It appears that she did in fact make all of this up. The police have a videotape of her purchasing the items she says the abductor used to hold her captive. They also said her computer was used during the time she was missing. It's such a shame that all these resources were used for a hoax and there are numerous other families suffering with missing loved ones who could use the national media attention. :o

She may be charged with lying to police and anything else they can charge her with.

I will try to get a link when it becomes available.

EDITED TO ADD: She apparently purchased these items Wednesday morning, the same day she was "found".

Just what I thought.....she needed attention for some reason or another.

I can't even imagine what her parents/family are going through.

To think I was crying tears of joy the other day when she was found.

She will probably be charged with some crime. I'm sure the people who spent their time and energy looking for her are very disappointed.

She lied????? What the...

 Now I wonder WHY did she get so much press in the first place. UGH!!!

That is a shame. What a waste of resources. Part of me feels extremely sorry for someone who would go to so much trouble for attention. However, what she did is just WRONG.

I sure hope she gets charged! Too much valuable police time spent. Granted, I am glad that she didn't actually physically hurt anyone else during this time. With someone so screwed up to do this to her family, who knows what she is capable of. I feel for her family and friends. This is just terrible!!!

She must be very screwed up mentally to have done this. I can't even imagine what her family must be feeling like right about now. It must be embarassing for them. :(

I knew something was wrong with the whole story.

Was there a reason WHY she did it??

Sad :(

She obviously has some deep emotional problems, though, to resort to something like this.

Apparently the Dean of Students at UW is not thrilled either.

Statement from Dean of Students Luoluo Hong regarding the Audrey Seiler case
April 2, 1:30 p.m.
We are relieved to have some answers and the beginning of a resolution to what has been a difficult six days for both the campus and Madison communities. We realize that we have some work ahead of us in trying to come to terms with what has happened.
Like many of you who have been following the case closely, we are experiencing a mix of emotions. Our thoughts are with Audrey Seiler, the Seiler family and her friends as they continue to go through this trying time.
For those who are grappling with the many emotions they have experienced throughout this ordeal, we encourage you to talk about them with others.
While we do not condone the behavior attributed to Audrey by the Madison Police Department, we fully understand that people communicate their need for help in many different ways.
We want to take this opportunity to remind all of our students that there are a variety of resources available to them, should they be experiencing any kind of difficulty or feeling overwhelmed. These resources include professional counselors at UW-Madison, staff in the Offices of the Dean of Students, academic advisors, faculty, housefellows in university residence halls, and their own network of friends and family.
Staff in the Offices of the Dean of Students are available by calling (608) 263-5700 to coordinate support and connect students in crisis to resources, both on and off campus.
Members of the UW-Madison community who feel they need counseling can contact University Health Services at (608) 265-5600 or after hours at (608) 265-6565.
We want to thank all of the emergency response personnel, law enforcement, students, members of the Rockford, Minn., and greater Madison communities, local and national media and others who have devoted a tremendous amount of time and energy to helping find Audrey.

The police also made a comment about reinvestigating the first incident to see if there is any credibility to that.... :o

I just can't beleive she mad this all up. It makes me sick. I hope she gets the help she needs.

I had a feeling...

I wonder if this was some kind of elaborate April Fool's prank on her part.

What's really sad is that there the vast majority of real abductions or missing persons cases usually don't seem "interesting" enough for CNN and other major news networks to even make it newsworthy, let alone for the story to be breaking news over several days.
This one was big news and turned out for whatever reason to be a hoax.
I hope she gets the help she needs because she's obviously got some problems.
