~Aug 2013~ Sew what~We've gotta find a way back-Part II- TR link posted - 8/31

I am trying desperately to stay away from artificial sweeteners too and it just ticks me off no end that all those individual water flavor things have them in it.

Not that water bothers me; at home I drink 20oz glasses with just a shot of lime.

Seriously: if you're looking for a natural re-hydrater, try coconut milk/water. Perks of working at a science center, you learn all sorts of fun stuff, like coconut water works as well (or better than) sports drinks. I'm not sure of the availability/cost though.

Good luck with your busy week.

We love the Chilly pads (Frogg Togg). Mr D and I got a lot of use out of ours last week. I also made the little neck things filled with the beads...I really liked them better. With the chilly pads, your whole shirt could get wet (not the most attractive look) but with the neck things only your neck gets wet.

With the chilly pads, they do stay wet/cool much longer than the neck thingys (love all my technical talk?) but the neck thingys take a full week to completely dry out! So if I were flying I would toss them after you were through with the park.

I throw the chilly pads in the wash with everything else, and they come out fine. I do wash them half way through the week to keep them fresh...and never leave them to dry unless they are hung out. At night i just pulled the line in the shower and hung them over it to dry on their own. (I always carry a couple of clothes pins on vacation...don't you?)

Mr D was in a wheel chair this trip, so he used the chilly pad as a hat...kept his head cool and he thought the rest of him was as well.

Don't forget...any place that sells fountain drinks will give you cups of free, filtered ice and water...We took advantage of that numerous times...

D-I'm sure those packets have artificial sweetener. They use use that to keep them so small.

I find what works best for me in the heat at WDW us to be mindful that I can't let myself get over heated. I have to plan an AC ride, movie, show between any outdoor stuff. This is pretty easy to do except at AK where there just aren't as many AC options. You would think AK would be the coolest park with all the shade but I too find it the hottest. Maybe it is the most humid or maybe it is just the lack of AC.

Emma had soccer try outs for next fall today in the 90+ degree heat. I told DH to have her try the Frogg Togg. I picked her up. She had it in her bag. She put it on walking to the car but typical kid she wouldn't just leave it on. She kept moving it every few seconds. She can be sensitive but she never complained about the feel. I actually have it on right now but hard to day how well it's working as I sit in the AC.

Hope you had a productive sewing day!

I like your updated schedule for sewing this week. We are headed to my mom's next week and I think I want to pack my machine (my older Kenmore) but I don't know if I will get to sew much. There are a few things I want to make...

Where is that photo of Josh and the girls taken?

Yeah for getting so much of your trip paid off.

I have just a minute or so to say how much I love your latest bag. :thumbsup2 What a neat idea and so unique! I'm still enjoying my daughter and her girls, so no time to really comment on everything. Just trying not to get too far behind. Glad you're getting a lot of headway on Allie's bag and can't wait to see it. Does she know what it's going to look like? Or is it a surprise?

After Sunday things will get back to normal (sadly) but then Dan's cousins from California are coming for a week on July 6th, so I'll be back to abnormal.:rotfl:

Take care and happy sewing!

I think most of the sitdown places have the minute maid light lemonade if you were concerned about the sugar in soda? Last trip I brought lots of the drink sticks that I got at the dollar tree and a few of the squeeze MIO type ones and just ordered water even though a drink was included with my dining plan when I didn't feel like the light lemonade.

Thanks for the info - but what I am actually concerned about is my oldest dd - she tends to dehydrate quickly because she had a suspected case of heat exhaustion on our last trip. So, I am just really leary of that happening again.

So, I am having issues coming up with ways to hydrate her and stay ahead of the game. Personally, I avoid all of the add in package things (Crystal Light, Lipton and Mio) because they all contain sugar suppliments that are very bad for you (aspartame and sucrolose) - I would must rather have regular ol' sugar, but there is nothing available in an add in package like that, that doesn't contain those chemicals. I guess, if we had to use them for just this trip - maybe it wouldn't be so bad? But I would prefer not to if we can come up with some other alternative. :thumbsup2

Congrats on making a huge payment on your trip that always feels good.

Good luck with your shopping this week.

I hope the new schedule works for you.

Yay!!! I am super excited to be soooo close to payoff!

Today is "everything" day... Shopping and Target... It will be crazy!

Sounds to me like you have a brilliant BFF!! I don't really like to shop in the evening either, but sometimes you just have to do things you don't want to, right?!?

I hope you get a lot accomplished this week!

I love my BFF - she sometimes thinks outside the box.

Ick.....I tried the Frogg Togg thing last July. Both Dani and I HATED them. I meant to bring one to MOA to show you and totally forgot. I hated the feeling of them, the smell of them after one use. And they just didn't work for me. Felt cool for a split second, then just felt wet and heavy. Honestly the little clip fan I gave you worked the best. I just put it under my shirt and blew it on my belly and instantly felt cooler. And that little thing of sunscreen I gave you....that feeels sooooo cold when you spray it. I have 27 bottles that size. At least one each day for each of us. You have to re-apply sunscreen so many times because you just sweat it off....might as well get a cool blast while doing it.

But I really really think you will be fine. Everywhere is air conditioned....Dani and I didn't have any problems last year and we hit the ground running and didn't stop until close. This time we will take it easier because of Bradey, but I am not worried at all after experiencing it in July. The worst time for me was the Dessert Party. Yes, it is at night, but it is a long time out of AC. I remember posing for the PP pics and feeling the sweat run down my back and down my leg. Also AK is brutal in the heat. I know it's your favorite park and all, but there really is a lot of walking. Just stop often for ice water...even if you do have Powerade. Get fresh ice water at the QS places too!

Now I am all nervous about the Frogg Toggs... I hope they work OK? I might try to look for that sunscreen in a bigger bottle - I packed everything that you gave me into our Disney box (which is again, over flowing in our room...) - so I need to go through it again. The pile is insanely high, and I haven't even added our clothes to it yet. :rolleyes1

I am trying desperately to stay away from artificial sweeteners too and it just ticks me off no end that all those individual water flavor things have them in it.

Yes! I sooo agree... There are a few things in life that annoy me to no end. This is one of them... The others are (since I know you want to hear)... Swimsuits with out real bra support, teen girls stores that only go up to size 9, and the fact that I can't get my girls a new cell phone unless I buy them a smart phone... Hellooooo to all the people out there who manufacture cell phones - teens need touch screen phones with out web capabilities... Thank you very much. Phew... OK I am done - now I am all riled up about my latest pet peeves. LOL

Not that water bothers me; at home I drink 20oz glasses with just a shot of lime.

Hehehehe... Pass the LEMONS please!

Ok - this might just work... Have I told you lately that I love you??? I looked at Walmart online - they do ship one brand. So, I plan to purchase one of these so we can try them before we leave, as long as the girls like them and will drink them, this might just be the perfect viable solution. The only thing I don't like about them, is that they don't come in twist off bottles... I wonder how hard they would be to transfer into one?

This is good to know Nini... I am a little concerned about the "wet shirt" scenerio... :scared: We are certainly going to try them out before we go - because if the girls won't use them, then well... I may have to try to sell them on Ebay or something - so hopefully they work, and don't get us too wet. I wish I had the time to make those chilly pad thingys that you made - I know you posted the link to them, but I am not sure I will have the time... We will see... :thumbsup2

D-I'm sure those packets have artificial sweetener. They use use that to keep them so small.

They do... I have yet to find any that don't. But I have not tried our local health food co-op yet... That is on my list to do before we leave, because I bet they do make something that's all natural.

I find what works best for me in the heat at WDW us to be mindful that I can't let myself get over heated. I have to plan an AC ride, movie, show between any outdoor stuff. LOL - maybe you better test out outside? I would do the exact same thing. Hehehe...

Yeah for getting so much of your trip paid off.

LOL - I tried to tell Josh that I wanted to pack up Mr. Rocket and bring him to the lake... If I had all of my appliques cut out and attached to the fabric, all I would have to do is bring my iron/embroidery thread - and I could applique for a couple hours every day... Then I could really make a dent in our park bags... But noooooo... I am banned from bringing my machines to the lake. :crazy2:

The photo of Josh and the girls was taken at (shhhhh....) Sea World. :thumbsup2

Thanks Lois... So happy you are back with your daughter and DGDs. :thumbsup2 I love your "abnormal" life - I hope that some day, mine is as abnormal as yours is. :thumbsup2

**********************************************************

Real quick....

Super busy day today...

I have to head to town early to drop the girls off at Show Choir camp... Today is the LAST DAY!!!! Whoot!!! Their concert is tomorrow night.

Then, I have to hang out at Target for an hour before my shift starts.

BFF is meeting me at my Target at some point today, so I can use her pharmacy rewards to purchase the last of my GCs to pay off our trip. :whoohoo:

After work, I have to drive the girls home... Change... Put on my flip flops... Then out the door again to meet up with BFF...

I am pretty sure we won't even start shopping until close to 5pm.

I have a list of 3 stores we are attacking... My grocery budget this time around is meager at best... Our hog came in last week (finally) - so most of our grocery budget is gone... Initially, I only had $40 remaining to get us groceries for 4th of July week - but I was able to rework the budget a little, and not pay as much extra on some bills (I know, very bad me...) to give us $100.... But even that barely covers it. To be honest, our grocery budget for the week of 4th of July usually runs us about $300... :crazy2: Which is more than Thanksgiving and Christmas combined. It's a crazy week - and it will be difficult to get everything we need for under $100, but I am going to try. So, my coupon binder is busting at the seams... and I am going with a really specific list that I cannot deviate from. It should be crazy - at best.

I hope to be home by 9pm... I don't drive well after 8pm... I get so tired.

And that's all for today...

Yesterday... I appliqued all day... I finished Alli's applique... It was 12 hours of stitching alone, not including the 4 hours it took me to draw it and cut it back in April/May (can't remember now, but it was a while ago).

Then I got my hair cut... I thought I would be brave and go for a cute pixie cut... Um yah... Stupid me... :rolleyes1 My stylist warned me not to, but I assured her that I have had my hair this short before... Yah - I hate it... It did't help that Alli came home yesterday and told me that it looked like a lesbian cut (not sure what that is?? The cut - not the lesbian. LOL) :confused3 Disclaimer: That is not meant to be offensive to anyone, it's just that I have no desire to look like one - because I am not. Therefore... It's in the process of being "growed out"... Hopefully it will be semi-normal in time for our trip. :rolleyes1 If not.... Rest assured - I will be sewing myself lots of floppy sun hats for our trip... Hmmm... Maybe I can enclose some of those cooling beads into the hat??? popcorn::

OK - better run... Lots to do this morning before I can even walk out the door... One of them being - figuring out if I can make this cut look any better than the stylist did? Which doesn't normally happen for me...

Here's your photo for today... FWIW... I NEVER let my girls sit on the railings when we are waiting in line - it's a huge pet peeve of mine when parents allow this... I feel it's very disrespectful to those around you. So... Josh must have taken this photo and I am not sure where I was? :confused3

Have a marvelous day everyone... Prayers to all!

Another recent custom order... This bag was really fun to make - the person who ordered it has become a very good friend of mine, I wanted to give her something that really encompassed her whole family - because every time she looked at her bag, I wanted her to see them and their memories. The theme of this bag is "Wishes" - but I expanded on it a little... What better way to do that, than with her own Magic, Memories and Me castle? In this applique, you will see memories of their entire family and all of their favorite characters. Can you figure all of them out?

Also - I had some major help with this bag... Mo really helped me get these towers figured out and placed just right - If I was to show you the initial photos of this bag, rest assured you all would have told me to ditch it and come up with another theme... But Mo really helped me get it to the awesomeness that it turned out to be... So, Mo gets all the credit for this bag! :thumbsup2

Speechless!

No I don't!!! It was YOUR IDEA ALL THE WAY!!!:thumbsup2
I just helped with a few changes!!! :cloud9:

I have to say i was really excited to be able to help... This was/is an AWESOME bag!!!

I love Connie's bag! Such a great idea to incorporate her whole family in the design. And since I saw all of the answers as to what each tower represents on her PTR, I won't spoil it here for everyone else!

Good luck shopping today. OMG on the 12 hours of stitching. Plus the cutting time. I am dizzy just thinking about it.

I am not happy this morning because my spotty internet connection is only showing one of the pictures you posted and it is the back of he bag. What a tease. So no picture of the girls and no bag pictures. This bag sounds EPIC so I must get on my laptop to check it out.

I know you will have fun at the lake so you will not miss your machine. Plus it will give you time to "dream" up some new bags. Just leave a notebook by the bed so you can record your inspiration. :)

Once again, I am speechless!

Tonight is the night I have to start tackling the "old lady" dresses. I think I'm going to have to undo both side seams and put in a gusset so they are wider at the bottom. The ladies (and men!) wearing them need to do a dance routine and it just won't work with the dresses the way they are. Then I need to add lace to the bottoms and make belts. Also 13 pairs of bloomers! Anyone want to come help????

Question - does the powdered gatorade = that comes in the large cans - have sugar or aspartame? If it contains sugar, you might be able to use that - scoop out enough for one drink and put it in a snack size ziplock baggie. Then you can add it to your drink rather than going with the soda.

I truly :lovestruc my bag! I waited a long time to be able to order one, then I waited a long time on the wait list to get it....it was worth every bit of wait time! pixiedust: It is prominently displayed in my dining room right now so that I can admire it each time I walk through the house. :rotfl:

Can't wait to use it!!!! ::yes::

well I did a little research for you and looked up the ingredients for the orange powder gaterade and it doesn't look promising.:
Sucrose, Dextrose, Citric Acid, Salt, Sodium Citrate, Natural Orange Flavor With Other Natural Flavors, Monopotassium Phosphate, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oils, Yellow 6.

I also looked up the ingredients in the premade liquid : Water, Sucrose Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup (Glucose-Fructose Syrup), Citric Acid, Natural Flavors, Salt, Sodium Citrate, Monopotassium Phosphate, Glycerol Ester Of Wood Rosin, Blue 1

I guess really if you wanted to stay away from artifical then it would be strictly water (with lemons and sugar to create your own lemonade).

and just make sure everytime you say get on a ride or get off a ride or just every hour make sure she is drinking something which might mean more water bottle pics LOL (I love those!) best of luck..

Now I am all nervous about the Frogg Toggs... I hope they work OK?

Don't be nervous....as you can see, lots of people like them. Maybe try them this summer when you go to ValleyFair or something. Or at the lake?? Then you will know before you go. I bought one of the "cool dana's" from Walmart for Bradey to wear. I am not worried about me at all...I know how to listen to my body, but he doesn't. So I am going to be watching him like a hawk!

I might try to look for that sunscreen in a bigger bottle

It is easy to find that stuff in a big bottle....less easy to find it in the convenient travel size. The big bottle is a PIA to carry around! I bought out my RiteAid as well as two other RiteAids in surrounding towns once I found the small size. I can get them on Amazon too....but I think 27 bottles is enough :thumbsup2

Then I got my hair cut... I thought I would be brave and go for a cute pixie cut...

If not.... Rest assured - I will be sewing myself lots of floppy sun hats for our trip...

:rotfl2: Seriously :rotfl2: I wanna see a picture! Mo and I showed you our salon pics....popcorn::

D~ this article made me think of you and your "vintage" Disney photos lately...

http://www.*********.com/fanny-packs-63646/

:rolleyes1

OMGoodness!! Apparently, the DIS has something against a certain Disney blogger....it is treating the web site address like a swear word! Try adding this in place of the astericks above...chip and co...only no spaces, cause when I put it in minus the spaces it bleeps it out too...silly disboards.

Just an FYI....I read over on the Poly board that they are no longer taking your picture outside of O'Hana with the leis. They are now having Stitch go around inside table to table like a character meal. You get your picture with him and that is your souvenier pic. Lot's of people are complaining about it over on the Poly thread. They say it takes him FOREVER to make it around to everyone and you are almost always done eating and have to wait for him. It would be better if they had him outside at the entrance like Donald at Tusker.

Anyhoo...thought you might want to know that.

That sounds like fun! - I started sewing for the Theater Too. I tend to think of hemming as something done with tape the night of the dress rehearsal.:rotfl:

Aww - Love you too D~. You're welcome about the coconut water. Just make sure that nobody is allergic. No itchy twitchy line waits.

Sucrose is technically just sugar: It's been refined, but it's from a natural source. Like Fructose, just not from fruit. -Science center, remember ;)

I don't post very often but I do follow along when I can. I wanted to chime in about the drink mixes. I have a hard time drinking plain water so I usually use the drink mixes, I hate the artificial sweeteners too but I'd rather have that over plain water. I have found a few 100% natural mixes but they only have a few flavors. One is True Lime black cherry limeade. The other is True Lemon in regular lemonade and raspberry lemonade. They are pretty good, I just wish they had more flavors, I get bored easy of the same flavors.

Oh and I love the fireworks bag and how personal it is!
