

D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS BAG IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

oh my. I just cannot handle how outrageously amazing your work is!!!

hope all is well with you.

STEPHANIE!!!!!!! Where have you been???? I have missed you! I am well - I hope you are too. Are you still in trip planning mode? I've been watching for updates on your pTR. :scratchin

Wow, just wow.

I remember thinking once Jonah was here I would have all this free time to pick up sewing again. I honestly thought newborns just slept all day and woke up every once in awhile to eat for a few minutes. Your bags are very inspiring though.

Thanks Ashley... Yah - babies are much more work than you'd think they are. But they are so adorable that makes up for it. :lovestruc I hope Jonah is doing well...

Yes yes yes....you are more than welcome to hang with us at the Poly. I thought about renting a cabana, but they are expensive! Plus, you will want to see the room and hang out in the AC for a bit, then walk around and soak up the wonderful Poly atmosphere. Maybe get a Dole Whip at Captain Cooks. And....now that they are changing the refillable mug rules...you can bring your mugs and have free drinks too.

Yes!!! I am so happy about this!!! Mostly, I just want the girls out of the sun for a few hours. Not sure if the mugs will be implimented at all the resorts before we get there? When I read the info about it - it sounded to me that they were starting with the values first then progressing up to the deluxes. :confused3

Looks like (from AllEars) that the locker rentals are all day. So as long as you don't turn your key in until the end of the day, you will have that same locker. Afterall...how will they know it is empty? But if it works out, you can drop your stuff off at the Poly that morning and it can live in our room for the day. Whatever works.

I am thinking I will probably do a locker... I've done a bit of research, and that seems to be the easiest. Just don't let me leave MK after the dessert party with out our bag.

FWIW I wouldn't hold the key, if you lose it you will have a problem Just keep the receipt like someone else said and get another locker when you come back to MK there are a ton of lockers there so you'll get another one when you get back no problem

Yes, this is an excellent idea! Thanks Ruthie!

quick response...

Hey, those villians can be very scary. Of course my sweet little girl LOVED them. :confused3 When she was about 3 she told Hook he was a "codfish". He cried & Smee had to console him. DD went up and gave him a hug, which made him happy.

D~ hope to "bump into you" on the day you are struggling with.

IamQueen - Happy Kat is going forward. She will remain in my prayers.

LOL... I hope to bump into you that day too!!! That is a crazy day for us!!

According to Robo, this is what I was able to dig up on the lockers...

The lockers at MK were moved from below the train station over to where they used to rent the strollers.
(They swapped the lockers and the stroller rental.)

Lockers at #8 on the MK map below.

MK-Gates-RopeDrop_040912b.jpg

At DHS, the locker RENTAL location (where you pay and get the locker keys) is, in fact in the central tower (with Mickey on top.)

The lockers, themselves are inside the building to the right of Oscar's Service Station (Oscar's is the stroller rental l
ocation at DHS.)

DHS-Gate-TSM-Sat_092609.jpg

I am very glad I found this info, so it looks to me like I will be able to rent a locker BEFORE rope drop? Because the lockers are in the holding area for the Welcome Show? Does anyone know this for sure? I am hoping to get in there and rent a locker before MK opens, then I can ditch that backpack right away, and grab it on our way to the Poly.

However, this is what worries me most:

IMG_4320.jpg
IMG_4321.jpg

We like to enter on the left side of the train station... This is a photo of the holding area before MK actually opens... Am I going to be able to get through that sea of people and back to the girls? Or is it really not like this every single day - and it was just this crowded due to spring break?

**********************************************************

OK - so...

I got a lot done yesterday! I was able to cut out, piece and stitch my applique for my custom order this week.

Then after dinner, I went back up to my sewing room, and I worked on one of my trip bags... I wanted to get it quilted, but then I cut out the last of my quilt batting the wrong size. :scared: I'd forgotten that I am making my bag 1" wider than I normally do. Sigh... So, I need to get more quilt batting when I go to town today. Rather than let that deter me, I quilted my interior pocket and started assembly of the interior of my bag. :thumbsup2 Can't afford to waste any time - it's crunch time! And V's bag is going to take me 2 full weeks - minimum! :faint:

I really didin't do anything other than work yesterday.

Today I work at Target - I think. LOL I wish they would let me call to get my schedule, but it's something they discourage. And I can't take the time to make a special trip into town just for that.

Alrighty - here's your vintage photo... I love this one! :lovestruc

Have a wonderful day everyone... Prayers go out to everyone in need.

D~

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited about these!!!!!!!!!! I just LOVE how they turned out!

I ordered these several months ago, and Jen is just a sweetie - she has been working crazy to get our stuff done... I am a little embarassed to say that I still have MORE coming... LOL

Here's V's Goofy Ears - they are just PERFECT!

IMG_0365.jpg

And then my Donald Ears - I didn't like the ones available from Disney right now - and these are sooooo much better anyways!

IMG_0366.jpg

And then Alli wanted an OTT (over the top) Up themed headband to go with her Up theme... She was just going to do an understated one, but then Alli saw V's MI one, and decided that's what she wanted. I was THRILLED!!! She loves this so much and cannot wait to wear it!

IMG_0367.jpg

IMG_0369.jpg

I still have 3 more headbands coming for myself and 2 sets of shoe bling!!! I cannot WAIT!!! :cheer2:

D~

OMG! They are just too cute.. I have to go over there when i am ready to Go!!! def need some of them!!!

This was our VERY FIRST character photo EVER... And believe it or not - it was Alli who was afraid of the characters... She refused to get anywhere near them.

Have a wonderful day everyone... Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in need.

D~
I can see why Alli was afraid, not your average first character experience. I was so worried about my kids being afraid of the characters on their first visit. We planned the character dinner at 1900 for our arrival day so Casey (and Curtis) got to meet Cinderella and Prince Charming. This was before the Steps were there so they also got to meet Perla and Suzy.
PS - didn't see any water bottles in that picture either.

Just found out that Kat is back at Walter Reed for the heart procedure. This is a good thing, but please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks.
Prayers continue for Kat.

:flower3: What a great photo. Your girls and your second favorite guy. I do wish you could find the characters in their traditional clothes these days.

I have never rented a locker or been there in August so I'm not sure about the crowds. Honestly, we never seem to be able to make it rope drop at MK. I think we have only seen the show twice, we usually get there right as the show is ending. I do hope you can stow your stuff before they drop the rope and I think the receipt tip is a great tip. Bringing a backpack is a good idea because I'm sure you will wan to change and bring your mugs just in case. It seems the policy is changing everyday. They will probably have the power-ade a the drink station at the Poly.

These headbands are amazing. The detail is over the top. These are so much nicer then anything you see in the parks. Your pictures do them justice. Can't wait to see the rest of your stuff.

I'm a long time lurker on your trip report. Allie's bag is beautiful. You bags are all amazing. I've made bags for several people at work but no where near that detailed. I quilt befor cutting out the pieces, though. We have a few other things in common, too. One being I also work in Electronics but at Walmart. Our schedules are posted on line, which is really nice. After your remark about when you worked , I had to check tomorrows's schedule to see when and where I work. Sometimes I work in photo or wireless phones, too.
I'm also going to to Disney this year, but in September. I only have one daughter and she's grown up and getting married in May.
Liz

I saw a pic on another thread of an UP! neckless that matches that headband. she said she found it on etsy.:beach:

Unfortunately....that is what the opening holding area looks like all the time. It was that crowded even on our 2 and 3 days in February. But you know the crowd moves fast, so you should be alright.
You could always carry the backpack with you for the first must do rides. It won't be that hot first thing. Then go back to the lockers after the first couple hours.
What are you going to have in it? Just your change of clothes for later? You can come over to the Poly and drop it off in the morning...then ride the monorail over with us for the opening show.
Whatever works :)

We don't know exactly what is going on with Kat right now. It seems that the doctors have decided not to do the procedure for 3 -4 months. :confused3 And, we don't know if she is going back to rehab or not. She still definitely needs pt, st and ot, but she may be released to go home to her dad's house. I'll keep you posted when I know something else. Thanks for your good thoughts and prayers.

Edit: Kat's surgery is now scheduled in 4 weeks. Her dad is trying to get her back into the rehab hospital since she still needs intensive rehab. She did stand up, walk and even climbed practice stairs for her physical therapist today. She (the PT) had tears in her eyes. Kat has made tremendous progress in the last 2 weeks!

After bag check inspection go immediately to the right just past Guest Relationships to the stroller rental area rent your locker and get rid of the bag Take DDs with you IMHO there will be crowds, the "slow season" seems to be a thing of the past

There are so many posts here I basically skimmed so not sure if it was mentioned in DHS there are smaller lockers also just OUTSIDE the main entrance of the park near the bus info bldg, prior to security check point ( kind of silly my opinion ) but there it is if needed

ROBO must have a post somewhere with all locker dimensions These are a self serve type of thing just need quarters :thumbsup2

The Up fascinator headband is fabulous. DH loves the whole sequence without dialogue. He trained as an artist (and still has the eye of one) and this is one of his examples of how animation can be used to the greatest effect. No words, all visual and music and can get a whole story across without words.

Whoot for the countdown!! And good luck getting everything good to go.

About your schedule at Target; is there a way they could email, or have it posted on an employee page?

What fun headbands! I love them!! I'd have to pick some up but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) for me Sarah is more of a bow girl. She complains about headbands saying they hurt behind her ears.

Loving the old pictures. It's fun to see the girls looking so little!

I love the headbands.

I am excited to see your next bag :)

I actually did a little sewing yesterday for my DH (I fixed his pants) and I embroidered names on towels for my nephew. today I want to work on something for our trip :)

Yes you do - she is so awesome!

I know - I agree. Kind of sad that they did away with them.

I will try... The rough part is that this is our first full day there - so Maybe I will pack this bag before we even leave the house, that way it will be ready to go the next morning and I won't have to worry about it. Now... To find a bag. LOL

These headbands are amazing. The detail is over the top. These are so much nicer then anything you see in the parks. Your pictures do them justice. Can't wait to see the rest of your stuff.

I love them too! They are so much fun! And the best part is that I was able to send her a photo of the fabrics I was using - and she was able to coordinate them with my bags. How awesome is that?

Welcome!!! It's nice to meet you! :lovestruc

Hahaha... Yah - "technically" I am a photo lab team member, but now that all of our labs are "dry labs" - everything is mostly automatic, so we spend the majority of our shift helping out in electronics or doing odd jobs around the store. :crazy2:

I'm also going to to Disney this year, but in September. I only have one daughter and she's grown up and getting married in May.

Yay for a trip in September... Is this a solo trip? Or are you going with the family? Congratulations to her on her engagement!

Thanks for stopping by - it was nice to hear what we all have in common. :lovestruc

Oh really??? Do tell - I would love the link. :lovestruc

I plan to have a change of clothes in it for each of us, a pair of shoes for each of us, and maybe our mugs?

Are you in MK all day that day?

Maybe we will just have to go right instead of left for once? LOL All we do is go straight up to the train station anyways, and wait for them to clear the train (which takes forever) - but then we ride the train back to Frontierland to begin our day on the mountains.

Thanks Ruthie... I think I will just do that at MK... As hard as it is for me to go "right" instead of "left" - I will just have to do it.

I wish... I talked to a couple of friends yesterday, they said they would check my schedule for me if necessary. It's very frustrating, but I am glad they are willing toh elp me out.

What fun headbands! I love them!! I'd have to pick some up but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) for me Sarah is more of a bow girl. She complains about headbands saying they hurt behind her ears.

Loving the old pictures. It's fun to see the girls looking so little!

I was very surprised about these headbands, I don't know where she gets them, but the girls always have the same problem - and these don't hurt, they are very nice.

I love the headbands.

I am excited to see your next bag

I actually did a little sewing yesterday for my DH (I fixed his pants) and I embroidered names on towels for my nephew. today I want to work on something for our trip

Yay!!! Glad you were able to get some sewing done! I hope you get lots done for your trip! :lovestruc

**********************************************************

So, even though I went into work yesterday (and I wasn't on the schedule until today), I was able to get home at a decent time and work in my sewing room most of the day.

I made a huge dent in my custom order bag.

Then at about 3pm I switched over to my park bag... And I made huge progress on that. Since I didn't have any quilt batting until yesterday morning, I was working on other parts of my bag that I could do with out it. So, my interior is completely finished... I even learned a new zipper insertion technique, that I like better than the one I used in the past... This is not for my regular zippers - this is for the zippers that I put in the lining of my bags (upon request only). I am super happy with how the interior turned out! Then, after dinner, I finished quilting the remainder of my bag and I also made my strap. So, all I have left to do on that is the applique and final assembly.

Oh, and after dinner, I cut out a different wallet... Some of you may have seen the wallet that Nowellsl posted on the Disboutiquers thread a few days ago? I just loved it - and thought it would be perfect for our upcoming trip... So, I cut that out and got everything ready for it. I have not decided if I am going to add an applique to it or not? I probably will - but I don't know what it will be?

It was kind of a long day for me yesterday... To top it off - I am starting to come down with a summer cold... Sigh... Sneezing, coughing, headache... I'd rather get sick now and get it over with, than to have this going on at Disney. So... BRING IT ON! :crazy2:

So... Today is really the day I work at Target... That's all I will say about that.

Disney Fridges: Yikes!!! I don't know what to do about this... I am soooo worried. I was really depending on having a fridge to keep Alli's drinks cool. I have no idea how I am going to keep her cool in the first place, then to have this on top of it, I am really scared for her. You all know I have been fretting over this for months, and worried about her being so prone to overheating... I just really feel like this is icing on the cake. Any insight here would be appreciated.

**********************************************************

Today's picture... Alli lost her fear of the Villians... LOL And seriously - Photobucket is not rotating my pictures... Grrrr....

IMG18-2.jpg

I hope you all have an awesome day and prayers go out to everyone!

Really didn't have a link she just said she found it on etsy. But I looked on etsy didn't find the neckless but under handmade Disney I found a pin that also matched it...:)

I thought all Disney rooms had fridges. We had one at FQ last year. It wasn't super cold but it did keep drinks cool. My daughter had a mini fridge at Pop in May. She said it was cute.
Techically I'm wireless but there aren't a lot of full time hours right now, so I get to work in electronics and photo more. Our photo lab is a dry lab but it has problems so someone has to be there. It's also concidered a service area and someone has to be around there to help the customers.
I make alot of cross body type bags but I have done others. Recdently I made my niece, who's like a second daughter and my daughter tote bags. I'm making my niece curtains for her son's room and a wristlet for her.
I'm going to Disney with my daughter. It'll probably be our last mother-daughter trip for a while. Next September we're supposed to go with her boyfriend's family which should be interesting. He wants to have agrand gathering.

Yes, all the rooms had electric coolers (they weren't REALLY refrigerators...but they kept stuff cool). Unfortunately, they had an issue over the weekend. Rumor has it one caused a fire in the Grand Californian in DL. In an effort to prevent it from happening again, Disney has ordered all taken out of the rooms. Disney is scrambling right now to find replacements. They are officially saying 4 months or longer. As people are checking out they are removing them, to be replaced once they get some.

Hopefully they will get it worked out soon....

I know you are really worried about Alli keeping cool and I know someone mentioned about the Frogg Togg towel and I just want to say it was AWESOME! We used it for our trip last week and it was great! I think that will really help her! Also another thing I got for each of us was those squeezable water bottles. I bought them at the Dollar store and they were great and so much easier to carry.

I love the headbands and Alli's bag.

You can always put her drinks in the ice bucket or plug up the sink and put lots of ice in there to keep her drinks cool. Unfortunately, there is no timetable for the fridges to be replaced. They are being taken out of all resorts except for the DVC's, Ft. Wildnerness and I think the value suites.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone. I guess I am going to request a room with a fridge and hope for the best. Excellent idea kathy about plugging up a sink with ice... We could always do that when we go to bed and it should be ok. :)
