Aug 03 2008 Magic (West Coast)

We'll be celebrating my cousin's little girl's 11th birthday on the 8th, and the cruise is the same month as my grandmother's 87th birthday, as well as my niece and nephew's birthdays.

I'm most looking forward to seeing 35 family members safely on the ship and able to enjoy themselves after all this planning! I think I will so relieved when I see them all there! I'm really looking forward to sharing the experience with so many first-timers. And I am looking forward finally to trying Palo brunch. I've never been able to get it before, even on our 15-night repo! Some of you posted about getting brunch reservations a while ago, and I think it was the same day that mine were released because we got the private room! Woo hoo! That should be so nice!

Oddest thing to pack? Not the item itself, but the quantity: 15 wipe-off message boards from the dollar section at Target! One for each stateroom!

Hello everyone who is participating in the FE Exchange. Here is the list with room numbers. I grouped the room numbers by deck to make it easier for delivery. (Note: DisneyMom92 has two rooms with son & daughter in different rooms.)
Can everyone please check your info to make sure I got it right?:flower3:

Wow! That is a big group...sounds like fun. Wipe off boards are a great idea for a big group. Are most of your staterooms in the same area? Where is your family from?

DCL allows magnets on doors. I believe no tape.

What is the name of your magazine?

I too cannot wait to relax. I second your son's excitement.

Hi oh good I have magnet tape. I have to design a sign - it will be our 23rd aaniversary on 8/8/08. So I'll put that on the door.

We do HardBall Magazine which is the membership magazine for the Men's Senior Baseball League (not available on newsstands but only at www.hardball.net) - it's for amateur baseball players, for men over 18 (most of our members are well over 18, there are even 60+ divisions).

I am looking forward to celebrating our anniversary with a dinner at Palo - I wasn't able to reserve 8/8 so we are dining there on 8/9 instead, at 7 pm.

We did drive up to San Pedro to see the Magic off. The drive took a lot longer than I though. Almost 2 hours! So that's good to know. We just barely made it before the ship pulled away. Heard the horn, and the party music and announcements, saw the streamers - it was exciting to think we'll be on the ship in two weeks.

Hi, guys!
I can't believe how close the cruise is now. My husband is home in bed w/an extremely bad back, so that is kinda putting a huge damper on my excitement. Maybe some of your enthusiasm in this thread will start to rub off on me!

You can tentatively count me in for the cruise meet. I may not have my husband or best friend with me (not sure that she'd want to participate), but I'll try to stop by with my kids for a few if I can. All depends on how slow my husband is moving with his back and if I'll be able to leave him, etc.

If I don't get to the meet, hopefully you'll recognize me from this picture below. Be sure to say hi, okay?! I love meeting new people. :)

How could I forget ~ I am especially looking forward to our dolphin swim in PV! Can't think of anything odd that I'm planning to pack. I suppose they would be odd to non-DISers, but don't forget to bring zip ties so the fish extenders don't swim away! Are we allowed to bring scissors or do we have to ask our stateroom attendant to cut them off? My FE gift may be too big for some of the FEs, so I may need to zip tie them so they don't wander.

First thing on board: I think we'll check out the Mickey pool. We have late dinner, so we don't have to eat right away. I'd initially wanted Palo brunch, but think now I'd rather have more time to enjoy sea days with the kids. We have dinner at Palo on Friday.

Definitely not coming from very far as we live in Orange County.

We are from Orange County too. Good idea about zip ties. I did not think about fish extenders swimming away. Thanks for the tip.

I always bring my travel sewing kit that contains mini-scissors, and it has never been a problem. But I do not think that they are strong enough to cut a zip tie.

Whiteboards...that is an interesting item. Great idea for messages. We usually use post-its, but I like that idea. I may have to stop by Traget on the way home from work.

My parents' vow renewl ceremony is August 8th. They are celebrating 40 years of magic.

You are so lucky that you saw her pull away and heard the Magic's horn. I bet your kids were excited. I cannot wait to hear that horn. When I hear it, I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. It is a magical moment.

Thanks for the inform on your magazine. I will google it later.

Susan, I am glad to see that you are still onboard. How is your daughter? I hope both your husband and daughter are doing better? I continue to send prayers and pixie dust your way.

Yes, you said it. The countdown is on. How is your planning going? I look forward to seeing you. I will try to download a photo soon so you will know what I look like.

Who is traveling the farthest distance to board the Magic?:drive:

Using Google Maps, we are 31.1 miles from the pier. We're near the border between Los Angeles and Orange counties. Definitely, not the farthest, but maybe one of the closest.

First Thing: I will have to go to Rockin Bar D to straighten out our Palo reservations. Then off to the buffet.

Rockin Bar D to straighten out Palo ressies (maybe). We have Tues nite at Palo but I don't want to miss the show at AP. Hopefully to add/change a spa treatment.

We go to Parrot Cay for lunch. The first couple of times we went to Topsiders/Beach Blanket. Either it was too hot or there were no places to sit.
So now we always go to Parrot Cay. Sometimes, the CM's will try to direct you to go to Topsiders/BBB, but we tell them 'no thanks' and that we want to go to Parrot Cay.

Kodos to you and your advanced degree efforts. You really deserve this vacation. I admire you! I know it is not easy going to school with a family. My DD is 13, and I was in school half her life, but I finished.

Pirate theme FE gifts are a great idea. I went with the Mexican Riviera theme myself. I am glad my FE gifts are done. :cool1:

In 05, we went on the Las Caletas excursion. We had a wonderful time. The beach wasn't crowded, and the water was beautiful and warm. The food was very good. If you like, you can schedule a massage. I didn't, but the people that did appeared to enjoy themselves.

Wow didn't know that about the message, sounds like a plan.:cloud9:
I'm most looking forward to relaxing with my family. I just hope it's as good as I remember. And, I hope I don't get seasick:sick: Last time I had to visit the onboard doctor to get medicine, this time I'm packing some.

We're coming from NJ so it's a bit of a distance, not as close as FL but for disney I'll take the trip to CA:woohoo:

This is a mommy daughter vacation and I'm really looking forward to our first of many cruises together.

I'm planning on bringing a rolling cooler on-board filled with water bottles, does anyone know if it's prohibited?

Wow, I haven't been able to log in since last Friday & 3 pages of posts to catch up! ha ha LOL. I've been a little sidetracked. We've been searching for a minivan to buy before school starts. We've been looking for a few months & test driven various vehicles before we decided on a Toyota Sienna. Well, then we had to narrow down what amenitites we wanted. Our town only had 2 awd ones and they sold this weekend, but alas, they had cloth seats and we wanted leather. Using cars.com we'd searched for weeks & today a 2006 listing came up in Kansas City fully loaded with everything we wanted and more! And, it ended up being better priced than the ones that we had here locally plus this one only had 13,000 miles! An older couple owned it (probably thought grandkids would ride in it), and never did....heck the dvd system hadn't ever been used & headphones still in original packaging. Anyway, my dh ran up to KC today to buy it! Woohoo! One less thing to worry about in the 1 week we'll have before school starts!

As for this cruise, we haven't started packing yet; will do this weekend. A great friend just loaned me all her pirate costumes (she went on DCL in November)! We are mainly looking forward to some family time and relaxation.

We also live on the Orange County and Los Angeles border in La Habra.
We can hear the fireworks each night from DL.

We have never had lunch at Parrot Cay on embarkation day. The issue is my DD cannot wait to get into the pool so we do Topsiders because of the location to the pools. Maybe, we will try something new.

What a special mother/daughter treat! We are also from SoCal. We live in La Habra. Where do you live?

I also read that your daughter will have a friend join her on this cruise. That's exciting for them. This is the first time that my DD is bring a friend, and they both are jumping out of their skin. My DD cannot wait to share this experience with a first time cruiser.

Belle is my favorite character too.

In regard to the cooler, I believe that you cannot bring a cooler onboard. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. I know there is thread about packing H2O. Check it out.

See you soon.

First of all... good job guys on bumping up this thread! :goodvibes
I am smiling from ear to ear! I canot wait to meet you all.

I went to the doctor's today. I have a virus. FABULOUS! Fever, sore throat, chills, headache, what more could I ask for. The doc said that I will be fine by the cruise. He sent me home with instructions to rest and get plenty of fluids! (throat culture pending for possible meds) REST! Who could rest with a vacation quickly approaching and a party of 80 to prepare for.

Okay, I am taking a half day today to try to recover quickly.
My DD is going to an Angel game this evening so I can sleep until tomorrow morning. Everything looks better in the morning.
